      A new carb might be better than an old Edelbrock that needs rebuilding and tuned.
      People are clueless as to how simple Edelbrock carbs are to tune.

      I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with the Edelbrock,@@hotrodray6802. They’re a “fine” carburetor. If you’re more comfortable/familiar with that platform, I’d probably stick with it. BUT, (and I think it’s been independently verified more than a few times) the Holley will almost always make more power. Coke is also better than Pepsi, even though they’re both full of empty calories. 😂

    I normally peruse tuner channels, jdm stuff etcetera, but I pop in over here quite often for a refreshing break once in awhile.

    SUGGESTION INSTALLING INTAKE. Go to Ace Hardware get some nice long intake bolts and cut the heads of the bolts and hand screw them into the the Engine before lowering your intake down it will keep the intake from shifting around on you. Once the intake is in place simply remove the bolts.

    Just got a jegs intake manifold and an edelbrock 500cfm for my bone stock 79 f100 302, looking forward to when this semesters over. Been running like crap and I went through everything except the reman 2 barrel carb on it, i sure hope this fixes it!

    We have a 750 on a 305, runs great. Look up big carb on 305, you will find much bigger carbs on these tiny engine bore. Just shows a motor is an air pump, and it will flow as much as the combo allows. My 289 has a Predator on top. What a toilet! No other carb makes as much low end torque! Airflow!

    The dual plane is definitely a better street friendly intake. There are many ways to tune the carb and a couple right ways. You definitely need a vacuum gauge. Good luck. Looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

      Triple check the installation, make sure you have enough fuel pressure, no vacuum or exhaust leaks, be absolutely positive its grounded very well, and be sure the engine is in good condition with no burned valves, wasted guides, or trashed rings. Most people who have problems with FiTech or Sniper systems have an installation error or one of the above problems. Right now my FiTech equipped 65 GTO has a rather large exhaust leak at the head, that makes the O2 read super lean, and causes it to over fuel to compensate. Its not a big problem running on E85, because more fuel means more power, and it doesn't run like crap, but on gasoline pig rich is very bad. On E85 mileage goes down, but drivability isn't affected by it running super rich. A vacuum leak can have a similar effect if its on the side with the O2 sensor, though not as pronounced.
      I haven't run a Sniper on one of mine yet, but I plan to pick up the 4500 flanged unit for my street strip Pontiac. A couple other guys I know have the sniper, and they work good as long as you have no vacuum or exhaust leaks, and enough fuel pressure. We build our own fuel systems rather than using the ones they supply. The FiTech guys had a ton of problems with their add on system that is a small surge tank fed by the stock pumps. They might have fixed it, but the first ones had issues.

      @@SweatyFatGuy i'm going to go over it again once i finish the interior of my vette in the next week or so, but the issue i'm having is that sometimes it starts up fine and idles ok, others it will be hard to start and then idle at 1200 and slowly come down to 800-1000, makes no sense to me, this is after a custom tune, initially it was running really rich and idled rough. i'm totally new to working on cars so lack of experience doesnt help

      @@dazasc3994 Sounds like it could be a sticky idle air control valve, but not probable. The cold start can do that too, depending on what the sensor is telling the ECM and how much fuel its set to deliver on cold starts vs hot starts.
      The sensor that came with the first FiTech units read cold, even when it was 220F it was reading 170F, so that caused some issues like that. I swapped it for a Delco sensor and that fixed some of that.
      Once I get a Sniper on something I will be able to figure those kinds of things out. I have a bunch of cars and trucks, been doing carbs and EFI for over 30 years now, but if I don't know the interface with the EFI and how it works, its hard to pinpoint causes of problems.
      I noticed a lot of guys who are 'tuners' can really screw up one of these TBI units, particularly if they are used to tuning things with HPTuners or some kind of MegaSquirt, Holley Dominator, multiport systems. You can do A LOT more with one of those, and the TBIs simply can't do some of the things those MPFI setups can. You have to think of it like its a carb that you tune without opening the hood.
      Most guys are clueless with it comes to carbs. No offense to anyone who owns a green Mustang, but the jetting isn't the problem from putting on a 'too big" carb, the problem is the lag time between when the fuel starts to flow from the bowls through the boosters and into the venturi, after the accelerator pump shot is done.
      That lag is caused by a small engine not making enough vacuum for the main circuits to work right, or causing problems with the idle circuit exposing too much transfer slot.
      the TBI systems don't rely on vacuum to operate like a carb does, so they can tame a lope at idle from a large cam, but not enough vacuum can really mess with them too, but in different ways.
      The MAP sensor needs a certain amount of vacuum to function, but its not the same as a carb since the fuel is under pressure rather than 'drawn' in. Thats why vacuum leaks mess with EFI, it has to know how much air is being ingested, and with no mass airflow sensor it relies on the MAP sensor.
      I'm not sure what the Sniper uses for MAP, but its worth looking into.
      The way these TBI systems work is similar to 80s speed density systems like came on 5.0 Fords and the early TBI on GM vehicles. The ECM needs to know how big the engine is, then it measures vacuum/pressure in the manifold, throttle angle, and fine tunes with the O2 sensor to hit the desired AFR. Its runs all that info through an algorithm to decide how much fuel to allow past the injectors.
      A carb uses pressure differential to work. Atmospheric pressure is higher than the pressure in the venturi, because a venturi speeds up the air by pinching the passage, that lowers pressure as the air goes faster. The booster is a smaller venturi stuck in the middle of the larger one, and as the air flows past it the high pressure on the float bowl pushes fuel to the lower pressure at the booster.
      You can do the same thing with a straw in a fast food cup, stick it out the window at 60mph angled back from the direction of travel, and the air moving past the straw will 'pull' liquid from the cup. Really its atmospheric pressure pushing it up the straw and out, but it looks like its drawing it.
      The way an airplane flies is the same thing, the top of the wing is curved, that makes the air going over the wing move faster, then the air under the wing lifts it. The longer the curve, the more lift it makes, but also more drag. Cars make that same lift, which is why spoilers and wings can make cars go faster despite inducing some drag. They reduce drag in other areas.
      Its really cool how all of this stuff works.

