As much as loved doom 2016 and doom eternal, the creep factor of doom 3 was incredible. Maybe cus i was 16, but it stuck with me
I actually got a bit disappointed at first when 2016 was announced and wasn’t horror oriented, I liked 3 that much. Obviously after playing it I liked it a lot, but I really liked the idea of doom for being a horror game.
@@k1ler4m the world and lore works just as good as a horror game as it does an action shooter. I would like it honestly if they went back and forth from now on.
Try 7 years old 😅. I would sneak on my dads pc when he had games paused and almost gave me trauma
I can say the same thing for resident evil 4 and 5. 4 was very horror driven and filed with dread whereas part 5 was a run and gun feeling type of game.
Doom 2016 is crap. Its basicly Serious Sam
Nobody born after these times will understand just how revolutionary this moment was in gaming. There were always leaps in quality and still are, but THIS..
Doom 3 was so mind blowing like when the original Doom came out. I do remember how amazed I was with this game, I sat down at my friends gaming pc and played the game start to end for 8 hours at least. He just went to work and when he came back I had nearly beaten the game haha
Like downloading Wolfenstein from the Apogee BBS at 2400bps?
@@casedistorted I remember the Hyper magazine review of Doom 3 back when it came out. "We all knew Doom 3 was going to be good. But we didn't think it was going to be _this_ good." Sure, it may look unimpressive to kids these days, but this was a generational leap at the time.
I tend to agree. Doom 3 pioneered normal mapping and specular which was pretty much a staple of the shiny surfaces of the xbox 360 era. Only issue is half life 2 came out like right after this and many considered it just as technically impressive and a far superior gameplay.
@@alanlee67 well obviously HL2 but I didn't wanna muddy the message just letting D3 take it this time lol
I'll never forget listening to the radio comms after things start going south and all the chaos and screaming and terror. It was an awesome thing to experience for the first time way back in 2004/5.
They're breaking through the waaaaaalls...
I loved the PDA such a good way to tell the story and flesh out the world.
It's so good in VR too. Feels very natural to navigate through which is a testament to how well integrated into the game it was back then. Just a seamless tool
System Shock did something similar with audio logs
Let it be known Carmack said in an interview back in 2005 that doom 3 is what they wanted the original to be the survival horror feeling but do to engine limitations at the time it became the run and gun shooter we love today.
Yeah, if you look at the Doom Bible stuff they had more of an rpg type deal in mind. It would be really interesting to see that original vision get made into a game.
@@darkprinc979
And Doom 3 follows the Doom Bible very closely.
@@darkprinc979 well Doom RPG and Doom 2 RPG exist
So I guess you almost could say Doom 3 is "best" Doom game, just not the best game.
@@kingdomkey2262 It is indeed the most faithful to the dev's original idea. It is the best in the sense of "being faithful to the original idea". But that is the precise reason of why it is the *worse* Doom game.
Because thanks to the technical limitations from the 90s we got the insanely fun OG Doom, instead of this slow, awkward horror shooter (I do like Doom3, but saying it is slow and referring to its horror as "awkward" is just describing how it is)
I don't think the OG Doom would have been as successful if they actually were able to create the gameplay of Doom3 back then.
I played the game when it came out and it was insanely scary. I would complete one level a day at best because I'd be too scared to proceed. When you reach that checkpoint and finish a level it's such a huge relief and getting back out there was too much.
Precisely
That is what made this game so much fun.
As a 3rd grader, this game drove to brink of sanity lol
Totaly agree with you, i had the same experience with Doom 3. I finished the game.
The only game that came close to Doom3's fear level was Dead Space for me. The first one.
Same....
Doom 3 is one of those games that I have massive respect for. Definitely underrated in the Doom franchise. I'm glad they switched things up, even if it polarized the fanbase and we probably won't see anything like this in doom again.
Which makes me sad as the horror is what makes doom for me. It felt like I played with a purpose.
