Tinman it's awesome that you share all of your knowledge, there's not many people that want to share their knowledge or that have the knowledge to share. Thanks for all you do. Be kind, give love!!
First of all, your style and honesty is refreshing and welcome! I really feel like I am right there with you like a friend watching you do this work. I learn something every single time. In my opinion, I don't think you need to change one thing about how you're doing this! 👍👍👍 I think the 590 is an awesome saw for the money. Not this current year, but in years past, Echo dealers have offered sales where you could land that saw with a 20-in bar for just a little over $300 US. I'm sure it's going up a little bit, but I think that is an amazing deal when you compare that to what you would pay for a 362!
Just picked one of these up today. Really excited to run it tomorrow. So far impressed with how strong it feels, seems to be built well. Excited for the series!
Keep an eye on the oiler- with a 24" bar and the oiler turn fully up my 3 month old 590 barely gets enough oil to keep the bar from burning/wearing. By comparison I have the oiler on my 400 set about midway and the chain gets fully coated with an 18" bar.
the 590 has a limited coil the 620 does not .the carb on the 620 is different than 590 .the piston is a one ring on the 590 2 ring on 620 and jug is also different . the 620 has metal side covers and an aluminum handle 590 all plastic .my opinion spend the extra 150 get the 620 pro saw.
My 620Pw ran like crap till i done the muff mod and pulled the plugs on the carb.. tuned it up and now its running a28 inch sugihara with Stilh chain.. Banshee!
Echo uses A218 Chainsaw Guide Bars T218 Intenz mount - Carlton mount - 29 Black & Decker Chainsaw Guide Bars Echo Chainsaw Guide Bars Maruyama Chainsaw Guide Bars Redmax Chainsaw Guide Bars Hope this helps. I have two CS590 and can't wait to see how this works out. Great Channel.
Inspiring video, I got a cs580 husky chinease replica deleted base gasket ported ,made a ram stack between carb and air cleaner and after a few attempts converted the silencer to an expansion chamber great power increase it was 3.5 bhp and now feels like my sthil ms362c at 4.8 bhp.inspired by this site.
I’m so glad I found this channel. I am learning a lot. I’m actually sacrificing my cheapo craftsman China saw to learn the ins and outs of porting. Tin man have you ever seen an intake port that was triangular towards back of port? I’m sure on how to grind on it.. you should do a cheapo saw series, I would love to see you rip into one of those supposed 62cc eBay saws and see what you can do to it.
Found an anomalous port on one of my china saws as well! Love the idea you're pitching but couldn't picture him doing it....the china saws, sometimes they're good I mean my go-to climbsaw is a $135 one that i got over 2yrs ago, though I know others get comparable models off amazon/ebay and don't have the same luck (though I do hear more good reports than bad, I mean at the end of the day a chainsaw is a pretty simple machine so it's not so hard to make a decent one even cheaply insofar as cost of production, my $135 unit has nearly as nice build-quality as my echo's, like tons of metal female slots where other companies use plastic etc) Thinking of ordering an extra cylinder for said $135 saw so I can test my own porting #'s (after copying Tinman's 590 #'s for my new 590!), the cylinders are barely $20 for that clonesaw (a g2500 platform clone, love the thing :D ) so figure I'll do multiple portings til I stop gaining/lose power, then know my #'s / order another cylinder and have the 'best #'s' for a "work-ready" version of this saw, will definitely document this if/when I get to it!!
I highly recommend upgrading to a Red Beard Saws filter. The factory 590 filter is not very impressive. It was one of the first upgrades I did to mine. Well worth it. I pulled the limiter caps, did a muffler mod and threw on a RBS filter. Once broke in, it pulls a 24" bar with no issues.
Thank you Tinman, for putting so much time into your channel. I too have learnt a huge amount from your videos. I hope one day a husqvarna 359 comes your way. I would love to see what you do with it.
