It’s been a while since I’ve last flown Spirit Airlines, so finding myself in south Florida with a need to fly back home to San Diego was the perfect excuse to reacquaint myself with those obnoxiously-awesome yellow airplanes. Not that I was particularly looking forward to it - but I was curious to see if their Big Front Seat was as still as good of a value as it was several years ago (the last time I tried one).
This is footage from Spirit Airlines flight number 619 from Fort Lauderdale (FLL) to San Diego (SAN) with a brief stop in Houston (IAH). I was seated in 2A for both legs of this 5 hour journey, and the aircraft registration was N684NK.

"However, I'll save my profanity for later because this is a Spirit Airlines review and it still has the potential to unravel in the most horrific way possible." That line killed me LMAO 💀💀💀💀
😂 I’m actually kind of disappointed that things didn’t unravel.
J Adachi I miss the old days of Piedmont Airlines and Boeing 727

what if your delta flight gets cancelled and you get rebooked on spirit
@@kanyegaming5296 *U N S T O N K S*
What if your Spirit flight and Delta flight get cancelled and you dont get rebooked?
@@Mentally_Chill most likely outcome. since spirit isn't going to rebook you on anything except maybe greyhound.
Tanki Violator Reports *Gets rebooked on allegiant*
Not stonks :(
I flew Spirit for the first time last week in an economy seat from LAS to IAH. I didn't have an issue with the flight at all. Who cares if the seats are cramped when I'm paying at $60 for plane ticket halfway across the country.
Same I didn’t experience anything bad and for some reason...
Didn’t feel Hungry
I think Spirit gets a worse rep than it deserves. It is the bottom of the barrel bare bones carrier. People see "oh hey cheap flight!" Then expect the service of a brand carrier like United or American, which you're simply not going to get. So they will proceed to whine how bad it sucks. If you go in knowing full well what you're going to get it's really not that bad.
lenoat702 spent $90 for a flight from LA to JFK that I booked the day before the flight on Spirit. Yeah, I don’t really care if I have to stand the whole flight. $90 is 100% worth it for going literally across the country. When I did the same thing with American the week before Christmas is was $800
Exactly
I guess you travel with no luggage?
Someone: ~has good Spirit Airline experience~
The rest of humanity: *Impossible*
Wumpis it happened with me. PA to Florida
WAIT!! In the first minute or so, you show a yellow Spirit Airlines plane. At 2:00 there is a gray Spirit Airlines plane. So what is the livery color for Spirit Airlines. Yellow, Gray, who knows...who cares?
Skywalker7897 Their yellow livery is new, the grey livery is old, but they still have some planes like it.
also i had a good experience with spirit.
I just had a great experience flying from San Juan to Baltimore
Anyone who spends $300 on a one way spirit flight didn’t buy their ticket right lol.
Kenisha Maxie Exactly! You can get round trips for $50-$100 if you do it right
Gavin Hanson Facts! I’m going to Detroit and Miami in one week. I spent less than $200 for both round trip tickets combined. 😂
He paid for a “premium seat”. Which explains why his ticket price was higher.
@@inomad I booked a roundtrip non stop from Philly to Vegas with the big front seat for $280, so yeah $300 one way is pretty rough
@@Chris-by1su can you please explain how you did this? My husband & I are taking trips this year and I'm looking on saving $$$
spirit is not the same airline it was 2 years ago. their performance and customer service is night and day better. honestly the only bad thing is the passengers
I went on as spirit flight when I was like 8 (so 2009-10ish), and I gotta say what I remember back then seems way worse than now.
I flew on Spirit from Houston to Chicago and back on New Years Eve (2017) and it was fine. Good for short trips.
doesn't seem any worse than the other majors as they sell budget economy options and attract the same clientele.
Crying baby’s for days
I used to fly Spirit all the time back in 2014-2016 for work (atleast once every other week). I never had a problem with anything. I mean yes, I had bad days with the front desk or flight delays but it was pretty routine compared to other airlines. I now mostly fly American and It's been the same experience as I had on Spirit.
I actually loved the gray Spirit livery more than the yellow, as well as the brief appearance of that retro-looking Jet Blue plane. I'd add the $11 onto the $297 calling it a $308 ticket (itin), but that's me.
Good point John! $308 for a transcon Big Front Seat is still a pretty good deal IMHO. And yeah - I much prefer the old silver “pixel” livery as well!