Yeh I'm one of the players that have been alienated.
It’s funny because doom 3 is the only doom game that I legitimately enjoyed playing. All of the other ones were so predictable and repetitive
I wouldn't say that. Eventually, I think we'll get another Doom game like this again one day
Doom 2016 en Eternal are the worst doom I've ever gotten to play and I consider both titels to be a huge disappointment.
Doom 3 has made such an impact on me, it's heartbreaking how we'll never get to see a remake like it.
This is an exciting time. We were there when those things came into existence. The late 90s to the mid 2000's was the birth of a new era of technology. If you grew up with DOS games, this was unlike anything you have ever seen before. It was so wild.
the plasma rifle in doom 3 might be the best sound desing of any weapon i've ever heard. instantly nostalgic and incredibly satisfying to listen.
I agree, reload sound is awesome.
Plasma in doom 2016 was real let down for me.
Yes! One of my favorite FPS guns. Love the feel and sound of it
Couldn't agree more. The best looking and sounding weapon in any first person shooter imo. The way those projectiles illuminated the hallways, the way the weapon itself illuminated a surface when you got really close to it, the reload sound etc etc...10/10 really...
That sound when reloading is soo fun to hear. Kinda miss playing Doom 3
Reload and handling, maybe; I still prefer Quake 4's Hyperblaster. Firing? Hell naw, it sounds weaker than a cartoon alien's pewpew ray gun.
I would love to see a spiritual successor to Doom3 in terms of horror FPS.
Alien Isolation
There is nothing that comes close to the atmosphere/horror of Doom 3. I know it had cheap scares but the ambient sound effects, the creatures and setting itself remains unsurpassed. Doom 2016 didn't even come close to Doom 3s fantastic atmosphere....
Dead space
Oh man what id give for the same with original Quake. The first time I booted up GL Quake with my 12mbVoodoo2.....👌
Loved Quake 2 sure... But Quake is something else.
A few months ago NIN released the soundtrack on nice thick vinyl. It STILL is a wonderfully dark piece that works so well with the aesthetic of the game.
The weird mash of Lovecraftian/Medieval/Hell/sci Fi is something I have never seen since really.
I'm just after buying Doom3 on Switch as I type this. Sure the 3rd time I've bought the game but I am gonna have a blast playing this out of the dock
Alien Isolation is probably what you're looking for.
Also some 'Prodeus' on the side couldn't hurt.
This game still looks amazing today. One of my all time favorites.
It took the industry roughly ten years to beat the lighting Doom 3 had. It was so far ahead of its time.
True! Light and shadow plays nicely, and the sound design, too. It was stellar and still is. Only the low-poly count models reveal the age really. And that it runs smoothly even with older rigs :D
It does!
So many people forget that the original DooM WAS scary. It absolutely integrated horror elements: jumpscares, traps, spooky music with both fast AND slow tracks, ambient growls, monster roars, terrifying locales, flickering lights and monsters lurking in shadows-- the works. In the 90s, a full playthrough of DooM could be a very scary game.
My dad told me once when I was much younger that in E1M8 when the Barons popped out scared the bejesus out of him when he first played it in ‘93. It may be archaic now but those original games were pretty chilling in their own right back in the day
And, lets not forget you played with the keyboard not the mouse.
E1m1 dismantle this argument.
I still think it's interesting that, when it first came out, all of the criticism directed at DOOM3 was how it was *too similar* to the first two games. The monster closets, the "keycards" in the form of PDA clearance to open doors, the pacing. People said it was too much like the old games and didn't do enough to change with the times. Nowadays, the main criticism DOOM3 gets is due to how different it was from the first two games. Or at least how people imagine the first two games were like. The old DOOM games were not as fast paced and arcade-like as people remember. Doom 2016 and the "Brutal DOOM" mod for the original games have reinforced this idea that the old DOOM games were fast paced, non-stop action. And sure, like this video points out, the opening chapters of DOOM3 take things slower, the game overall does build to that more frantic action similar to the older games. In some ways, it feels more like the original DOOM games than it's 2016 counterpart, and Doom Eternal.
