- What is color blindness?
Approximately 1 in 12 men and 1 in 200 women have some degree of color blindness. There are different types of color blindness but the most common is commonly known as red-green color blindness.
Color blindness (also called color vision deficiency by vision scientists), is a condition where a the retinal cone cells respond to light differently than normal. People with color blindness usually can still see colors, but have color confusions or certain pairs of colors which appear so similar they cannot tell them apart. There are extremely rare cases where people are unable to see any colour at all.
What EnChroma glasses do?
EnChroma glasses are an optical assistive device; they are not a cure for color blindness. The underlying cause of most color vision deficiencies is that the red and green-sensitive retinal cone cells have an overlapping response to light. Instead of responding separately to each wavelength of light, their response is highly similar. To compensate for the overlap, the EnChroma lens contains proprietary optical materials that selectively remove particular wavelengths of light exactly where the overlap is occurring.

Purple is a common problem color with color blindness because it contains red and blue - common types of color blindness. So if the person is deficient in either color, purple doesn't look purple. If blue deficient it appears more a muddy red, if red deficient then it appears dull blue.
I always love how they fall in love with the color purple, one guy said it best - "I can see why purple is considered the royal color!" Because they have never seen that color in any variation before.
Yeah, I found it really hear warming too when he followed that up with the comment that he, "ain't gonna cry b/c [he] ain't no bitch." He went from a color blind person to a color blind a**hole. Lovely.

"What kind of colors do you see?"

OMG!
Unfortunately, these glasses do not actually allow these people to see the colors they're blind to. It's just like a phone app photo filter, but makes the colors they can't see more distinguishable. Unfortunately, these glasses are hyped up way beyond what they do in reality.
@@omsmada "hyped way beyond what they do in reality" yeah, tell that to those people who cried just by using them. We know these don't cure color blindness, but it's something for those people. I am colorblind so I can explain. We as colorblind people it doesn't means that we see just black and white. What you call purple is also purple for us but we see it in a different tone. When we confuse colors what happens is that those 2 colors we see them in a very similar tonality so we get to confuse them. In general he knows all the colors but now with the glasses he could distinguish them.

@@XenoDrake Yes it is.
@@XenoDrake Colorblindness is a sex-linked recessive trait, this means that it is carried on the X chromosome and not the Y chromosome. The reason for this is because the X chromosome carries a lot more DNA than the Y so males get a lot of their traits from their mother while their father only supplies the coding to become male and some other traits. So a female with XX can have the colorblindness trait on one X and still see color since the other X will override the recessive x. Males on the other hand only have a single X, so whatever is displayed by the X whether colorblindness or not, the male will display that trait, since there is nothing from the Y chromosome to override the recessive x. This is reason why a lot of hereditary diseases are displayed more often in males than females. Another example of this is hemophilia, which is the inability to clot blood.
@@SnailKingGY Huh. Interesting. I heard of a guy that was saved from AIDS as hemophiliac because someone in his long ago DNA ran across something a lot like it before.

OF COURSE I’ve seen The Wizard of Oz! Great reference....kinda the perfect example for this🤗
on god, god bless the family and the kid
These glasses are magic: the moment you put them on for the first time, people start YAPP, YAPP, YAPP, YAPPING
19:41 He's like: "Holy cow, YOU LET ME LEAVE THE HOUSE DRESSED IN THIS?"
Look when he said “oh cream” that made me so happy ❤️
I remember someone saying that the big reason that deaf people cry when hearing for the first time is how overwhelming it is rather than happiness alone, I imagine that this experience is similar.
I mean yeah, it's something so foreign.... Like rather than them thinking "wow i can hear" it's more like "the fUck is tHAT"
Exactly, and the people shoving cameras in their face the moment they experience this...I mean, come on! And stop asking them "WHAT DO YOU SEE?" Just let them breath for a second.

Many years ago I was with a friend who was born deaf, but as a college student received a hearing implant. I was with her when it was first turned on - I will never forget her tears of joy. It was very overwhelming and took a long time to adjust, but the quality of her life just shot up like a rocket!
@@lilydrimm6626 Very funny video, where blind people asked what was shocking once they got cochlear. Like the toilet is REALLY loud, lol
Omfg it's actually heartbreaking to hear ppl say "oh that's yellow" like yellow is a colour that makes me so happy and I'm so emotional right now 😭😭😭😭
Сижу реву, как же я за них всех рада!!!!🙏🙏🙏❤️
as an artist this really gets me, I can't imagine how incredible it must be to see colors you've never been able to distinguish before. The little variations in the world is what makes it beautiful, Im so glad that these are available to people now
Same!
When a person becomes an artist, over time that artist learns more and more over the years to open up and really see those vibrant colors in the most beautiful light and also see more of it around them...they also get a new outlook on life because of it,really...
I would love too get these for my grandpa but the rest of my family think it's a stupid idea. I'm going too try to save up regardless and get this for him!
Edit: I have yet to get the glasses due to covid sadly, but I'm just now getting back to work and plan on getting them for him near Christmas time. 😊
Em Acosta then ur family is stupid.
Good luck
How much do they cost?
Save up and get them, your grandpa might not be here for many more years so might as well let him see color correctly for the first time!
@@xpertdre they're pretty expensive, probably around 200-300 depending on the style
"THERE'S STUFF INSIDE THE FLOWER!?"
At one time I began to have more depth perception. I love seeing these because it is just how I felt when I could see stars twinkle for the first time!
I'd love to see a reaction from someone who was color blind who put them on thinking they were regular sunglasses.
YESSSS!!!!!!!!!! OMFG they gonna go crazy 😂😭💯✳️ do it at an aquarium or at the beach to look at the sunset 👀✨
I'd love to see someone put them on half way through an acid trip. 🤣🤣🤣
edit: found someone putting them on without knowing ruclips.net/video/5qWsPyJE6PQ/видео.html&ab_channel=InPurrGalactic
I'm actually doing this for my boyfriend for his 30th birthday in San Diego! Going to take him to see a sunset and casually give him the "sunglasses"
@@honest_travel thats so nice!!!!!
Elvi F video?
That cheat sheet they made was such a creative idea. So thoughtful
Then it said love you!!! That was so beautiful. They really love their child.
I wanted to see what it said.
Какая хорошая семья!!!! Привет из России!!!! Пусть будет мир во всем мире!!!
Budet mir, kogda rossiyane uydut iz Ukrainy.
@25:10. Best moment for me, I don't cry usually but that teared me up.