Gonna tell my kids this was Jeff Bezos
ganna tell my kids this was ninja
Flying a spirit airline
Great review! I have learned to take my own food on board. I either make it myself or purchase it at a supermarket and put it in my carry-on cooler bag. I have learned to pack extra so that I can share it with my seatmate if they start drooling all over the armrest! I admit that I feel guilty eating next to someone on a long flight if they don't have anything to eat. Yes, it's weird but that's just me! Thanks for your review and wishing you blue skies and smooth flights.
That’s a really good idea John! Very kind and thoughtful as well. You can be my seatmate anytime. 😄👍🏻
Haha you’re a hero we don’t deserve:p
Your a good person John. Wishing you good karma and someone pays it forward. Happy Holidays and a great 2020 to you.
You almost made me to fly Spirit... almost
Great stuff!
Dang it Peter - does that mean that I’m gonna have to fly Spirit again in order to convince you? 🤔😂😂
Key word *almost*
I have severe neuropathy and can’t afford 1st class. I visit my family in Puerto Rico at least twice a year. These big front seats are a life saver, they allow me to travel with minimal pain. I can fly in the big front seat from FL to PR for about $99 each way which is a steal (seat price included, ticket was $49 and seat was $50).
Gone are the days of me being an airline snob , Spirit works , get there safe for cheap .. works for me 🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️🤷🏾♀️
I fly Spirit all the time, never had a problem. And yes, the Big Front Seats are the way to go!
for a ryanair flight, that chicken and rice could be 200% of the ticket price lmao
It could be the editing or your voice but I can watch your entire video without skipping. Im subbing! I skipped thru a 3 min spirit airline review, then watched yours. PERFECTION ACHIEVED 🧚🏾♀️
ELEVEN DOLLARS??? FOR THAT?????
I think of all the videos I've seen on Spirit, I think your video have convinced me to give this airline a shot! Good stuff!
Thanks! Buuuuut - was it enough to convince you to fly them exclusively? 😆
Its actually seat 1f which is the window seat. and some flight attendants will stop you if they see you charging your electronics. However just put your bags there after take off and keep it hidden and no worries 😀
I recently had a very good experience on Spirit from Tampa to Baltimore. I bought a soda and a snack at the shop before departure and was given a free cup of ice. I almost shit myself when he said it was free for a cup of ice. I recommend buying a drink and taking it on board after you go through security.
Bro you spent $15 on that seat upgrade. It’s wider and more leg room, you’ve got all you paid for.
The big front seat upgrade is way more than $15. It varies depending on the length of the flight. For flights over 2 hours it’s $50, so he spent a total of $100 for that seat.
@@daledonaldson4122 It's Worth it
Amazing staff. Love the storm clouds and the sun afterwards.
I was like 👀 the whole time worried that they were going to shut down the airport and cancel the flight. 😂 The sunset afterwards was worth the stress though!
I've flown spirit twice. First time was DFW to Denver and had no problems at all other than noisy passengers. The second time was DFW-ORD and back and both of those flights were delayed, but it wasn't a huge deal. As long as you know what everything cost ahead of time there shouldn't be any surprises. And make sure to check-in on their phone app so you don't have to pay at the counter. I think I'm going to test out the Big Front Seat on my upcoming trip to Cancun. Wish me luck!
Awesome review! I was just in FLL last Tuesday for the B6 NEO inaugural flight. Seeing this video put me right back in FLL and my horrific 7 hour sit for my return to Kennedy 😂
Who came here after watching Trevor Noah's spirit airlines roast 😂😂
Very entertaining as usual. Thanks for posting. My dad flew SAN-FLL via BWI on Southwest recently because he forgot JetBlue had a nonstop.
Thanks James! Yeah, I’ve done that nonstop FLL-SAN flight on JetBlue before, so I’d figure I take a gamble on Spirit. 😆
Nice video love the dedication and editing!
Thanks Jayden! These edits seem to be taking longer and longer... 😅
5:04 coolest cloud ever
I just tried the big front seat cross country and loved it. It was very comfy and just steps away from the bathroom. I enjoyed the 2nd row maybe a bit more cause I could put my foot up wedged between the window and the seat in front of me.
First time flying in a few days with this airline & u make me feel much better
Loved this video! First plane vlog i actually watched all the way through!
Thanks James! You were waiting for the profanity, weren’t you? 😆😆
Idk but I went on 2 spirit airlines and the only problem was the leg room not kidding. The flight attendants were friendly and welcoming and the cabin was clean which I did not expect
As long as the airline gets me to where I need to be by when I need to be there is how I judge them. No the seats don’t recline, but a few inches doesn’t matter.