Despite loving all the other Doom-games, this is actually my favorite. Perhaps because it always feels real and grounded, much like Half-Life/HL2. Doom 1/2/4 are mostly about learning to most effectively eliminate everything that moves, which is challenging like a sport is. Doom3 is more about soaking in the atmosphere and story.
Doom 3 is still one of my favorite games ever. It had its problems but it’s still a pretty good game.
Same.
agreed my dude
It's not one of my favorites but otherwise it is still a pretty good game. Just have to go into it with the right expectations.
The online co op was awesome. Loved this game and im glad i got the pc version at a thrift store years ago!!
I came to comments to say that.
I was taking C++ and OpenGL as classes in high school when Doom3 was announced. I managed to get a hold of an alpha or pre alpha and brought it into class so we could open it up and tweak it until we got it to run. Those were the days.
That must have been a surreal experience
Mate if you have any advice on pi tye systems and emulation I would appreciate any help you can give... Getting back into gaming and last time I was emulating it was like 2008! Hoping to get a pi system to emulate everything up to Dreamcast and CPS3 boards on MAME... Im really out of the loop and need to catch up.
It was pretty awesome, I remember running maps for the E3 demo.
It’s one of my all-time favorite games. Still play it.
Yup. It's my third-favorite Doom game (behind 2016 and the original). Play it every 2 years or so since 2009 when I got it on PC.
Doom 3 was one of the reasons why I started gaming, even to this day, Doom 3 had it's flaws but brings back nostalgia every time! Coming home after school and play it all afternoon and night to scare myself lol 😆
I would absolutely love a Doom spin off where you play as a regular marine but with Doom 3 style gameplay.
EDIT: To all the people replying saying "So doom 3, you would like doom 3." Yes...that was the point of my comment you dense cabbage. I want more doom 3.
A hell on earth horror fps on doom eternal engine would be awesome
Yooo whats good dude, dig the channel
You literally just described Doom 3
@@hummens44 Yes...yes that's the point you dense cabbage I want more doom 3 LMAO
@@hummens44 Yeah. He said he wanted a new doom spin off game with Doom 3 style of gameplay so I guess he litterally described Doom 3? I want a new doom game with similar gameplay too.
Doom 3! Excellent! 🤘It might be the black sheep, but I still love it.
I played that one, it was phenomenal and so intense & scary. The « baby-flies » were SO horrific
My go to comfort game. Brings back such great memories I wish I could play this one for the first time again.
Same here
Doom 3 over time has become not just my favorite Doom game but my favorite FPS game period. I've played all the Doom games many times & lots of Brutal Doom. But there is just something so unique about Doom 3 on nightmare difficulty especially playing after midnight, all the lights out, & headphones on.
It's maybe not scary per se to me but it's very tense. It's combat that I have come to call "ambush survival". You're always outnumbered, alone in the dark, with unending ambushes coming at you from multiple directions. It's always unfair. It's perfect. Doom 3 on nightmare difficulty is the perfect FPS game to me.
Playing this game in VR on the Quest 2 in the park in a tennis court at 2am was one of the best gaming experiences i’ve ever had.
awesome lol
No shit right? That was the first time I beat the game was on quest. Played it for years but never beat it until a few months ago.
Can you play this on Quest? I have a Quest 2, would love to play this in VR!
Love Doom 3. It's so rad and so innovative for the time
I never managed to finish this game until I reached 20s 😆 It still gives me goosebumps while playing it
Wait what? They really called the bad guy "Dr. Betrüger"? :D That literally means "cheater/swindler" in German. Could have just called him "Mister Evil" at that point. :D
one million demons ;)
I remember being scared when playing this as a kid, but it was so good that I just couldnt stop playing...and I had to play at nigth with no ligths hidden from my parents 🤣
The only single player game, that I played over and over again from start to finish. What a classic.
