    "Fun to watch as a neutral" and "Crazy tactics that won't work in this league" seem to be a bit of a 50/50 coin flip for pundits. Some managers get blasted for "getting it wrong today" and others get praised for sticking to their way of football. Reminds me of Leeds getting smashed in games heavily but being praised for playing Bielsa ball.

    Neville is such an apologist for PGMOL, "They're frightened to death, they've been undermined by clubs", because they're doing a bad job! People don't go into games wanting to slate referee's, we want a good game that's called properly. We have these discussions every week because the ref's are dreadful and have been dreadful for a while, to the point where ex referee's have admitted to not overturning decisions because they don't want to undermine their mates, and how they chaotically just shout over each other when coming to a decision, the process is a joke.

    The premise of VAR is to remove the errors. If clubs are expected to accept these errors, then VAR should be removed. The consistency across their involvement is shocking. The time and excitement is being sucked out of the game, while fans in the stadium just sit there waiting for an announcement, whilst not even being able to see what is being looked at. There should never be the level of apologises issued after the game. The referee has one look at the incident. If he makes a mistake fair enough. For a ref watching the game on a screen and getting it wrong is insane

    • @andrewharrison7767
      @andrewharrison7767 10 месяцев назад

      the question then becomes - do clubs / fans want issues checked fully or quickly? Every var check last night was correct, the only possibly debatable one was the 2 footed lunge; close offsides can take 90 seconds as they need to avoid the liverpool error. Likewise possible reds, realistically var might have one or two tight decisions a game; last night was just a freak game

    • @1984Doyley
      @1984Doyley 10 месяцев назад +1

      This is bigger than just last night's game. It's the refereeing through VAR in general. They will interject themselves into a situation, yet the next 100 similar/ more severe situations will not carry the same outcome. A timer would be the best solution at the moment but until all instances are managed the same, VAR is not fit for purpose

      @@1984Doyley Considering these are decisions made by a team of 30-40 different humans 100% consistency is impossible, but between media & fans you'd think that errors were much more frequent than 1 wrong decision every 75 games - since 19/20 var has overseen 1349 games, with pgmol issuing fewer than 20 apologies. THREE were from misapplying the offside law, so errors of fact. The rest were subjective calls recognized after the game, but i'm pretty sure var overturns incorrect on field decisions far more regularly - but these calls get ignored by the media & fans

    Ange owning his team getting 2 red cards (which were very clear & not controversial) is very different to Arteta complaining about a goal that is very controversial & out of their hands. How is nobody calling Neville out on this? If Tottenham concede a goal like Arsenal did the other day, Ange comes out with a very different answer - by no means suggesting he’d be rude or anything like that, but it’s a different conversation to be had because it’s not on him to ‘take it on the chin’, he’d feel hard done by. He had no reason to feel hard done by last night, apart from the injuries tbh as they were so unlucky.

    Let's see how gracious Ange is towards the officiating when he's leading the league for half of the season and they "forget" to draw lines against Brentford, when a legitimate opening goal at Old Trafford is chalked off, when Kovacic rides 2 red card challenges in the space of ten seconds at home to the champions.

It also doesn't make it mature from managers and clubs to act like a decision going against them needs a response. As a Spurs fan, it was a mad game! I enjoyed it, even though we lost 4-1. Romero and Udogie lost the head. But the 9 we had out, worked their socks off. Although Chelse won 4-1, I'd be worried if I was a Chelsea fan. Jackson needs it on a plate, he even nearly fell for his third. A few years ago that Romero challenge wouldn't have even been a free. Udogie's frst challenge was worse, that should have been a red. Also James' elbow was very dodgy. For Spurs to play that mad high line, and Chelsea not being able to exploit that earlier is bad. The one run from deep (Cucurella) worked, but no idea why they didn't do it more. We had 2 free kicks with 3v7 and we won both, disallowed goal and Bentancur miss. That's bad from Chelsea. Even Son getting in at the end against 4 defenders should never have happened. More of these type of games, but get the VAR stuff done quicker.

    Trying to blur the lines between what happened during Spurs vs Liverpool (a systemic error that DID compromise sporting integrity) and Mikel Arteta getting SUBJECTIVE decisions go against them in Arsenal vs Newcastle is disengenuous.
    Those 2 things are NOT the same!!! Gary Neville knows this, but has clearly been instructed by his bosses at Sly Sports to back PGMOL. If LIverpool lose the title or top 4 by 3 points, then the league HAS been compromised. Sky Sports know this and it does affect public interest in the league.

Paul Merson was right in saying he'd be surprised if chels don't win. This season we have always turned up against the top teams. Idk what it is, but something clicks in us to actually play to our potential and go for it (ie liverpool, arsenal, now tottenham, even tho this game was a bit crazy). COME ON CHELSEA

      Lots of negative talk about them after the games but they put the ball in the net 7 times last night.Not to mention a goal line clearance by Hojberg & some fantastic saves by Vicario. All against the only unbeaten team in the league. They looked much better until Enzo went off & them a little disjointed afterwards. The spurs players realised & started going for down & staying down for longer to break up the play which worked for a bit but they just ran out of steam when the extra time was added at the end. Good win for Chels IMO