Agreed. If you read their website they tell you their seats don't recline and they tell you its going to be crowded. Love Spirit as I flew 100,000 miles a year and got tired of the so-called food and good service. A number of months ago Spirit hired the Disney Company to help them with their customer service and you will see a definite difference.
This was actually dope. Thank you. I would've used colorful profanity just because 🤣
Hi Scott!
Another great and enjoyable video as always :)
Was always curious about Spirit’s Big Front Seat. It sure beats those small and tight regular economy seats! Was at least expecting a free drink or something, but otoh it is understandable coming from a LCC :)
Always love the approach into San Diego, right past downtown. Lovely!
Regards,
Brendan
Spirit has come a long way. NOR to LAS big front seat was very nice. but LAS TO FLL Lmao half the plane was drunk & loud. I loved it 😂
Great video! I always have a laugh when I watch them. Very entertaining! Loved the Air Canada Rouge comment! 🇨🇦
Haha Thanks Anita! I couldn’t help but to take a jab at Air Canada Rouge while I had the opportunity. 😆
Very good video my friend. Phenomenal voice for narration. Great tempo. Great energy. This is excellent. I really appreciate this and I hope to see more. Very well done🙏
Genius and very funny too. Wonderful.
Honestly, your intro and b-roll is by far my favorite!
Thanks Jay! I probably spend more time than I should on that kind of stuff, but to me, that’s the fun part!
Glad to see you went through IAH, my childhood home airport, still i go through IAH at least once a year
Your commentary is amazing :)
Thanks! 😄 Still feel like I could improve so much though...
Cool video SANspotter
I'm New to the channel and i live in San Diego born and raised can't wait to see more videos from you soon .. i enjoyed the video.
Have debated flying Spirit. Nice to see your review
I love your reviews!
Thanks so much - I enjoy creating them! 👍🏻
I love your videos, it makes me feeling traveling.
Thank you! 😃 Your videos are really good as well! If you do a travel video, I’ll do a cooking video... 😆
Really?? Please remember this!😁
Uh oh. 😬😂
Loving your reviews Scott - I'm binge watching lol!
Just a word of warning - the videos get a lot worse the farther back into the catalog you go. 😂
SANspotter 😁😂
Great video! You are a brave soul to fly Spirit coast-to-coast, but, I'm glad that you had a good experience!
Haha Thanks! The things I do for video content... 😬😆
@@sanspotter You suffer so we don't have to :)
Nice review
Awesome video man liked
Thanks so much! 🙏🏻
It’s always nice to see non Floridians react to those storms
No such thing as storms in San Diego
Hey my home airport, great video as well!
Thanks! It was nice to fly through FLL again! 👍🏻
I didn't know that Maynard James Keenan likes reviewing airlines now. 😁
I legit thought it was him when I saw the thumbnail
My beef would be not having head TV's.
ya wtf same
I fly United from Denver to ft Lauderdale often and it’s a 3hour and 30 minutes flight with no TV’s and a lot of turbulence. Going back it’s 4 hours with no TV’s and a lot of turbulence. I wish they had TV’s
Delta has spoiled me
Pretty good airline to fly for short trips! Nice trip report.
Thanks! This was my first ever long(ish) flight with them, and I’d say that they are decent (and competitive) on long routes too!
Very nice video. Thumb up. Almost convinced me to book a Spirit flight. Almost.
Thanks! You’re the second person I almost convinced - please don’t make me fly Spirit again to convince you all the way! 😬😂
Great review of a LCC! I'm retiring in a week...so I may just have to settle for those "Big Front Seats"! 😮 I think I could survive a cross country trip as well. 👍
Thanks Erik! Settling for a Big Front Seat isn’t a bad thing at all. Just remember to bring snacks. 😆 Congratulations on the retirement!! 🎉
@@sanspotter thank you Scott! I know there are worse things...like maybe sitting in the back! 🤣
Keep up the good work!
Thanks Joel - will do!
Love the humor 😂
Thanks Adrian! 😂👍🏻
Keep it up!
Will do Tom! Thanks!
Thanks for the video, flying Spirit in a week for the first time and I'm a little nervous about it but you made me more comfortable after watching this, appreciate the great views and information about the airline. Just wish you would have left the word death out at the end, (lol) other than that you get a like from me. A 321!
Great video! I like to pretend I'm on Simon & Simon when I step out of SAN. Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a building used for exterior shots in the Gaslamp and the annoyance of the driver behind me as I photographed it at a green light. THAT was profanity.