I really enjoyed doom 3. Going into the horror genre I think was a solid move. The game really did make me fear ever step I took. I also feel like the environments and scare tactics used was a big inspiration for deadspace.
The weapons introduction and how it’s tied to gameplay intensity is true to form of the original
I recommend playing Resurrection of Evil without using the Artifact for anything but the slowmo puzzles in the beginning and the Betruger fight at the end. Makes the combat a lot more exciting!
I love me some doom 3. While it's not the frenetic gameplay of other doom titles, it stands on its own as an amazing horror experience.
Doom 1 & 2 were entertaining shooters with a great concept. Doom 2016 and Eternal took that idea of one man against all of hell to the max. But for me it was Doom 3 that truly brought the frightening aspect of the story. A real masterpiece.
This game and _Dark Corners of the Earth_ both gave me chills as a kid.
Call of Cthulu was awesome, I just bought it on steam actually lol
1h of doom 3 with Kirk, that’s going to be interesting :D
This game was head of his time, crazy to see it’s better than most horror games today.
Same year half life 2 was released and it's graphics 4 years ahead of It's time. Doom 3 graphics close second though.
HL 2 was released shortly after and it's graphics were better, it's game play was better, and it was also better at being a horror game. doom 3 was a glorified tech demo, because Techno wizard JC don't know how to actually make an enjoyable game.
How is a game released just shortly before Resident Evil 4 (an actual horror masterpiece) ahead of its time?
nah, not ahead of its time, System Shock did it in 1994 (and better). Doom 3 is an ok game and an horrible Doom. it sucks at being Doom.
I did not grow up with original doom and only played it much later on my xbox360. Doom3 was the first doom i played thoroughly. And to be honest I have a deeper love for doom3. I remember debating with the oldschoolers that was dissatisfied with doom3. 😄
I think the fundamental viewpoints we held was to different for us to be able to understand each other.
One strange thing that was gone in the BFG edition, was the ability to stack bodies. In original Doom3 the bodies of zombies and z-secs would pile up if they died next to each other. In the Bfg edition the bodies phase through each other which is weird. 🤔
Thanks Kirk, great Retrospective on Doom³. I still play it once a year, it's really one of a kind.
I'm so glad you did the time honored thing which is built all Doom 3 video intros around that menu theme by Tweaker. Absolute badass to the nth degree
There wasn't much music to work with. thanks man!
@@KIRKCOLLECTS ain't that the truth! all ambient beeps, boops and what sounds like someone inhaling HHHHHHHHH in the background for soundwork XD
I used to listen to the song on repeat by repeating the credits over and over
@@UndividedSilver my man!
Chris Vrenna is the man! I recently got the original Quake soundtrack vinyl. At the last minute Id stopped the printing of the booklet but Trent released the file.
Chris has a long history with Doom/Quake.
What made Doom3 so great is that it gave the franchise elements of lovecraftian cosmic horror.
I played this game with headphones in the dark when it launched and it was diabolically great!
1 minute into your video I already came to the conclusion that this has to be the best youtube video I have ever seen in 17 years.
And by 17 years i meant the beginning of youtube (since 2005).
Bro, I just l listened your entire playlist on this and stealth games on an 9hr shift. Thank you so much for posting these!
Thanks so much for this in depth video. I just started playing it again last week and I'm literally hooked on it all over again. And Doom 3 BFG edition literally comes in the mail today. Nice timing to release this video
With nowadays mods this game looks absolutely stunning . One of the best game in history.
VERY very well done review, I love it and brought up a lot of points. Subbed!
This was a great retro, clear, concise and kept my attention the whole way through, plus it helps I love Doom 3. I'll be checking out the rest of your content. Great stuff!
