Fun fact: As Fry and Bender are on the run and as they are about to hide in the museum, Bender says “it’s free on Tuesdays!” On the 31st December 2999, it will in fact be a Tuesday. Well played Matt Groening, well played.
Futurama is my favorite show of all time, and I love how popular it’s been getting recently. The amount of effort this video must’ve taken is far beyond my lazy, procrastinative understanding.
I agree. This channel should have so many more subscribers. I'm new here and subscribed straight away. Come on everyone do this guy a solid. He deserves it.
Would very much like to see the part 2 on this. Unless I’m being daft and not seeing it on your recents. I loved Futurama as a kid and, as an adult now, it still holds up. That aside, just discovered your channel through a recommendation on YT and I’m loving your retrospective and analysis on these shows. I love how you recap the episodes and how that just flows naturally into you forming your thoughts about it. It’s a great format. Keep it up.
There's a planned Part 2 covering the first revival, but I haven't done any serious work on it yet. I do appreciate that there are other people who like the format, as it was something I originally came up with to make organizing scripts easier.
I don’t know if you mentioned it but it’s ironic that the creators of The Simpsons, a show notorious for predicting things, didn’t use that much of an element of prediction in Futurama. It’s a testament to not making the same show and subverting the norm.
I'm so happy to see this massive amount of work that went into this and the clear love you have for the media you portray. Im excited I got in on the ground floor and can tell plebians I was here since the start ;)
Incredibly well made and deserving of more attention. The scale and quality of your channel and its contents are a gold mine waiting to be discovered for many. I was initially surprised at the length of this video due to mobile only showing half the title. But after you mentioned it was only a retrospective of the Fox run, the length surprised me even more. I’m really looking forward to more episodes coming out as I really enjoyed parts of the newest season, and am excited to watch the next installment to this video. Really, keep up the great work. And thank you for the entertainment and valued dissection of the show.
Bender: _"What do you mean? I'm very generous! Remember that time I gave blood?"_ Fry: _"Who's blood?"_ Bender: _"I dunno. Some guy's."_ **walks out of the room** I'm in the middle of a Futurama rewatch, and I just love all the little dialogue jokes like this one.
I love this video! thanks for taking the time to go through all the fox era episodes. I've been on a futurama kick again lately after being away from it ever since the last ep of the comedy central era back in 2013.
Ok ok, cutting off unexpected at the end made me come back and comment. Because this content is truly worthy of the up of thumbs, and comment for the algorithm. Good luck, truly entertaining writing friend.
i'm super glad to see more people talking about futurama, and i really appreciate the bit about the bending olympics episode. super excited to see more of your content!
the oblivion music in the background was unexpected. They say madness runs in our family. Some even call me mad. And why? Because I dared to dream of my own race of atomic monsters, atomic supermen with octagonal shaped bodies that suck blood...
thank you for this, futurama has been a returning hyperfixation of mine for a while now. and ESPECIALLY thank you for the message on the part about bend her
Dude the joke of the bueracracy episode about all the forced labor being streamlined so much it could be done by "one Australian guy" still makes me laugh uncontrollably even thinking about it, that poor man.
While I first underestimated this video for it's simplistic editing (to be fair, I have no clue how ruthless copyright is with Futurama, if you wanted to include clips from the onset), I'm blown away by these brief but highly analytical moments that are sprinkled throughout the video. I know the series like the back of my hand, but I still never really thought as deeply about some of the aspects that you chose to focus on. It's very nice to hear things I've never heard before, as someone who can't remember a time where they hadn't watched the show. Also, I think you tackled "Bend Her" wonderfully. I feel as though the writers were at least a tad bit self-aware (as it's hard to ever condone Bender's actions in any context), but there are viewers out there who can't make that distinction, in addition to how the comedy largely predicates itself on what can only now be regarded as stereotype.
What I wish I had covered better with 'Bend Her' is the inherent absurdity of gendered robots and how arbitrary it was that Bender had to undergo an entire operation so he could bend less metal. But the show itself never really argued why robots were designed with secondary sexual characteristics so that may have been reaching a bit.
@@viedogaems At the very least to me, gendered robots doesn't sound as absurd anymore as it once did when this episode aired. It's still odd in the grand scheme, but the show later makes it's stance clear that it serves a purpose. "The Bots and the Bees" later explained how sexual reproduction is possible between robots, as well it's intention to create more units, since factories now have a hard time keeping up the demand. If two robots fall in love, they can save humans work and autonomously create their own little robot that matures with age into one that can eventually serve humanity. It could be argued that because reproduction is technically possible in robot society that secondary sexual characteristics in robots serve the same purpose as they do in humans, to prolong their own existence, but that was years away from being established when "Bend Her" came out. Honestly, "The Bots and the Bees" rewriting new continuity was likely more to serve as an excuse for Bender to become a biological dad in that episode. The only reason I could see gendered robots being explained in the FOX Era continuity is to avoid the uncanny valley in robotics, so that robots can meld better with humans in modern society if they understood concepts of gender and looked more like their human-counterparts (which is saying a lot, since this a cartoon with no sense of realistic character designs). This absurdity grows to it's peak, though, when gender in robots is so normalized, that they begin to experience the trappings of gender that we humans experience (especially from the early 2000's) and would ideally wish to program out of robots in the first place. Functionally, a manbot and a fembot should operate the same. It's really strange to see how fembots have an imposed limit to their bending capabilities (which is also seen in "Bendless Love") to only better fit this feminine perception. It only hinders robots to then judge their own value based on manufactured extra pieces of metal, so there shouldn't be a divide in sports leagues, but because there is for the arbitrary reason of reduced capacity, it creates this whole mess.
I was playing rimworld on my TV while playing this video on my phone, and it really tripped me out hearing the same music FROM BOTH, I was trying to mute my game then realized and got hella confused
Thanks! (Imma keep this donation because I like this guy) I did not mean to donate the phone was in my pocket while on and made a donation selected the auto response and sent. This is not a joke
52:48 seriously, no mention of Katey Sagal? That scene was so iconic to her other character she played. You mentioned Philip c-more Huffman. Having Lila dress as Peggy was hilarious.
AAAAAAAA this is SUCH a good video !!!! i hate to be that guy, but god i cant wiat for part 2 ... i know its been 7 months but got dam!!! your editing is great, and as other people have said this video is FAR beyond lazy. i'd love to watch some of your other adult animation retrospectives, but that would spoil the shows and i want to watch them first slkfjlskfsf. ANYWAY i can tell just by this one video that your content is stellar; i cant wait for more! (aka to come back to some of your videos after i inevitably watch the shows they cover). cheers !! EDIT: also, i TOTALLY forgot to say, but your analyses of every episode after recapping the plot made me TOTALLY rethink a lot of the episodes! futurama is my childhood show, so many of these messages i didnt get because i was just too young, and i didnt realize them NOW because im. dumb /j. so thakn you for that so much!!!! this video is so good
I was a kid when this show came out, so i just ran with the premise in order to be entertained. Now, as an adult, i see how completely unrealistic this show is. Now, i wont pretend i know what the year 3000 is like, but how many of my fellow americans believe that your boss would just let someone who isnt a customer use their goods and services for free for 1000 years? Talk about Set it and Forget it!
1:50:39 I mean, isn't this the opposite? I remember a time before Social Media, and I'm perpetually horrified by how people share all their information so casually online. But I'd be pretty hard pressed to find someone who had a touchscreen in their hand as a child who isn't just ok with putting their real name out on the internet. I mean, when I first saw that Nickelodeon had shows about children making some borderline fetish content on the air, years ago, I was pretty mortified. I kinda took this episode to be one of those "Pot calling the Kettle Black" moments in the series, as robot pleasure doubles are a pretty messed up concept, but the willingness to participate in this messed up notion is exactly why Fry ultimately belongs with these people. Their values are all skewed in a similar gray way, even if its slightly different depending on their relative societal perspectives.
I love that the human version of Bender is basically just Homer Simpson with blonde hair. Even the clothes match 😂 *2:45:17 that’s /RULER/ of the planet omicron persei 8 to you 😉
I was incredibly interested in watching this video but i found the background music extremely distracting. Hopefully I can come across a way to remove the back ground music or for the creator to upload a version with out the background music.