    I broke my fuel filter off inside of my brand new carb on my ‘75 Mustang. It was terribly sad, and I wound up having to order a new carb. A few months later my engine exploded. 😂 Now the car has been sitting for 3 years because Ford parts, especially for the Mustang II, are very hard to find and expensive when you do find them.
    Currently I’m waiting for the parts to install the Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 EFI on my ‘69 Firebird. I’m also installing the Holley fuel tank with the in-tank fuel pump system.

    Timely, I am installing a Edelbrock Performer on my '66 GT coupe. I have an Edelbrock carb that came on the car. For what it's worth, I painted my manifold with high heat silver paint to hopefully keep it looking great longer. Looking forward to your install video!

    just put the same carb on my buddy's '66 tbird 390...really worked out well, even with the stock intake. had some linkage challenges, but that had more to do with the car than the carb. as they say, though, 90% of carb issues are really ignition issues, so make sure the ignition is flying right first. have fun

    About time for some new content! Been waiting for a while! Lol that Holley setup is going to look so good and I personally feel that Fords run better with Holley’s. I have a Holley on my 67 Cougar and haven’t had a problem with it.

    The age old discussion - what flow rating carb works best for my engine! I'd bet 95% of engines that are built for performance run larger than the "calculated" need. Years ago I built up a 302 to run up to a little over 6,000 rpm. A low 500 CFM carb should've been enough. Everything on the shelf was 600 min and most were 650+. Ran a 650. Car ran great. No flat spots. No cold issues. Just has to work hard to jet and tune it right.

    Still rockin’ a stock Zenith carb on my car. It leaks, the idle has to be readjusted whenever the season changes, but it’s fun and replacements are expensive. Just got a new exhaust system, luckily. Keep on going with these vids, man!

    I'll throw some of my experiences, good and bad, into the pile.
    You can't go wrong with a Holley. They are so simple to work with. Holley has a help line for added performance tips. I installed a brand new 600cfm on my built 302 with vacuum secondaries. First thing I did was remove the choke. As you mentioned, it's really not needed in So Cal. There is actually a way to modify vacuum secondaries to open quickly but it's kind of useless if you drive on the street a lot. I tried it and all it did was spin the tires like crazy in first gear. It felt like a double pumper.
    Many have had issues with the small intake gaskets on the front and rear of the manifold so I just deleted those silly little ones and used gasket maker. Never had any problems.
    One huge performance part is an MSD ignition box. You will feel the difference in the lower gears!

    Yea if you didn't have that electric choke the carb might load up with fuel a few miles down the road and die! Put you in some bad situations, that happened to me for 3 months in 1997 after i V8 swapped a 89 mustang, i put a edlebrock performer intake with a holley 650 double pumper on it, i could be 5 miles into a trip and it would just shut off like it had a fuel pump issue, i had a holley blue external fuel pump, finally some mechanic told me what was happening and i had a manual choke installed problem resolved

    Don’t be discouraged by others telling you a 670 is too big. These cars came factory with 650cfm autolite carb if it was optioned for it. I have a 750 Holley on my 289 and it makes a world of a difference. Just make sure you adjust the floats in the bowls correctly.

    Yea, anything over about 500cfm is a waste on small blocks, Chevy Ford or Mopar.. more gas doesnt equal more power.
    I also disagree on dual plane manifolds. It induces 'pulsing' in the intake side of the motor. Just as an x-pipe helps scavenge exhaust gases from the opposite bank of cylinders on the exhaust side, you want a smooth flow of fuel on the intake side too. Lot of guys just cut a big chunk from between the two intake sides, or drill a few large holes.
    Also, good tip when introducing 'aluminum' into your engines' cooling circuit. either aluminum heads or intake manifold, get an "ANODE" radiator cap. Aluminum and steel in the same cooling circuit causes 'electrons'.. basically two dis-similar metals begin to 'eat' one another. The aluminum, will lost this fight, you will find pitting in used aluminum intake manifolds around the water jackets, near where it bolts to the steel heads. Eventually causing the intake to leak water, into your block and out side.

      500cfm? thats what cfm my stock 5.2 magnum tbi throttle body is pulling. 302 ford is good with a 600-625, same with a 318 mopar, and 327 chevy.

    i've heard of quality issues with the chinese-made "why-and". shoulda just rebuilt the current carb and refurbished the current intake. would have made for a better video but then you would get your hands dirty and learned something. ;)