Your title is a play on words that is understood as your analysis evolves. It's very clever. You said it in the title, you said it once, and then "to remember, the horror comes first". This naturally caused me to think that you meant the developers prioritized the horror element over the action, but now coming towards the end of the video I realized your point: the game starts out more like a horror game, then gradually evolves into a more action oriented game akin to its predecessors. The horror comes first. Well done. Subscribed.
I remember playing this when I was a kid. Probably one of the only games I was truly scared almost always throughout
Still an utterly fantastic game!
Sad, that it was so slow-paced. I think that this made most of the fans not happy.
@@pistool1 It wasn't slow paced at all once it got going though.
It's also the aesthetics (ambiance) and the awesome shadow and light rendering doom 3 and games like fear had. Not only good for horror but for all games. I don't know why but these hard shadows look really realistic and complimentary.
The first 2 minutes are really effective. i was completely sold into the video :)
I have no doubt it will end to be a excelent video from beginning to end!
I always preferred the aspect of a average human having to face off against overwhelming paranormal forces beyond understanding the doom universe fits both the power fantasy and survival horror I really hope we get another doom game like this. To me its more badass having survived a hellish engagement then painting the town red. I always prefer the demons to be imposing and power the way doom 3 presented lastly the art of hell in doom 3 has not been surpassed best incarnation of hell to date monster design as well was top notch.
Probably my favorite entry in the series, spent a lot more time in 1 and 2, but 3 was revolutionary for its time and finally brought some sort of story into the doom world
i remember building a computer specifically to play doom 3 when it released. I was a senior in highschool. spent many nights in the dark in my parents basement playing it. still one of the only games that give me good bumps. Love it.
Really amazing video man it's going into my favourites, which I rarely do
Hahaha I can hear Silver and Medium screaming from across the Atlantic
You know us well *tips hat and bows*
lmao, nice one
lol
What makes it so great is we totally called it
As much as people hate this game now, it still holds a special adrenaline fueled memory for me.
At the time the game came out I was 10. Yes I had played doom1&2 and ultimate. But the game my dad was installing to his PC was demonic. It had the coolest install, wallpapers etc. And when he let me try it, I was scared but excited at the same time. I didn't want to stop, but when I did, I didn't want to be in my room alone at night. I still do a yearly playthrough of this game, the same I do with final fantasy X and resident evil 4. This game is an absolute classic and an absolute powerhouse of a game at the time.
This game scared the shit out of me at age 24. Used to only play it in 30 minute bits because that's all I could physically handle, would stop playing and be completely exhausted from the adrenaline rush.
Great video man! Very professional. New sub here from London Canada
Great video as always, KIRK! DOOM 3 is my favorite survival horror FPS. It was interesting seeing your takes on it, always coming from a place of understanding each side of the criticisms. You really deserve more views and subscribers, cuz this is top-notch content!
Some corrections:
* Wolfenstein 3D came out in 1992.
* RAGE came out in 2011.
although many people didn't like doom 3, for me it was a game that marked a lot, especially in the horror part
the thing i like about it i was not trying to be the first 3 games but be it's own thing
it's horror is very boring
@@nicolausteslaus it dose drag on in the first quarter of doom3 but the game gets better after that
@@torquetheprisoner I can name only one moment that stood out to me there. The rest was mostly cliche stuff
Amazing review! I can’t wait to see your future 100k subs 🎉
If you can, definitely give this game a go in VR, it's like reliving that feeling when it first released all over again.
There are lots of quality mods to download for this game as well, most notably Redux, Phobos, Last Man Standing, and Classic Doom 3. Since I especially enjoy mods that are funny, I also recommend Infernal Death Orgy, Duck Nukem, Bubba Lego-Tep, X-Mass, and Damnatio Memoriae (ep. 1 and 2).
I played this with Ultimate Mod.
Dual Pistols, more Zombies...