I have a great idea for the channel. I am new to working on saws. I have been doing tons of research. It’s hard to find pro saws in my area but the echos are readily available. I really wanted a pro saw and I am pretty sure the cs490 can be converted into the cs501p I believe the parts are interchangeable. Also I believe the cs590 Timberwolf can be converted into the cs620p. Which is basically what you are doing with this one. So If you could prove that this would work on both saws it would be a great option for people. We could buy the farm saws and upgrade them into pro saws. It would really help people out that are on a tight budget or can’t find a pro saw.
I'm not sure why anyone would convert a 590 to 620, I did the math myself, and as Tinman said, parts aren't cheap in Canada and it was cheaper to sell my 590 and get a 620. My biggest complaint about the 590 was that cheapo spur sprocket. after the 6th de-chain I said screw it. You need a clutch drum to convert to rim sprocket so that plus the sprocket ran well north of $100. There's zero options for parts in Canada other than the dealer, if I'm wrong, I'll be grateful if you correct me. Consider the outer bumper also cost a bit, it just didn't make sense since the 620 has a lot of other things on it, Tinman said clutch cover and carb, but there is also the double ring piston, bigger ports, different timing, carb, muffler, limiter, and aluminum bar.
Love this! I've been running a CS-590 for about a year. Thanks for the close-up shots! Looking forward to more work on this saw! I might do some of the same mods you're putting on. Also, thanks for all your detailed explanations. Helps me a lot with my own tinkering.
Interesting build, I think a ton of interest in these saws comes from their price point and availability. They seem to respond extremely well from just minimal mods.
Good info guys. I just bought a CS-590 yesterday.Haven't used it yet. You guys got me thinking... gonna take it back and see if I can upgrade to the 620 PW. You gents have way more information than the dealer! He told me the internals were the same (in his defense, it's more of a mower shop than a saw shop). Tinman, awesome vids! Tons of good information, great intel from the comment section. If you want a Boss 302, don't start 289 2bbl!
I’m pretty sure we all fumble. Love the Jets Shirt! I haven’t lived in the city in many years. But having been raised in San Jose, I’m a life long Sharks fan. But as long as it’s hockey it’s all good with me. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us. And thank Mrs. Tinman for sharing you with the RUclips community.
Here in scandinavia you could only see stihl and husky dealers but Echo dealer numbers are growing fast and i´m starting to see why. I had my first 50cc Echo for a year now and i gave her a hard test through hard winter in logging. She run just beautifull, no matter how much there were coldness and snow she ran. Build reminds me alot of husky 242 and 246 (late 90´s saws) I believe Echo501sx is Shindaiwa model in origin. Either way i´m stoked for getting another Echo product and soon.
Echo has great warranty terms. I prefer echo pole saws and top handle saws over Stihl and husky, echo power poles came with reinforced shafts long before Stihl dead, when you fully extended Stihl poles the thing wobbled like a mofo. Glad to see Echo becoming more prevelant and competitive
Wow that saw here in Ohio is 399$, I have that bought it at a Stihl dealer, he told me that was the best bang for the buck. I'm hoping you will run it stock then with the new carb and coil so we can see the difference, and maybe a easy upgrade for us, muffler coil carb.. 🤔
I've got an Echo cs600p that I had work sawed by Mastermind about six or eight years ago. The cs590 and 600 are both awesome options. Especially if you get them woken up. This thing is gonna be awesome!
Tinman, the top end and piston are also diff. Porting on the 620 from factory is diff as well as having a 2 ring piston. 620 carb also has a fixed h jet but it can be plugged. Adding the 620 full wrap is a nice upgrade . Look at the red beard saws website for the upgraded air filter
Toss the timing wheel on it, right? I’d love to hear your thinking about where you would want to take it... there’s a bunch of guys who that would really help. 👍😁. I think it’s the same as the husky small mount bar but I’m not positive on the oiler hole??? Is that 176D or whatever...some Mac, husky, some Poulan...??? They were like $400 here and the 620p was $550 via a dealer buddy so I don’t know the actual retail in the US... the 620 has a little higher exhaust port roof in my mind... the 590 would appreciate some correction with it’s nice new unlimited coil...😂😂😂. Love the channel... I love that you get the shot of the bolts because that’s what you would want to see. My hands shake horrible some days so I don’t make videos... it’s awesome to have you making videos !! When there’s a guy with a question it’s super nice to be able to say check out the TinMan’s video about it... they learn from that one and also gain access all your others. Your cutaway video to help explain how the transfer ports work is just an awesome resource! You are really helping a lot of people with your work here! And it’s stellar for a guy that’s built some absolutely ripper saw’s to be laughing about having to hunt for the screws, being a little scatterbrained too sometimes and being just a normal guy who loves powersaw’s too...