Insane that this channel is being slept on so hard. I feel like I’m looking at the next Summoning Salt

Blimey, I thought I heard snoring🤨... I'm subscribe🏃🏾♀

@bengarrison7780just no? Lmao.

Let's be honest. Real men got ready to shed a tear at the "Jurassic Bark" recap.
Goddamn you, just seeing jurassic bark made me tear up.
Jurassic Bark is what makes Futurama stand out from other animations in its cohort. It’s a masterpiece episode.
I'm so happy to see this massive amount of work that went into this and the clear love you have for the media you portray. Im excited I got in on the ground floor and can tell plebians I was here since the start ;)
Also kudos on your music choices. Pokemon, FTL and persona is great shit

🤯🤯🤯 over and over again ~golf clap~ I have to give you so much credit for this actually succinct analysis of Futurama’s first run.
Props on you for saying "axed" instead of "asked" for the whole video

This video is incredibly well done. Congratulations sir!
Just got done w/ your Simpsons videos a few days ago. Can’t wait to listen to this at work!

Unrelated to Futurama, but I love the use of Elder Scrolls music through the video
Futurama has a special place in my heart. Good stuff.
Keep this up man this channel is going to blow up sometime
The moment you said aksed instead of asked I knew I had to watch this in its entirely. Note, didn't watch it all yet but definitely will.

Hi, I'm Zapp Brannigan and you might remember me from botched missions such as the failed conquest of xenon 9, and the robot uprising of benus 12.
I found you because of your gravity falls video, I legit thought this was a channel with like 100k subscribers, the quality of your vids is amazing.

@1:55:28 Holy crap I thought I was hallucinating the RimWorld music.
"The distant year of 1999" Yeah, that was a quarter century ago, 25 years. I was 7 back then 😳
Still about halfway through your KOTH video that I’ve been listening to at work or relaxing at home. Adding this one to the list next 🤍
Please tell me this a part 1 - will you cover the movies and Comedy Central era?
Incredible work man
I'm hoping to cover more, and even some day get to the Hulu series once it gets cancelled (and revived) like this series tends to do.
This show is very much not the Simpsons in space.
6:10 RIMWORLD MUSIC! rimworld moment
must be weird to know people jus go abt their lives with your voice as the soundtrack to their activities

Started enjoying the video 25% more when the FTL music kicked in.
Why are you whispering, volumes on max and your mumbling are you trying to not wake me up or trying to keep me awake?
people keep commenting that they listen to my videos while they sleep
if i'm too loud i might wake someone up and then they'll turn off the video
I was incredibly interested in watching this video but i found the background music extremely distracting. Hopefully I can come across a way to remove the back ground music or for the creator to upload a version with out the background music.
now you also gotta do the revival years please ..
That's the plan...
eventually.
Only kings could hear the Persona music in the background at 51:00
Only kings can also hear the FTL music at 2 hours 1 min
Bounce, bounce, bounce!
Maplestory soundtrack respect
I thought Adult Swim was Futurama's original network?