Doom 3 was so ahead of its time... I remember with awe how gorgeous it looks. And being honest it stands to well to this day. It still looks as gorgeous, the art style fits perfectly with those pitch black shadows
There is something truly beautiful about the words: So unlimited it's on FIRE.
Phenomenal video! You did such a great job
There's something about Doom 3 that gets to me harder than pretty much all other horror titles, except royalty like Silent Hill 1-3 mind you. The atmosphere in the game is insane.
An hour-long video on Halloween? Kirk, my man, this is a TREAT
Nice documentary. Thanks for making this, Doom will always be special.
Excellent video. Very knowledgeable and intuitive. Good stuff.
Always makes me chuckle that they named the bad guy “betruger” which is German for “cheater, deceiver, or betrayer”
Half Life 2 and most importantly F.E.A.R. may have surpassed Doom 3 but it does look timeless, love the graphics to this day.
Half life to me is meh... But Doom 3 and F.E.A.R. 😘👌
I love that the Hell Knight design from this was carried into D16 and Eternal. even the OST from D3 was brought over. the team behind Eternal and 2016 also had love for D3 too.
Love this game, and awesome video! Something so relaxing about a good retrospective, even with horror games lol
Not sure if anyone else has mentioned this, and I don't think you did, but Doom 3 had Creative Labs EAX support on PC that made the game 100x more scary. EAX added a unique sound profile to each room, resulting in punchier and deeper sound. If you want to hear a direct comparison LGR did a great job highlighting the differences in his XP Upgrade video. And if you haven't played through the game with EAX on I highly suggest it.
Agreed. EAX was so revolutionary.
I thought modern day cards didn't support EAX anymore
People compare Doom 3 to Doom to much. This game had the best aspects of Resident Evil 4, Bioshock and Metroid Prime with a demonic cherry on top.
I still play this game to this day and it IS the horror-action vibe that has kept me hooked all these years.
Also have to point out how well this game is holding up technologically. With or without the source ports, the idtech4 engine can really take advantage of todays hardware. When played with the big hi-res texture mods, it can rival games running on the latest engines imo.
I'm in a discord where some very talented programmers are tweaking the idtech4 engine (I just listen while the grown-ups talk) and what would be really great is if Doom3 would attract more modders to make more mission packs and such
great video! loved d3!!! one of the first games supporting normalmapping, what an improvement!!!🤘🤘🤘
The thing that ticks me off is that in console versions of Doom 3, you cannot sprint in hell. How it works in the rest of the game is that you flick on/off by pressing down on the left thumb stick, but in hell there is no on/off - you have to hold it pressed, which is impossible, and I love my controller too much to subject it to that kind of abuse.
I remember playing for the first time at 640x480 having barely 30 fps with low graphics. It was so freaking scary, I usually call for my little sister sit with me while I played it LOL.
Its system requirements were monstrous back in 2004. In fact, none of the available hardware at the time was good enough to play the game on Ultra quality, so it only became possible some months later when newer GPU's came.
Splendid!! Haha, i borrowed my brothers copy on Xbox and i didnt dare to play the game alone...in the middle of a sunny day even. So i managed to convince my father of mother at times to sit next to me to keep me company (i was around 16-ish years old). When i got attacked by zombies and demons i started to scream loudly and they looked at me as if i was crazy 😅
This is a beast of a game to me! I like Doom 3 the most by far. You forgot about the moment where the game let you choose whether to call for help or not. Doom 2016 was very good too.
You got my like and subscription simply for being honest about Doom 3 and all its merits, rather than just be "oh noes it not like ohghee Dum so it no gud". I especially liked the emphasis you put on Doom 3's sound design. It should've won accolades and awards. I could listen to the entire game without combat, it's so good. One part that sticks out sound design terms is the small elevator you have to ride down to replace the coolant matter in the generator. When I first played the game not long after it came out, I rode that lift a number of times just to listen to all the small detailed sounds beautifully brought together. These kinds of details make Doom 3 so great. Also in visual terms like the red eyes that disappear between the cracks at the metro station as well as world building with the woman ghost telling you to follow her and that whole bit about her baby. Still sends chills down my spine.