I'm thinking about getting one. They advertise that you need a chain 3 drive links longer than normal for the bar. Do you have one, is that correct. Thinking about getting one so I can swap bars between my cs-590, ms441 and farmertec g660 kit.
I have a stock CS400. Gets me by most of the time. If not, I break out the stock 576xp. Love your channel. Always great vids. Thank You. Take Care, Stay Safe and Be Kind...
The 620 has a different cylinder with more aggressive porting and a 2 ring piston instead of one. Also better bar,rim sprocket, and mag clutch cover. Here in the US the 590 is $400 and the 620 starts at $549 so it’s worth it to buy the 620.
It definitely is, when you consider that to 620p carb and coil he added to the 590 in this vid come up to be more than $150, which is more than the cost difference between the two saws.
I have a echo cs590. That came from Mitch Weber. It’s not a full port job. Says cylinder modded for better flow. And Venturi valve increased It’s insane. Pulls chain faster and better than my holzfforma g372xp
I had a 590 I like the saw. I did a muffler mod and a base gasket delete. Made a difference. All I did for the mm was open up the inside a little bit and open up the exhaust exit and made a custom exhaust deflector. I didn’t like the exhaust going at a 45 that’s why I made a new on that came straight out and was a bit taller. It would keep up with a 362. It might out run a 362 with a bigger carb and unlimited coil. I suggest you do a free power mods before you put on the coil and carb. It would be interesting to see the two different stages of power and how it behaves.
I got a 590 from a co worker for 100 bucks not running but I may do this upgrade I'm a home owner type but I ran into situation where it bogged down in the cut great vid 😁
I just wanted to say I have a 620pw and I put a rubber o-ring between the air filter and that plastic piece because it will suck in some dust so I did that to lengthen the life of the saw .. other than that it's been a great powerful saw and took about 100hours of break in running time for it to really open up and it now screams..
My 266 finally played out after 25+ years of firewood collecting. Cylinder was gone, multiple issues. I bought a 620 echo. Tinman, I have to say, I was beyond impressed. It's a bad azz saw. I just didn't like the new Huskies. Wasn't a money thing. The 620 is great saw nd destined to be a classic. Much like the 266.
Just bought a Stihl ms271...cuts good but may regret not checking out the Echo cs590 a little cheaper...this Farm Boss is a big pain to start when hot after sitting 30 minutes, seems flooded but plug is dry.
Hey, Tinman!!!! Great video. I'm following this one. I have 2 of these. I bought both with scored pistons. I believe cold seized. I put a new oem piston in one, the cylinder cleaned up decent. Base gasket deleted it. I believe it ended up with .019 squish. Runs great. It was my first attempt at a 2 cycle small engine as a 30 year diesel mechanic. It runs GREAT! The info in this video is what I was thinking of doing with the 2nd one. I'm thinking 2 ring 620 piston, porting it and making an Ironhorse pipe for it. I'll be watching and planning, it will probably be a next winter project along with a Husqvarna 268 that will be getting 272xp top end. Other differences in 590 and 620 that I know of are. 1 590 has spur sprocket, 620 has rim sprocket. 2 620 has aluminum handle, 620 pw has wrap handle. 590 has plastic handle. 3 I believe porting is different. Keep up the good work. I'm glad that I found your channel.
Would love to see you do a build on a 361p/355t echo I just purchased the 361p and there are several improvements to be done slowly trying to figure them all out
Have you thought about just swapping the coil and carb onto it after running stock before porting to see if there’d be any gains just with those mods and the muff mod?
