Honestly seeing a multi-billion dollar conglomerate of companies having no actual effort put into the song they "own", and proceeding to put forth a claim on your video, as well as Fortress Films (which is speculating, but I wouldn't be surprised), is not only a "scumbag move" as many have put it, it is incredibly lazy on their part. They run away with 80% of the money of your video for a clip that takes less than 3% of the runtime, which mostly consists of work another group put hard work into. Sony and the people participating in this highway robbery should not even make 1% off of it, especially regarding the fact you had already paid for an agreement. As an animator, I understand this pain. It can take us months to a year to complete one animation for RUclips. Last year my team created the Resident Evil 2 REANIMATED which took us nearly a year to finish. It was a non-profit animation made for fun and by fans of the classic game. Then the moment it was uploaded onto RUclips, it was claimed by RepostNetwork. They claimed they owned the audio from the PS1 game and tried to earn revenue from the video. I had no manager so I had to deal it with myself. So I went through the annoying system, sent constant emails to the network, contacted the musician, and told them that this was a mistake and this music network didn't own anything in our animation. But that was a waste of time because not a single human got back to me. But they were still manually rejecting my appeals. It was stressing me out and kicking our whole team down for our hard work. It got to a point where I resent my proof of their errors...BUT added a threat that I could meet them in court. Then guess what happened...their claim was dropped. It was a hard hard-fought win, but the whole thing was unnecessary. Sorry it happened to you Pyro and hope you get justice.

The problem is, how much additional money is that gonna cost? I imagine Pyro's not exactly hurting for capital if he was willing to drop five figures on a song for a five minute music video in a four-hour RUclips video, but Pyro is one guy and Sony was ranked 88th on the Fortune 500 list in 2021. Even if Pyro has a case here, which he obviously does, Sony can just stall the litigation for as long as possible and make any settlement they eventually have to make worthless compared to the cost of lawyers' time.
China is the perfect example of why IP protection isn't necessary. RUclipsrs need a damn union with a pit of angry lawyers. Maybe then labels will hesitate to auto claim 80% of the money for a single part of a fraction of the video. Or maybe RUclips will even start taking its massive content sweatshop seriously.
You'd have to first argue that RUclipsrs are technically employees of RUclips (and given that they're essentially independent contractors, good luck with that - the system doesn't want you having a say). Otherwise, you can't actually form a union. Could definitely form a legal fund though!

Good luck fighting Sony lmao Copyright in it's current state is rigged towards media conglomerates like Sony because they know all the loopholes. It is necessary to have Copyright because it protects artists from people stealing their work, the problem starts when media companies start abusing it. You rarely see copyright cases being fought in court because it is almost impossible to fight them if you're the "infringer".
@@gerardonavarro3400 That's not even true. He *could* win, he just couldn't stay in court long enough to win given how much money they're willing to spend just to ruin smaller people. Shit should actually be illegal. Like I get it, you own the rights, but you shouldn't be able to just milk a smaller creator (compared to Sony, any RUclipsr is small).
I feel vindicated for calling it being Sony in the comments on your video initially explaining how the licensing came about. While I did not expect them to go this insultingly low, it is also very much on-brand for the company that basically tried to swipe most of Michael Jackson's property from under him later in life. These people will screw even those who have leverage, and the game was rigged from the start in your case.
@@cooldud7071 Honestly, first time around, I called Sony cockroaches, and the website didn't want to confirm the comment. Deleted that part and it went through.
Bring them to court. Show the receipts of the e-mails between your manager and the music label. Show that the video was claimed by Sony after your agreement.
Fun Fact: the cover of The Man Who Sold The World was originally recorded for the 1983 British comedy film called Party Party, next time you listen to the song you can think of A: It’s use in Party Party, B: It’s Use in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain and C: Pyro getting scammed out of £14,000 by Sony Music Entertainment
Hot take: if an artist, their family, or those that worked directly on a project is unable to receive profit from their art...it deserves to be public domain. Culture vultures whom hold "rights" to something they had no real work in developing it...they have made back their money on investment by then, and ultimately are profiting off no actual creative value or effort (which is what art should be worth) In other words...copyright and use laws need a overhaul in general...but will not happen as long as its profitable otherwise.
