  • In a world full of movie remakes and sequels, TV shows have never really been built for such sequel-based storytelling...except Doctor Who. This show, which has the freedom to travel to the past and future, has managed to absolutely perfect the art of sequel episodes and here's why that's fantastic.

This is actually such a great topic to bring up. I would definitely love to see sequels of stories like Time Meddler or Silence in the Library. Even prequels to eps would be cool. I love how in a weird way Kill the Moon connects to Waters of Mars with its statement on how far humanity reaches in its conquest of space.

And extension/prequel/sequel to silence in the library would be awesome. Especially for a show like doctor who, that (as the video says) does sequels very well.

The Time Meddler got a sequel in the middle of the Daleks Master Plan. The Meddling Monk turned up in the middle of the story. They even talk about the events of the Time Meddler in the story.

I’m pretty sure this is 93% the reason I didn’t resonate with series 3 originally! The majority of episodes seemed or were implied to lead directly from the former.
Rose, Donna, and basically everyone else seem to have innumerable adventures between the ones we see on the show, that are referenced or hinted at. Martha seemed to have exactly the adventures we witnessed and no more, as many episodes had some hint they were continuing directly from the last.

There was the "Instant Sequel", 1st Doctor story, "The Ark". Parts 3 & 4 are set in the distant future of parts 1 & 2. Pretty cool storytelling innovation for early Doctor Who.

Yes, the Doctor needs to take responsibility of the travesty he committed upon slab-of-walkway-stone girl-face. 😮 (😂)

You joke about it, but it’d be ballsy but also metal if in some distant earth episode the doctor stumbles on a post war colony with Ursula as there guiding voice

Yes!!! Show us the planet where that monster came from and maybe a detailed scene depicting the guy’s relationship with his slab-face girlfriend

I guess there are some stories out there that might be worth revisiting in a sequel. Just don't do Midnight. No, seriously, don't. It's perfect as it is.

Big Finish especially has done a lot of fantastic sequels to stories, like about Jenny or how the 8th Doctor met Susan again. There's also a great sequel to the Mara stories where the 5th Doctor gets possessed.

Doctor Who is so good at sequels, it can make a great sequel to a story that doesn’t even exist! Like _The Face of Evil_ .
    Or _Timelash_ 😜

Season 12 has a bunch of sequel/prequel activity, you've got Ark in Space, Sontaran Experiment and Revenge of the Cybermen that all concern the Ark in Space whether it's in the past or the future. Sontaran Experiment would be like if the Doctor popped down to the "Great and bountiful human empire" in Bad Wolf for a bit.

I'd love a sequel to Sleep No More. As one of the episode's biggest defenders, I've always loved the idea for a sequel or even a prequel, and have written quite a few (including plots for TV show sequels to the episode). They really expand on the world and the characters from the story.
A reappearance of Jenny from the Doctor's Daughter would be nice too. It'd be funny if they had a reference to Georgia Moffett's connection with Peter Davison and David Tennant, though most writers wouldn't do that.

What Doctor Who Sequel Episodes Would You Do?
For me I would do a Mind Robber Sequel.

Absolutely, with it surrounding fiction and imagination, it would make sense to reintroduce the story again, in an era surrounding myth

Sounds wierd, but I would want a sequel to School Reunion. There is no way a plot device like The Skasis Paradigm can just be used for one episode. The literal equation to becoming a god is something I could just imagine every alien and monster trying to race towards to using, and becoming a more powerful God than Sutekh or Maestro or The Toymaker. You could have every villain wanting that power, from The Valeyard, Daleks, Cybermen, Humans etc, and it would be so fascinating to see what that species would do with such power and how their vision of a perfect universe would be.

@@DalekCaanOfSkaro Really? I always felt like that was the worst part of the ep cuz it seemed half baked.

I would like a sequel to "the lodger" and "closing time" but with Alfie instead of Craig,i will also like a sequel to "in the forest of the night" (with some characters like maebh returning more older and maybe a different plot like in closing time but with same resolution)and and "the doctor falls"(only with nardole returning),Bill deserves doesnt coming back....at least not now she is exploring the universe more and later coming back home as a human alongside Heather?

i think they should make a spin off series of doctor who where they make one series every 2 years and cast a different actor as the doctor each time.
since they've already had David Bradley as the 1st doctor it should start with someone who looks enough like Trouten and should just be a stand alone series of "lost" episodes from the 2nd doctor era.
then giving proper time to find and cast a Pertwee lookalike, it should come back in a few years with a 2nd season all about "lost" episodes of the 3rd doctor.
I doubt they could find a good Tom baker impersonator, but basically continue on like that until they reach the 8th doctor. They could even conclude it with the time war with a John Hurt lookalike.
I would even suggest they try not to copy the signature outfits like Collin Baker's too much and instead suggest he had days he wore something else.

    • @hued2542
      @hued2542 5 дней назад

It’d be neat but all these actors became iconic because of their own unique quirks they brought to the part. So what happens when you cast look alikes that can’t put there own spin on the character and are forced to adhere to character guidelines to be “accurate” . Show just needs a total reboot and not to keep harping on the past

    • @sanddagger36
      @sanddagger36 5 дней назад

      @@hued2542
that's why I said it would be a spin off.
And I think that there are a certain set of actors whose skill is to impersonate others.
Also, what do you think adapting a book or comic character into a movie is?
Do you think that Robert Downey jr. didn't at least try to act a little like Tony Stark? and vice versa, didn't RDJ's personality come out in Iron Man and get him fame and more roles?
just because these actors will be emulating real people, does not mean their own personality will be lost.
finally, the potential for failure and miscasts is why i thought it should only spend a season per Doctor so if it fails just move on to the next without dwelling.

Personally I don’t mind if Sleep No More never gets a follow up. After all, it’s clear they were leaning into a found footage horror movie aesthetic with that one, and think about how many horror movies have an ambiguous ending