I was wondering the same thing. What type of gain you could get just swapping parts. Modular saws were an idea I was kicking around. Like, build your own.
Wow...what RPM is Caleb looking for on this thing? They’re 13K from the factory. Also, Echo calls their coils “digital” coils, not sure why though...probably just a fancy way of saying limited like you were saying.
I can't wait to see how this build ends up, and how much it wakes up after porting. I've got a 620 on order and was tempted to get the 590 instead. But for the extra money I thought the unlimited coil, aluminum handlebar, and magnesium clutch cover were worth the extra money............and now I find out that the carb is better too! I feel good about my decision now for sure. It should be a dandy little saw.
It arrived yesterday and I ran the first tank through it today. I pulled out the carb plugs and opened up the exterior muffler baffle, then tuned it in wood. It’s a great saw so far, and obviously isn’t broken in yet. It’s got a 24” bar and pulls a full comp chain through 20”+ Ponderosa very quickly.......... I cut a few cookies off the end of a 32” log also, which was handy for tuning. I’m still a touch rich, but will keep breaking it in like that. IMO it’s a perfect firewood saw. I’ve got some old Homelites, a Husky 372XPW, and an Echo 501P, so I really didn’t need this 620, but I’m glad I bought it.
Can’t wait to see how it runs with the mods. No one on RUclips has a good CS590 vid so this will be a first. Would be awesome to see it runs stock compared to modded too. Subscribed for the upcoming videos. 👍
Take the inner deflector and screen outta the top of the muffler and remove the plastic divider outta the air filter. She'll move alot more air and with the new parts she'll be a monster 60cc's.
The exchange rate is $.80 USD to $1.00 CAD. I sell that saw retail for $399, so $500-600 sounds right in your area...compared to the 620p at $559+ I’d say the Timberwolf is an awesome buy in to a great all around saw. And you’re right, the 590 has a plastic clutch cover, plastic handles, a smaller carb and a limited ignition. It also has a few differences in the fuel lines and handle assy, but overall it’s very similar. My only major contention with both of those saws is they integrate too much into the engine case itself. I’ve had a few come in with broken ears where the clutch brake handle mounts, generally due to a limb fall or dropping the saw, and it requires a COMPLETE tear down and new case halves to repair it. That’s a major expense, upwards of several hundred dollars on a saw that only retails for four bills. Otherwise I love and personally run the CS-620pw with a 28” bar. Looking forward to the build vid!
I have a cs 400 and recently removed the carb limiters. Went to tune the saw after and was able to make it run a lot better, but my low jet screw is maxed out counter clockwise and throttle response is still not amazing. It's not bogging anymore, but I am out of adjustment. Love your channel and your echo build!! Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
I have a old McCulloch that I would like to get worked on it runs just needs some TLC it cuts good but I know it can run better. Let me know if you have time.
Echos are cools saws. I don't see alot of them. Everyone around me is Stihl crazy or homeowner husky. I want to mess with a 7310 echo (I think that's the new 70cc class saw).
There's a little metal ring on the intake boot on the carb side that holds the intake boot in that plastic divider, took me a bit to figure that out when I pulled my cylinder off...
Would you please show the name and info on that card from the echo parts guy? I have this saw and want to buy the coil and carb, thanks I really enjoy watching you and I’ve learned a lot
all you had to do was pull the plastic limiter caps off the carb adjustment screws and you'd have full adjustment, no carb swap needed. Also, from everything i've heard these 590's tend to come lean from factory, not rich. heard stories of them blowing up because of a too lean of adjustment from factory.
