Most of the effects for Megumin's explosions are still hand drawn (you can see the pre composited shots on the official twitter actually). As for the absence of Shu Sugita, Kazunori Ozawa and Shinya in S3, they were extremely busy while S3 was in production (working on the Uma Musume movie while Ozawa was working on UY reboot and OPM S3) and the fact that Shu Sugita still contributed to a cut in the opening for S3 and Ozawa's finale explosion was amazing. The lighting and art direction in S3 was also pretty supreme imo especially in episode 7 and 8 but I agree that we needed more random bursts of Sakuga that we used to see in the movie and previous seasons. Hopefully they can hire more freelance animators for future seasons
I love konosuba so much it’s gotta be my favorite anime no other anime has made me feel the kind of pure joy I feel watching it. The light novel is also rlly good probably better than the anime I recommend it

Id imagine the animation being weaker is because... there werent really any Demon Generals was there? Only big moments were the great thief shenanagins, the Hydra and the wedding. Not a whole not to chew on there. Ill be real though, I didnt care for the animation being this way, the jokes absolutely carried.