Hahaha! 😂 On a side note, I never realized that Simon and Simon was based in San Diego! 😮 I didn’t watch many episodes as a kid, but now I’m think I’m going to have to check it out...
Great video dude! You remembered me my “long” flight from FLL to Lima, Peru last year in the same seat. I got used to fly on wide size aircrafts to Chile or Peru from USA, but this time I flew for the first time on Spirit I was rarely scary to flying on a 320 long flight crossing the equator to South America, out of nowhere that flight was one the best quite and relaxing fly in my entire life.
I have done the same rout, but in a Big Front Seat. Avianca now has direct wide-bodies MIA-LIM and all of Copa's aircraft are the same as Spirits fleet, but with new lie-flat seats in Business.
Spirit Airlines is an amazing airline (provided you fly BFS on flights longer than 3 hours).
I kind of agree - a lot of people hate on them, but every Spirt flight I’ve ever had has been good. 👍🏻
I have the same Burberry glasses, very nice!
P.s they offer hot water for free. So bring some ramen, or noodles and make your own "Meal" :)
Awww awesome tip thanks👍
thanks mr dickie
Nope. I had to pay $3 for a cup of water.
I’m a fan , I like that your honest , sooo I will subscribe to your channel, and yes this is my first time seeing your vlog .... woohoo 🎉
Great Video!!
Thanks so much! 🤟🏻😎
1:57 i see the retro jet jet blue plane
One of the best looking liveries out there right now! 👍🏻
@@sanspotter one of my favorite
Best video
Thanks bro. Thanks for not condemning "our" hometown (FLL) airline Spirit. Actually, funny, I am a locomotive engineer for TriRail that you took from MIA to FLL. Thanks for trying us, as you are right, it's a steal and it works! We haul a ton of flight crews for both MIA and FLL and they also, LOVE US! It's just easy and we run pretty much on-time. As for your experience with Spirit, I'm glad you flew with them in the Big Seats. I do as well. That airline has come a long way from their early days, but heck, the Big Seats are kinda a steal as well. All airlines have their horror stories, but if you know how to fly Spirit and aren't expecting Emirates First Class service, they work. My advice is always either bring your own food onboard or grab an overpriced sandwich for the haul. Once again, Thanks for riding TriRail and maybe we'll see you on another one of our "not so luxurious" commuter trains! LOL. Safe travels my friend. JB/ Miami FL
I fly Sprit 115 and 116...great! Even went though O'Hare to BWI on the airline!
Really liked the music in this. Where can I find it? Great review, funny and entertaining per usual!
LOL...cool video!
So nice to see Florida in your video. I love our storms. They are a daily thing. They're so beautiful. That guy did have a cool backpack.
You’re so lucky to have storms like that on a regular basis - it hardly ever rains here in Southern California! 😕
@@sanspotter Oh I also forgot to say I loved seeing the cruise ships on take off. I have sailed out of that port a few times. I love cruising.
Yeah, that was pretty cool! I didn’t even notice those ships until I was editing this footage. I’d love to take a cruise out of FLL someday!
Wow being on an almost empty cabin seems very fun. I hope I can experience that someday and run around the cabin at the same time lol.
Believe it or not, in over 1 million miles of flying, that’s only the second time it’s ever happened to me. It’s kinda neat! 👍🏻
Upgraded to the big seats a few years ago on flight from Tampa to Los Angeles with a stop in Dallas I believe. I think it was something like $100 more total onto the ticket price. Absolutely worth it. Tons of room and big comfy seat. I only flew them this one time so I won't toot their horn too much but all my flights were on time and I had no issues. It seemed like most of the complaining I heard at the gate were in regards to bags and costs. But honestly these are things you should be well aware of before booking a flight on any airline.
Definitely! Seems most of the people complaining about Sprit are those who aren’t aware of the fees. It’s one of the best airlines in the US as far as I’m concerned! 👍🏻
@@sanspotter I've heard some bad stories about delays and things with them, but thankfully I didn't experience that.
I flew Spirit form EWR to LAS non stop in the big front seat and had a very pleasant experience. The Big front seat is worth the extra money.
Look forward to a seeing you travel through my home airport of Dublin😁
Thanks! I can’t wait! 🇮🇪😎👍🏻
Yea Spirit not bad at all and I love the livery
If there’s one thing Spirt does right, it’s liveries. The old silver and gray pixel livery is one of my all time favorites of any airline in history. 👌🏻
The A321/A320 has less big front seats than the A319? That makes no sense. Awesome flight review!
I’m not totally sure I understand it either - but it’s true!