Hey tinman thanks for the great videos! Would you care to tell the carb jet settings on that saw when you get it done up those echos tune out funny my 620 is 2 turns on the low and about a half a turn on the high
Sorry, ignore my previous post. I got tangled up in my spurs when I looked up the Echo CS-590 on my Guide Bar chart. The 590 uses D176 Chainsaw Guide Bars Carlton Mount - 41 Windsor Mount - UXL
620 has two ring piston, the 590 only has a single, the rap handle and side cover are both metal on the 620. Here in the states the 590 is like 450$ an the 620 is like 600$
@@tinmanssaws No kidding, I'm getting a 620p power head for $725cdn, while I look at it for sale at home depot in the states for 659US with a 24 inch bar. (about $750 cdn)
Hey, Tinman! Let us know how it oils when you cut with it - I have one I am trying to get more oil flow from. I just received a replacement oil pump today. thanks!
Tinnman would you know like to what carb up one would work for the Ms 038 Magnum I feel it could be more power than what it is. Working on a bark box tipe.
Tinman how many turns out did you tune the 620 carburetor? I have a ported 590 6 degree advanced woodruff key and the o-ring kit to help keep the air clean but it won’t fire?
That saw says“ I’m a sensible choice for a home owner.” That carburetor says “I’m here to party!”
I'm pumped for this one . Just got a 590 myself as my first saw
You got you a dang good saw
Tinman it's awesome that you share all of your knowledge, there's not many people that want to share their knowledge or that have the knowledge to share. Thanks for all you do. Be kind, give love!!
Echo cs 590! I have had my saw for 6 years and I still love it
First of all, your style and honesty is refreshing and welcome! I really feel like I am right there with you like a friend watching you do this work. I learn something every single time. In my opinion, I don't think you need to change one thing about how you're doing this! 👍👍👍

I have both the 590 and 620. In reality stock vs stock there isn’t much difference in performance between the two if any.
I believe the 620 coil is also limited, but limited to a higher RPM.
That 620 carb has the same dumb nozzle as far as I know... Tap that nozzle out and tap a ms361 nozzle in.. then she will lean out. I do a ton of 620s.
i got a 590 for 240 and i’ve always been a stihl guy but this saw is great

Go fast goodies! Always a plus! Great info, thanks for sharing buddy!👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🙏🙏🙏🙏
I just acquired one of these here Echo 590s....watching this, I'm sorely tempted to mod it
I had this saw for five years. It pullys a 28” full house no problem with a muffler mod and the best tune the carb will let you with caps removed

The same bar mount as that sweet 670,. Loves me some Echos......
Hey Tinman go to saw suppliers, they have a bar adapter to drop in a Stihl bar and run on that saw.
I'm thinking about getting one. They advertise that you need a chain 3 drive links longer than normal for the bar. Do you have one, is that correct. Thinking about getting one so I can swap bars between my cs-590, ms441 and farmertec g660 kit.
Own a 590 and a 620 pw.. the 590 is untouched and my 620 pw is muffler mod and carb plugs pulled and tuned way impressive!!
I have a stock CS400. Gets me by most of the time. If not, I break out the stock 576xp. Love your channel. Always great vids. Thank You. Take Care, Stay Safe and Be Kind...
Can’t wait to see what you do it . Be nice to see
The 620 has a different cylinder with more aggressive porting and a 2 ring piston instead of one. Also better bar,rim sprocket, and mag clutch cover. Here in the US the 590 is $400 and the 620 starts at $549 so it’s worth it to buy the 620.
Thanks for the information!
It definitely is, when you consider that to 620p carb and coil he added to the 590 in this vid come up to be more than $150, which is more than the cost difference between the two saws.
I have a echo cs590. That came from Mitch Weber. It’s not a full port job. Says cylinder modded for better flow. And Venturi valve increased
It’s insane. Pulls chain faster and better than my holzfforma g372xp
Thanks for doing this one Tinman. Been interested to see what i can get out of the one i have.
Excited to what what numbers you come up with compared to my build excited for this one.
Cant wait for the porting videos! It’s a D176 tail mount for Oregon. Keep up the great vids!!
8mm left that part out!
I just bought a echo cs620pw for $650 out the door. The 590 was only about a hundred bucks cheeper, and didn't have the wrap handle.
D176 bar mount, same as the old McCulloch's and Poulan Counter-Vibes.
