Very nice setup. I am in a similar setup with a cot in my topper, Rubbermaid tubs underneath. I cook outside under a Coleman pop up shelter. Easy to load everything in and out. I used the cheap puzzle mat from Amazon to cushion and insulate the floor. Look forward to seeing more videos.
Thanks for your comment! I also cook outside 90% of the time and prefer that if the weather permits. Since this video, I have arranged things indoors now so that I can cook in the back more easily if the weather is tough.... like 10 degrees or colder. Thanks again!
Thank you. Great information. I have been trying to figure out how to set mine up. I like the carpet idea. I have used a cot and usually cook in mine, but never thought of electric heat with a generator. Usually just get cold and start a later in the morning.

I don't microwave much, but I do vacuum seal a lot of food. Then I just drop a sealed bag in boiling water until it's hot. Just as good as the day you put it in there.

A two burner hot plate might be some help, Had Sandy on a short run yesterday she bumped a woodcock, We are l going to have a great spring and summer getting ready for this fall. really happy with the pup. Hey... glad to hear Sandy is fitting in and doing well! You've already got her on birds! Thanks for the idea of a hot plate... that's actually a good idea. I was also thinking of maybe a small microwave. In terms of the battery, if it is run all the way down it could take 4 or 5 hours to recharge if plugged into a wall or the generator. Recharging it with the 12v outlet in the truck would take longer. The way I'm using it the battery rarely gets below a 50% charge. Thanks for watching, and glad to hear about Sandy!
I use a very similar setup as you have. Last season I bought an Alpicool 12/120 volt refrigerator/freezer. It worked great at freezing birds on long trips and keeping frozen food froze. Another item I find very useful is an electric blanket. My electric heater went on the fritz on a trip to Kansas last season during a night got down to 18 degees. I was able to sleep comfortably that night with a beanie cap on to keep my head warm. Lastly I use a single burner induction cook top and have a jet boil for a backup and cook inside. Your idea with the curtains is brilliant. I have been using cut out reflectix. Nothing says, hey there's a guy camping in this parking lot like reflectix in the windows.

I had originally considered reflectix because it definitely insulates better than curtains (no insulation), but with the electric heater I was okay without the insulation. That’s great! For the up coming season I just purchased a BLUETTI power station. That way I don’t have to run a gas generator all night. There were a few places I wanted to camp but didn’t cause I thought they were going to be noise sensitive. ImIf you ever run across a guy in a ram truck (outfitted similar to yous) with a couple of German bird dogs, stop and say hi.
I just looked up the BLUETTI and they look promising. It's definitely a good idea to have a backup to the generator for a number of reasons. Also, definitely stop and say hi if you see me anywhere... with a trailer full of Brittanys.

The extra gas tank makes a big difference in terms of how I can use the generator. I went online and purchased a gas cap that would work with these Honda generators. Awesome video a concern I had - running your heater off of the power strip - I've seen way too many melted powerstrips - Might I suggest plugging it directly into the jackery?

The problem with the Jackery is that it won't run the heater all night, so I have to use the generator for the heater. But, I do need to come up with a safer option than the power strip. As I'm sitting here thinking about it, I could plug the heater directly into the extension cord coming from the generator and not use the power strip for that. Thanks again for your comment!

Thanks for watching the video! That gas tank is like a boat tank; however, I purchased one that was already set up to run with this generator... which did cost a little more. You don't have to pressurize the tank. The generator draws gas from the extra tank as needed. I have used all the gas out of the extra tank before and looked to find that the gas tank for the generator was still full.... meaning that the generator doesn't empty its own tank first before drawing from the extra tank. The generator starts drawing from the extra tank as soon as you start it. To get it started you just have to have some gas in both tanks (generator and extra tank). Thanks again!

I did some very cold truck camping last winter (close to 0), but that little heater kept it warm in there. I purchased it more than 20 years ago and don't really know much about it. However, it has 2 wattage options: 750 and 1500. I have never really needed to use it at 1500 to stay warm. In terms of using it with the Jackery... I have a 1500 Jackery and it will run the heater for a while, but it won't run all night. So, at nights I run a little generator outside for the heat and to re-charge the Jackery. That has worked pretty well for me. Another change that I've made to the truck since this video makes it easier to cook breakfast in the back without getting out. Last winter, this was one of the more difficult things for me--getting out to make breakfast when it was really cold. I made another video that shows those changes. Good luck with this, and definitely let me know how it goes if you have a chance. Thanks again!

Actually, that's a good question because it is confusing in the video. If I do another video I'll talk more about the dogs and the trailer. The dogs generally live out of the trailer on these trips; however, I have one dog (Hank) who stays in the back with me. He does stay in the trailer some, but he is usually in the back with me.
