  • In this video I take out my "new" Savage 110 in 7mm WSM. I try some Winchester factory ammo and 150 gr ELD-X handloads. I also brought my Mark V Deluxe in 340 Weatherby and tested the 250 gr Accubond.

So much Hoopla about the 7PRC and the 6.8 W. The 7PRC is basically a 7WSM in a long action, long bullets seated out to 3.35", 6.8W a bit shorter case and a bit longer overall. All 3 almost equal. Individual preference. I will stick to the 7RM, about the same performance

    • @Accuracy1st

I just shot my latest 7RemMag today. If you didn't have a 7RemMag and the following were all readily available, equal amounts of factory loadings, equal amount of reloading components, etc., which would you choose?
      7RemMag
      7PRC
      7WSM
      6.8 Western

Agree, the cartridges you mentioned are so similar that arguing over preference is ridiculous. The majority of shooters are less capable than the cartridges themselves

@@Accuracy1st It will be a 7RM, About the same performance, BUT in a 3.8" action,(a bit more room to seat out long bullets) Standard 1 in 9 twist (doubt I'll ever load heavier than 180 grns (160 to 175grns max) Midway has a 10 to 1 availabillity of loaded ammo and cases. Every fish and takle store on the backroads of America will have 7RM. I doubt about the others. Just covenient for me. Will have my old 1917 Enfield rebarreled to 35 Whelen. If I kept it as 30-06, wouldn't need a 7RM. It's mindbogling to make up My mind. Might just Hotrod it to 28 Nosler

I know you’re sick of me commenting about it…… the 7 WSM was absolutely the biggest miss (I know not 100% in their control) by Hunter/Reloaders. 139-160 grain bullets, a good rifle, and the efficiency of the cartridge is near perfect. All the average Hunter at hunting range needs. It can easily be loaded with reduced loads to mimic the 7mm08 and nearly as efficiently. I’d trade my new PRC rifle today for a fully supported rerelease… have a 300 WSM on the way. Excited for it.

Honestly I never got into the WSM, WSSM, or the RSAUM cartridges. Definitely no knock against them by any means I worked up loads for a 270 WSM and it was great. I guess just being a dedicated handloader I still like the belted cartridges just for ease of making brass out of other belted mags. I never did understand how the 7 WSM didn’t really make it though I thought it was a great cartridge. Only ones I ever see in person anymore are the 300 WSM and 270 WSM. I did always think the 325 WSM was the most underrated cartridge of all of them though, and I would prolly own one if I ever found one lol.

One thing I found that really decreased my group size from 1.5 inch to .5 inch was switching from a magnum primer to a large rifle primer.

I have been a die hard Nosler hunter/shooter/loader for many years up until 3 years ago when it became extremely hard to find 7mm Nosler AB’s in 140 or 160gr. I started load development with Hammers and was so easy I put the 120gr HH and 143gr HH in my lineup. Still shoot Nosler but no exclusively. I’m fortunate to be able to harvest 10 whitetail deer a year and a few hogs. I was worried about Hammers not having enough expansion but found out like other bullets, if placed correctly, DRT. Thanks for video. I’m sure it’s hot up there but down in Deep South it’s cooking.

@@camwinston5248 Hammers are easy to load for but they are sure expensive. Once I work up a load, I don’t shoot many after until hunting season. I still worry about wound channel with them. I’ve killed almost 10 deer so far and had trouble finding one due to almost no blood trail but was only 15 yards away (at dark). Steve (Hammer owner) is a great guy and will help you in any way he can). Great people. I live in North Central Florida and hunt mainly in central Georgia. I know it’s a little warm in Tupelo also. I think you should try the Hammers. I run the 143’s in my .280AI and the 120’s in my 7-08. Hammer Hunters (no tip). They are less money and shoot just as good. They give 10% off to first responders and military vets. They have sample packs and a lot of load info on their site.

@@johnkaraphillis754 I thoroughly appreciate your detailed response..and greetings to you in Florida and I know central GA is a good hunting whitetail location..I fully understand the not wanting to have to track a deer especially in the thickets we have and at dusk dark..I am a strong proponent of a full pass thru with a great wound channel that dumps alot of 'shocking" power on the way as well. I am a great fan of the 35whelen 200gr pill..it knocks a impressive hole and i wouldn't be afraid to take out to 300yd at all if needed. Big fan! Very efficient cartridge as well, I've been looking at the hammers possibly for the 7rm and 300wm primarily..I've found the federal fusion excellent in the 7/08 for deer, I've never had or shot a 280ai but I've always seen it to be a very impressive round on paper, would love to shoot one..I'm also LOL thinking of putting together an 30/378 just for fun of course..now as far as deer are concerned if being open and honest I could probably do 90% of my hunting with the ol' 30/30 and not be lacking at all. Hi Austin! Love the videos! I always like hearing about cartridges and comparisons. I have had a Mark V Deluxe in .340 Weatherby for 19 years now! What a heavy hitter and I am beyond glad you got your dream rifle! I hope you get the chance to take it elk hunting this fall. You know, I have not always subscribed to the 3 shot group for accuracy. I like to shoot when the barrel is cool to see how it does in a first shot hunting situation. In my experience, like you, that 3rd shot always seems to be a flier. With those hot magnums, the barrel is just too hot and expands thus the rifling doesn't have the nice grip on the bullet. I could be wrong! Any thoughts?

I agree it's harder to get a good 3 shot group with a magnum. First shot is most important obviously. It can take a little more work to get a nice 3 shot group vs something like a 308 Winchester. But I can always eventually find a load that works.

    “3rd shot was a flier.”
    “I wasn’t shooting very good.”
“Hadn’t liked the bullet in the past…but today it does.”
“Didn’t let the barrel cool before that 3rd shot.”
Classic phrases that 3 shot group shooters have to say to rationalize performance that is inconsistent with their expectations or previous results.
Shoot 10-20 rounds into these groups and they will quit varying so wildly and that “flier” will all of the sudden fall well within your total group size.
You shoot constantly and you think that you are pulling these wild fliers? That’s illogical. You’re not likely to be that bad of a bench rest shooter as much as you shoot.
If you are, shooting 10-20 round groups will show you really quickly what is and is not a flier. Those “2 together and 1 alone” groups are only confusing until you repeat them 3-4 times and then all of the sudden you have a circular blob that all of those shots fall into.
You’re chasing your tail. 1 month, or 10 years from now you’ll realize it and see how much time and powder you’ve been wasting. I know this because I did the same stuff and mental gymnastics for a decade or two.
I’m poor, pay for every round I shoot and still shoot 10-15 shot groups because I don’t like lying to myself.
I know I just sound douch3y, but I don’t mean it that way. Liking the the channel, just subscribed and would love to share some range time with you if you’re ever in my area.
You’re off base with the testing protocols if you are actually interested in quantifying accuracy performance of your systems and components.

I'm very familiar with group dispersion. I almost exclusively shoot magnums. Which means barrel life is shorter, powder runs out quicker, not to mention the lack of primers. If you want to use up more recourses and barrel life just to prove you have a 10 shot 1 MOA gun... all the power to you.