Gangster Disciple coil..... nice!
They come with a 20in bar but I run a 27in bar on mine too and that saw pulls both bars very well stock
Looking forward to seeing you work on this saw Tinman! 🤙
This makes me want to build a CS - 590
Getting a few saws on the go at once now. We should make you President of the 2 stroke preservation society, maybe vice-president. Ironhorse 2024.
The 590's are $400 here on the east coast of the US.
The red fungus on the carb comes off pretty easy!😆
Wow...what RPM is Caleb looking for on this thing? They’re 13K from the factory. Also, Echo calls their coils “digital” coils, not sure why though...probably just a fancy way of saying limited like you were saying.
With a bit of throttle wire rework you can use a ms460 stihl carb work good if you have one laying around
Been excited to see what you do to this as I have one myself
I love my 590 stock, but that's awesome.
How long will your wait be for the 620? I have to wait until July for mine. They seem out of stock everywhere.
I am putting a 620 ignition on mine and replaced the piston as well... might add in am the carb swap you did if it works oht
Take the inner deflector and screen outta the top of the muffler and remove the plastic divider outta the air filter. She'll move alot more air and with the new parts she'll be a monster 60cc's.
This takes a D176. Husqvarna D009 large mount can work on this too
The exchange rate is $.80 USD to $1.00 CAD.
I have one its a little monster once you remove the factory carb limiter caps and its definitely a limited coil
Love the channel! Are there any oversized carbs or ignitions that will fit a cs-400??
Thank you!
Good work man God bless
I have a cs 400 and recently removed the carb limiters. Went to tune the saw after and was able to make it run a lot better, but my low jet screw is maxed out counter clockwise and throttle response is still not amazing. It's not bogging anymore, but I am out of adjustment. Love your channel and your echo build!! Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
I have a old McCulloch that I would like to get worked on it runs just needs some TLC it cuts good but I know it can run better. Let me know if you have time.
When are you going to finish the 590 part 2 video??????
Echos are cools saws. I don't see alot of them. Everyone around me is Stihl crazy or homeowner husky. I want to mess with a 7310 echo (I think that's the new 70cc class saw).
There's a little metal ring on the intake boot on the carb side that holds the intake boot in that plastic divider, took me a bit to figure that out when I pulled my cylinder off...
Thank you
Would you please show the name and info on that card from the echo parts guy? I have this saw and want to buy the coil and carb, thanks I really enjoy watching you and I’ve learned a lot
I listen to vids. I heard rev limited carb 3 times lol. Then I watched it and saw he corrected it to coil lol.
I dont have a CS-590 yet, i may need to get one though.
As of now, I’m curious as to what you’d do with my Echo CS550P. I’ve got her tuned VERY well, but like any hot-rodder, to much is JUST RIGHT!🤫
Mike Gott had a good idea. See what Gains you get just swapping the carb and coil.
all you had to do was pull the plastic limiter caps off the carb adjustment screws and you'd have full adjustment, no carb swap needed. Also, from everything i've heard these 590's tend to come lean from factory, not rich. heard stories of them blowing up because of a too lean of adjustment from factory.
Cheers Tinman 👍.
I have both 590 and 620. Besides the carb, coil , handle , sprocket and cover I am curious if the 620 has a 2 ring piston vs 590 single ring?
It's a d 176 bar mount ,same as older poulans
and Macs
The style of the coil looks similar to the one on the poulan im working on
Hey tinman thanks for the great videos!
The 590 uses
D176 Chainsaw Guide Bars
Carlton Mount - 41
Windsor Mount - UXL
Cant wait for this😂 my warranty on the 590 is going away and I can mod it pretty soon😝😂
620 has two ring piston, the 590 only has a single, the rap handle and side cover are both metal on the 620. Here in the states the 590 is like 450$ an the 620 is like 600$
The price difference is more up here for sure. 620 seems like the better deal in tje states.
I just received a replacement oil pump today. thanks!
So if I could only do one right now, which will have the biggest impact maybe with the muffler mod? Cause that one is free…