Theres a lot of nostalgic hate for doom 3 here on YT but I was then and still am now blown away with how good that games was. Graphics, gameplay, story, atmosphere, and just overall fear. That game was spooky as hell!
Funny how cultic sidestepped the flashlight issue with the lighter. It gave you a couple levels with it to make the dark sections feel more claustrophobic, whilst still letting you use one handed weapons. You can use the pistol and lighter together, but if you wanted to take out the shotgun you had to fight that enemy in the dark. But jasozz knew to give you the headlamp before it got tedious. Another great video Kirk! Can't wait for the spooky vibes to pop up a few times in the next few months with Callisto, dead space, and re4make
Exactly, I loved this in Cultic 👌
Flashlight on a gun or suit could have been an upgrade at some point in Doom 3 and it would have solved most of the problems with it.
when i was a kid this game scared the crap out of me i had to watch my dad play it lol. when i was older i tried it and loved it so much and beat it wonderful game. it really did scare me same with the zombie part in return to castle Wolfenstein
That plasma rifle reload sound though 👌 the whine reminds me of an oldschool camera flash, music to my ears 😁
Amazing video. Thank you very much. For me, Doom 3 was an amazing experience. Maybe the best sound design back then. A very immersive experience and and I am happy about the fact that ID software took a different approach on the franchise. I am 39 now. We have seen a lot of games in the past, from the early DOOMs, Wing Commanders, Half-Life etc. I think Doom3 is one of the last classics we have seen. A fantastic game I will remember forever.
I wonder if perhaps it may have been a better idea to have each weapon have a built-in flashlight instead of having a standalone flashlight. Each weapon would have a different kind of flashlight (e.g. the chaingun would have a wider cone of light while the plasma rifle creates ambient light that lets you see clearly but only within a small area around you) and the light could be affected by stuff like gun recoil or remaining ammo in an attempt to keep the balance the original separate flashlight design had.
THAT was the biggest issue I had, you'd have to switch to the weapon which left you in complete darkness until you started shooting, later on someone hacked a flashlight on a weapon...
No.
This game is a masterpiece. The idea of the horror coming first was groundbreaking. And the flashlight separated from the gun was a brilliant idea and reached the purpose of creating anxiety and the fear of wherever you choose the gun or the flashlight.
I really like the way the game builds from "try not to die" to "vengeance is me!" 😁 makes the power feel so earned.
it was damn scary when I played back in the day, always getting me nervous. I also played a bit each day, and the worst (and best) was at night before going to sleep. If did a long run because I wanted to advance in the story I used to have nightmares later. nicely done indeed.
The best Doom 3 review out there. Awesome video!
To say this you'll have to watch them all.
@@satnav1980 ok, then report me for fake news
Doom 3 is criminally underrated.
True, even though it was quite successful when it first came out in 2004. The whol hating things started in more recent times, and I suspect Brutal Doom had much to do with it.
It is the similar/same problem with Diablo 2 and Diablo 3. After years of waiting, hc fans expected to have the same game again but were disappointed to get something totally different whatsover - and with little resemblance to the original. Only HL1 and HL2 is the series that was succesful to create a hit successor.
@@pistool1 Ironically, HL2 is fairly different from HL1 :P
The atmosphere in this game is actually still amazing. The whole mood is just eerie as hell, I just love all the bumps, knocks, and ambient buzzing and computer noises throughout that just add so much.
Excellent video my man.
Great video, highly under rated channel.
Great video! My favourite Doom game is Doom 3. I really loved how it looks and feels. Doom 2016 is also awesome, but different.
I still remember the leak, it looked absolutely amazing I was glued to my chair...
i love this, its a really generous, spot on analysis and agree with the world building, its not a flat 2d horror game, it has layers to it with the story and environments.