Man I love it when a company worth multiple billions of dollars copyright strikes a passion project because of 5 minutes out of a four hour video, this is like if I put a single drop of water in the ocean and claimed the entire sea.
You should try that, get rights on a body of water within the US and start charging big companies to use it. I mean, it would absolutely wreck water rights probably forever, but it would be funny for a couple decades.
the fact that that many companies are allowed to own a song is a glaring problem and as you now see, that just further creates problems for everyone that wants to use the song and pay them for it, 14k just to use one song for a little youtube video is insane theres no regulation at all they just straight up are asking for most people's whole year salary just to use 1 song which is ridiculous and greedy
For multiple millions of viewers, that's actually not bad. The 14k isn't the problem here (though I agree on the joint ownership thing), it's the abuse of RUclips's claim system while utilizing another avenue of getting money for the song.
Is not that they own it It is more like the label that owns it rents it out to local labels to print and sell records in countries where they can't or won't release it The thing is that the internet is the whole world in one place, so ALL of those labels have the rights for the song in 1 country, meaning that if you don't pay each holder the video (or song) can only be played on selected countries Basically the music industry is using an outdated method (as always)
I’m glad I watched the vid day one, allowed me to get the full experience with it. It’s weird how after like a couple hours vultures swoop in to yoink money. Half the big vids I watch usually change once they get claimed. And it’s so hard to find the missing parts.
It's Sony. They could easily outspend Pyro and fuck him in the courts. A more likely (though still unlikely) avenue would be to try and make this blow up so public pressure forces them to acquiesce.
As someone who saw it ummuted, I definitely re-watched that intro 4-5 times after finishing the video, the talent of both the singer and fortress films is transformative. Hate to see it
i saw it on the first hour of release when the song was still in there. when i tell you i was HYPED during that entire intro, full goosebumps the whole song intro. as a big fan of you and a huge fan of mgs5, this saddens me to no end to see you get stripped of all your hard work. you and fortressfilms did such an amazing job no matter what anyone says, i pray this gets solved with no further issues.
Honestly? At this point, just don't even put the song back and refuse to pay them the 14k if you can. They've already shown that they don't care if you're paying them for the song and taking 80% of the revenue for 2% of a video is blatant theft. Music companies these days are straight up criminals and I don't think I've seen a single person support their terrible practices.
I'm glad I was able to watch it when it first came out with the audio and I was genuinely surprised it was in the video but now look where we're at now. It's so fucked up what they did especially with how good this video is.
I was genuinely surprised when I heard that song in the video, because it seems like it's almost impossible to get something that popular in a RUclips video without it getting claimed no matter what you do. I've heard this same story from a few different people and it sucks so bad. Always the same with the RUclips copyright system

FotressFilm's Entropy Zero intro video are still up with the audio as well, but the fact that Sony decided to choose Pyro over FF because *subscribers* difference they just think about leeching the bigger one than small one but I made rather half-correct and false conclusion
Until the situation is resolved the memory of watching that video as soon as it came out shall be engraved in my brain. Such phenomenal work by Fortress Films and Pyro. Only downside is that the video reminded me of Underhell and how we'll probably never see it again.
Intellectual property is one of those things meant to benefit smaller creators and shit, but got absolutely abused to benefit corporations and labels.
Could definitely form a legal fund though!
any such union will be a s***hole of massive proportions.
unions arent the magic solution to all corporate problems
@@impishlyit9780 And Google owns RUclips! So that makes stuff worse!
I wonder if any of the shareholders saw the irony in doing all of that for a song called "The man who sold the world"
That implies that they would care enough to think about it. There's a reason we call them all things like "vultures" - they aren't human.
@@impishlyit9780 man don't do vultures dirty like that. they fulfill an important ecological niche and are actually quite playful and empathetic animals.
shareholders are more like parasites.
I'm glad I got to enjoy seeing it when it first aired. That song really did make the intro.
same
Due to budget reasons Bad-Cop will now be "The man who stole the world".
