I was only 15 years old, when I first heard this song back on Guam. That made a lasting impression in America. I love this country, sad to see how it is being torn apart by the Democrats and the big Tec. MEDIA. Vietnam Veteran.
Thank you for sharing, it is December 30th, 2022 as I listen to this .. Feeling nostalgic I am so glad to have found the many Glen Campbell shows on your page 🙏👍 Take care & God Bless 🙏
I think I took him for granted in his heyday. A tremendous musician and personality on all levels. Keep Glen and his family in your prayers, I've heard he is now in hospice. Bless you Glen for sharing with us all.
I always thought Elvis was my favorite singer and there will never be another Elvis, but I think I would have to choose Glen over Elvis. Glen is the most talented musician/singer that I have ever heard!!!
Carol Bowers! You get it! How many times I've been verbally beaten up for believing Glen's talent exceeded "The King's." I've been pilloried, slammed, dissed and called names that are not appropriate for polite society! Apparently it's against the rules to have more appreciation for Glen's talent than Elvis'. Yet I stand by my assessment of the two. I believe they had a lot in common in that their talent wasn't formally taught, but rather gifted to them from God. They had a kinship in their humble Southern roots, Glen's perhaps a bit more humble in that the Campbell family was said to live in grinding poverty. I do feel like Elvis' loss of his twin was something that subconsciously affected him all his life. But both found a way out of what might have been a bleak future because of their musical gifts, and the world is better for it. I remember when Elvis appeared on Ed Sullivan. He got my mother and me both all shook up! I was 9 and Mother was 28. I would imagine if my grandmother had been in the room, she'd have been shook up too! LOL. He was flashy and sexy and had a great voice. And drop dead gorgeous. There were a few Elvis songs that I liked (my fave is "Mean Woman Blues"), but in my extensive collection of vinyl, I don't have one Elvis record. When he made his comeback with the white jumpsuit and the scarves, I was already over him. I much preferred the early Elvis. I also remember when Glen Campbell became a household name with "Gentle on My Mind" and "By the Time I Get to Phoenix." I liked the songs and could sing along with every lyric, but I didn't pay that much attention to him. I never bought a Glen Campbell record either. (I have mostly early R&B, country and doo-wop era music.) I started noticing Glen after he passed. On August 8, 2017, I jumped on RUclips out of curiosity to search for Glen Campbell songs and WOW! Was I amazed at the body of work I found by him! I was wondering how the heck I didn't know more about his talent since I'd lived through the entire era of his public life. My BFF told me that she'd gone to some of his concerts and that they were outstanding. Said he was an amazing performer. She never invited me to go with her, but in all honesty, I probably would have said no if she had. I don't like crowds that much, and I didn't have much interest in Glen Campbell. Sheesh! What an idiot I was! Anyway, I'm making up for lost time now. Thank God there's a lot of GC videos here on RUclips, but I do lament that I never got to see him in concert. And I especially lament that it took his death for me to rediscover him.
@@Squee_Dow I feel the exact same way, and wish that I would have had the wisdom to have made it to one of his concerts when I was young! Another concert I would have loved to have gone to would have been John Denver's, he died much too young and was an extraordinary Talent as well!
Glen once said that the compliment which meant most to him was winning Guitar Player magazine's "Best Guitarist" poll. A true natural musician/performer. Thanks for posting.
Great entertainer and family man!
Glen's singing and guitar picking were neck and neck, meaning he was a virtuoso extraordinaire at both. The greatest! Thanks for posting.
He’s one In a million