I believe the A320s and A321s were refurbished to contain fewer big seats as Spirit often flies with many of them empty.
I like Spirit a lot. Never had an issue. But anything longer than a 2 hour trip and you definitely need the big front seat
Am I the only one that loves these Airport Videos? Or Just Airports and Flying In General???
Ive taken frontier and spirit for the past few years on my flights from PHL to MCO and back. For the price and a 2.5 hr flight, i cant complain. Im 6 foot and stocky however so my legs the last 30 mins of the flignt always feel it. For my trips from PHL to California i always take Alaska/Virgin and now im trying Jet Blue for the first time.
I just flew Spirit RT PHX-DFW. I didn't have any complaints. They even upgraded me to the "Big Seats" on my way to DFW which was pretty nice. Not bad for a 2 hour flight.
Nice video, just a FYI, if you choose seat 1D the 110V used for the vacuum is right there, I have used that to charge my devices in flight and the FA’s did not seem to mind
Wow, that’s a really good tip - I had no idea. Thanks!! 👍🏻👍🏻
SANspotter anytime, look forward to you future trips
They have stopped allowing it, and have removed them from their aircraft. The voltage is too high and can cause a electrical fire. They use battery operated vacuum's now.
But, WiFi and outlets are on the way.
Along For The Ride oh wow, that is a great update, thank you for sharing g
Btw those storm clouds are usual in florida there much like a regular storm so don't be concerned about it
I’m flying spirit for the first time soon. I got a big front seat because I need the extra room. It was the least expensive option all around for getting a flight with a big enough seat and is the only airline with a nonstop flight to where I’m going so I’d say I’m satisfied and I don’t expect anything lavishing. It’s just traveling it doesn’t have to be lavishing.
At 4:09 was a wasted opportunity to say ‘Houston, we DON’T have a problem’
As a light traveler, I only carry one computer bag. The front big seat is always my first choice. You get first class experience and the drink is very cheap to buy in-flight. You just don't get special treatment like welcome drink, meal service, or priority boarding. Spirit airline's Airbus fleet is very young so safety shouldn't be your concern.
When our flight was delayed for 14 hours, Spirit did not cancel on us, instead they sent us an empty Airbus with 5 passengers only. We had the entire flight to us and the flight attendant offers us free drink and food. The flight attendant was dancing and it was one of my best Spirit flight ever.
Spirit has improved enough to where I actually do want to fly them just to test the waters even if it’s a work trip instead of a vacation
I always keep getting this video recommended
You should have said “Houston we have a solution”
Spirit has to be the worst experience I've had. I flew from Tampa to Hartford, CT. Never again!
Yoooo I have the same glasses as you😂😂
it's always a treat when a new video comes out! Thanks :) ps. what model backpack is that? I was checking out The North Face for a good travel backpack
You’re very welcome! It is indeed a North Face backpack - however, it’s like 5 years old now so it likely not in production anymore. I do need to get a new one soon. 🤔
@@sanspotter they hold up pretty well! I was looking both at the Jester and the Borealis classic. I have to make my mind up before my bext trip haha
Those storms scare me. 😱 I still haven't flown through a storm and I never want to lol. I kinda like the bright yellow and black livery. I never would have thought their economy seats would rate higher than Air Canada! 😂👏
Flying through Florida storms is scary stuff! 🙈😮 Some of the scariest flights of my life have been while taking off or landing in Florida during a storm - it’s not fun at all. But yeah - the seats are better than Air Canada Rouge! 😆👍🏻
Really? I flew from ORD to LAX and I stay there for 6 HOURS in economy class, it wasn’t to bad as I though but it’s really boring
Chicago to Los Angeles is a 3.5 hour flight, why were you on board for six hours?
I can’t believe you flew Spirit on such a long flight. I gave you credit for better taste
Haha! I was in desperate need of video content for the channel. 😆
Lol ur a SAVAGE damn your such a good RUclipsr
Great Vid! I am also flying soon! But it is from messy LAX
Thanks! LAX is really fun though (so many interesting airlines) - hope you have a good flight!
Appreciate it man!
I am flying Alaska Airlines:
LAX-JFK
EWR-JFK
I've flown Spirit several times and will traveling with them next month. I like Spirit!
H. Martinez is it like every airline?
Right Martinez! Idk why people give Spirit such a hard time. Look, I can fly from new orleans to fr. Lauderdale direct, round trip for a hundred bucks or so. Never an issue. I only travel solo, so a backpack works. Planes are clean, enough legroom and I save money. I like Spirit and will continue to fly.
Flyin’ in the big blue front seat