You deserve better pyro
nah.
the man who paid 14k
Glad I heard it before it was muted but sometimes I like to rewatch the video for fun because it's genuinely that good. Sony is decprepitly getting by enforcing their music rights genuine god awful company.
The animator fortress film release it on his channel unmuted
@@seedad117
when i discovered it was muted what i did was hopped over to fortress films, watched their version, then went back to where it ends in pyro's to keep watching
annoying, but at least i was able to appreciate the intro properly that way
@RoshiGaming
based.
BROOOOOOO
The moment pyro went to drop the PS5 and ad came up FOR THE PS5 holy shit that cracked me up a fair bit 😂
Looks like pyro's going to court soon.
Good luck fighting Sony lmao
Copyright in it's current state is rigged towards media conglomerates like Sony because they know all the loopholes. It is necessary to have Copyright because it protects artists from people stealing their work, the problem starts when media companies start abusing it. You rarely see copyright cases being fought in court because it is almost impossible to fight them if you're the "infringer".
He couldn't win even if he wanted to
Sony do have some shit lawyers
@@gerardonavarro3400 That's not even true. He *could* win, he just couldn't stay in court long enough to win given how much money they're willing to spend just to ruin smaller people. What Sony has done literally amounts to theft, and RUclips could probably get caught up in it for having a system that allows it. There's no laws protecting them, just money.
Shit should actually be illegal. Like I get it, you own the rights, but you shouldn't be able to just milk a smaller creator (compared to Sony, any RUclipsr is small).
especially when you're in talks to let said content creator use said copyrighted work
I feel vindicated for calling it being Sony in the comments on your video initially explaining how the licensing came about.
While I did not expect them to go this insultingly low, it is also very much on-brand for the company that basically tried to swipe most of Michael Jackson's property from under him later in life. These people will screw even those who have leverage, and the game was rigged from the start in your case.
Why do you call them people?
@@cooldud7071
Because we don't want to be anti-semitic
@@cooldud7071 Honestly, first time around, I called Sony cockroaches, and the website didn't want to confirm the comment.
Deleted that part and it went through.
@@redline841why do you say this
@@bananabed9492 Because they're sad and need attention
If that’s the case, they shouldn’t have taken the money at the first place
Hope there’s a legal way to take back what’s yours.
Bet you'll talk to Midge Ure, and the ghost of David Bowie, and they'd both give you permission to use the song faster than Sony.
You know shit’s real when Pyro’s audience isn’t joking in the comments
I think I'm about to be on the news for some cruelty squad level shenanigans against big corporations (for legal reasons this is a joke)
Need help? If bungie is close I got flaming hammers as a backup
@@ShatterIsMyName anyone is welcome, and while we're raiding sony we can make them finally port bloodborne to PC
Woah woah, cool it with the antisemitic remarks!
Absolute vultures
"You don't understand Mr. Pyrocynical! We need the money! WE NEED IT!" -Sony
They need it to make the games!!!! They have no money for games!!!!!!
I am one of the blessed few to see the full vid unaltered. Truly I am grateful.
Bring them to court. Show the receipts of the e-mails between your manager and the music label. Show that the video was claimed by Sony after your agreement.
its ok pyro they will use the money to produce the first ever ps5 game
"Ah yes, i gotta go on holiday, see ya (never)" my favorite excuse that corpos use because "if i don't hear it, i'm right".
“Jeez, Walt, what’s in the bag? The man who sold the world?”
saw it when it was unmuted, was a pretty sick intro montage ngl.
Hot take: if an artist, their family, or those that worked directly on a project is unable to receive profit from their art...it deserves to be public domain.
Culture vultures whom hold "rights" to something they had no real work in developing it...they have made back their money on investment by then, and ultimately are profiting off no actual creative value or effort (which is what art should be worth)
In other words...copyright and use laws need a overhaul in general...but will not happen as long as its profitable otherwise.
Which means we need to make it unprofitable somehow.
I saw him throw the ps5 and my wallet attempted supuku
the fact that that many companies are allowed to own a song is a glaring problem and as you now see, that just further creates problems for everyone that wants to use the song and pay them for it, 14k just to use one song for a little youtube video is insane theres no regulation at all they just straight up are asking for most people's whole year salary just to use 1 song which is ridiculous and greedy
For multiple millions of viewers, that's actually not bad. The 14k isn't the problem here (though I agree on the joint ownership thing), it's the abuse of RUclips's claim system while utilizing another avenue of getting money for the song.
Is not that they own it
It is more like the label that owns it rents it out to local labels to print and sell records in countries where they can't or won't release it
The thing is that the internet is the whole world in one place, so ALL of those labels have the rights for the song in 1 country, meaning that if you don't pay each holder the video (or song) can only be played on selected countries
Basically the music industry is using an outdated method (as always)
Jesus, that one song is surrounded by so much vultures and leeches
Sounds like grounds to sue.
True, Idc how good a lawyer Sony has there's no way a jury will let let get by
When I watched the Entropy Zero 2 video I thought something was wrong with my laptop.
absolutely disgusting corporate greed
Im glad that i had a chance to watch this intro with the music, goosebumps saved.
welp. i shall pirate the hell out of all these companies now
man who sold the chins
chins of inflation
Put royalty free ukulele over it out of spite.
There needs to be a major, complete overhaul of the copyright system. As well as some serious anti-trust/anti-monopoly investigations.
Not to mention anti monopoly protection!
Solid 'blimey' from me, mate. Jeeze. What a nightmare!
I’m glad I watched the vid day one, allowed me to get the full experience with it.
It’s weird how after like a couple hours vultures swoop in to yoink money.
Half the big vids I watch usually change once they get claimed. And it’s so hard to find the missing parts.
Never trust big companies
I wish you the best Pyro! it bullshit what your going through right now
"Lol" Said the scorpion
"lol"
I'd sue over this. Sony can't possibly expect to get away with this, this is literally scamming since they don't even own the full rights to give out.
Unfortunately that really doesn’t seem to be a good idea, since this is SONY, they got money to burn
It's Sony. They could easily outspend Pyro and fuck him in the courts. A more likely (though still unlikely) avenue would be to try and make this blow up so public pressure forces them to acquiesce.
if the legal sistem was fair they wouldn't
but they have the best lawyers at their hand and a rigged "legal sistem"
you vs a multi billion company lol
snoy moment
Hot take: big companies deserve less.
I'm now awaiting the Sony assassin that'll visit me as I sleep tonight.
To quote Peaky Blinders: "Big fucks small."
As someone who saw it ummuted, I definitely re-watched that intro 4-5 times after finishing the video, the talent of both the singer and fortress films is transformative. Hate to see it
They ain’t out of touch, they’re just greedy.
Its disgusting how companies conduct themselves in this space
I'm so glad I got to watch the video before the song was muted
i saw it on the first hour of release when the song was still in there. when i tell you i was HYPED during that entire intro, full goosebumps the whole song intro. as a big fan of you and a huge fan of mgs5, this saddens me to no end to see you get stripped of all your hard work. you and fortressfilms did such an amazing job no matter what anyone says, i pray this gets solved with no further issues.
Pyro’s living his Disco Eysium arc, and it’s the saddest shit.
bruh sony moment
This is crazy, didn't realize the vulture situation was this bad. Tons of studios claiming that soundtrack.
That's actually fucking infuriating, especially considering how good that sequence is.
I'm thinking its about time to bring back pitchforks...
Yeah I wonder when we are going to see those companies pay for their awful shit.
fuck am i glad i saw the original, that songs been stuck in my head since i watched that intro
How RUclips has managed to avoid a class-action lawsuit for allowing these practices for so long is horrendous.
Likely becuase google owns them and has the power to protect themselves. Which needs to end.
I'm so glad I saw the video the day it released so I could see it in all it's intended glory.
this is a certified cruelty squad moment
I am so glad I saw the original version with the montage
i saw the video while it still had audio, dam..
Update: The Video on fortress film is now removed. THANK YOU SONY! (Last part is sarcasm)
You should sue sony, them copyright striking your video even though you paid for the rights of the music should be illegal
Hi tride
when the muted part hit i thought my entire sound on my pc broke and i was panicking
