This is such a good tutorial! As a beginner I have struggled with this jerky movement. It wasnt till a guy in a forum 'named the problem' that I could search it and find your video. Then realised I was already subscribed to you! Bravo, thanks a million bucks!
I've had a tab with this tutorial opened in my browser for like TWO months, and now I just got brave enough (or simply missclicked and said myself "ah, fuck it, let's watch") and I didn't regret one bit! In fact I got a lot of useful information, so thank you Evan. Great tutorial!
I used to create a motion path with a lot of keyframes, because it's obviously not possible to have a rather interesting one with just two keyframes, and then MANUALLY EDIT THE GRAPHS TO LINE UP - AND THAT WAS HELL. Later, i figured i'll just precomp the layer and ease the whole thing together - which is exactly what roving keyframes allow you to do without precomping - NOW I HAVE THE POWER.
Something I don't see is best practice management processes for running after-effects projects in a studio. The management of the pipeline. Is this something you know much about? There is a distinction one feels between being the 'artist' and the 'post-productions manager' or as someone who would want to manage their own business in a systematic way. Also this demo, a great one, is 7 years old. How his this changed in the newer After Effects revisions. Thanks for the demo!
first of all thank you for doing this..! i learned much from your tutorials and for me as a beginner you're the best teacher ever..! ;) BTW did you ever noticed that sometimes you speak exactly like agent Smith in Matrix..!? im a fan of that movie and i enjoyed this..! :))
thank you so much, i activated it by accident and now i know what it is :D i had a problem few weeks ago and thats where this type of keyframe is very handy (:
Nice! Been wondering how to smooth things out. And off topic a while ago you did a bass shake video, there is another kind that the channel dropthebassline use on their logo and was wondering how to pull that off
well if yuo got a minute over just check out the channel with the name and look at one of the recent videos, but thanks for reply and keep up the good teaching :)
Thanks! but how you change shape of shape layer in one click? you create a circle by double click - get ellipse - after - one click - perfect circle - how?? usually i change dimension by hand
yeah the tutorial may be edited to remove unnecessary steps that have nothing to do with the topic at hand. I figured making an ellipse into a circle is not essential to learning about roved keyframes to I edited that part out.
I've got a technical question. I'm using After-effects 5.5.......don't laugh...........and it doesn't accept all my AVI's, so I bought an NCH file converter software...........and ti still doesn't accept all my AVI's. It tells me ''no such avi compressor''..............so I'm wondering if it's the encoder options which need to be reset? And if so to what? or the video options? and if these then to what? I've written to NCH and they reading the 5.5 manual, but I can't see any relevant listing in the menu. Can anyone help with this? It's holding back my schedule.
I'm not really sure. In order to really understand what's going on, we need to know what codec is being used in this AVI files. What's inside the container? Also, where are these AVI files coming from? Is it every kind of AVI?Divx Avi? Xvid avi? Are you on Mac or PC? Was this always a problem or is it a new problem? And if so, what changed about the system?
Thanks, I want to ask you how I can follow any layer ( like picture or shape ) to line ?? For example : pin follow hand writing >> and sorry for my bad English
Tariq Alrubaiai For your question? Parent any layer to any other layer will stick them together. I'm not sure what you want to create. Have you tried parenting or expressions to solve your issue? And if so why was it not correct for your situation?
Tariq Alrubaiai You want to make a line that comes on (like using a shape path and trim paths) and then have a pen follow it (like selecting the path, copying it, and pasting it to the position of the pen) is that what you want to do?
There are no settings that I know of that change keyframes from the comp settings. You can change your keyframe types any time though by selecting them and changing their interpolation. In this video I am using eased keyframes which makes them curved with handles in the graph editor. Technically they have bezier temporal interpretation and auto-bezier spacial interpolation.
God's call and he want to start a new big bang and shit but needs somes to put it in the right way, tough...You should prepare the tuts for the Physics Dept...they will need it.
03:50 you have started to draw an ass or boobs i guess, just i found it funny, great tutorial, and i'm a fan of all your tutorials ... great job evan.. great job ... :)
Hi Evan! Great video! I wasn't able to find your business email and would love to talk to you about some integration opportunities. I left you an inbox message with more information, please feel free to reach out to me at anytime! Best, Jessika Thoughtful Media Group

Lol. That's a long time to keep a tab open!!!

This solve my problem so so damn fastttt
5:40 explanation how to do it in ae, if u already know what it is. (select middle keyframes, rclick, rove across time)
It changed my life man! thanks :D !
Thank you Evan!!
thank you so much, i activated it by accident and now i know what it is :D i had a problem few weeks ago and thats where this type of keyframe is very handy (:
Great tip Evan! Thanks
awesome evan!
great job ! Thanks for the HQ explano
Hey Evan,
Can you explain to me how you made that graph paper background and how you animated it? Hope all is well buddy! Love everything you do!
this are freakin' awesome!
bounce! bounce!
xd
Thanks!
Nice! Been wondering how to smooth things out. And off topic a while ago you did a bass shake video, there is another kind that the channel dropthebassline use on their logo and was wondering how to pull that off
I'm afraid I don't know who dropthebassline is.
well if yuo got a minute over just check out the channel with the name and look at one of the recent videos, but thanks for reply and keep up the good teaching :)
Awesome tutorial,very useful ;)
Very useful, I'd like to use this technique on the position of a camera, but unfortunately the option is also greyed out...
nevermind, found it out, I just had the 2 keyframes selected, but nothing in the middle.
Erika Floor-Boone Yeah that would be a problem. Glad it worked out.
I FOUND GOD !!! this was just amazing
So helpful oh my god thank you so much ! :D
thank you!

Cant you make separate playlist your video keyframe step by step, i am little confused watch your playlist, thanks
I'm not 100% sure what you're after. Would you like a playlist that is only about kinds of keyframes?
Yeeeez I feel like such a dumbass. I never knew this. For years if been fighting with the graphs to make things smooth out.
Still good practice to smooth it out that way. :)

have you tried using parenting or expressions?
parenting position for what ?
Tariq Alrubaiai For your question? Parent any layer to any other layer will stick them together. I'm not sure what you want to create. Have you tried parenting or expressions to solve your issue? And if so why was it not correct for your situation?
I want to create like that : pen folow hand writing !!
Are you understand me ?
Tariq Alrubaiai You want to make a line that comes on (like using a shape path and trim paths) and then have a pen follow it (like selecting the path, copying it, and pasting it to the position of the pen) is that what you want to do?
My keyframes always produce linear line paths. They're not curved like they were in your vid. Is there a setting that I'm missing when I start a Comp?
There are no settings that I know of that change keyframes from the comp settings. You can change your keyframe types any time though by selecting them and changing their interpolation. ECAbrams
Yup, that works for me.
how can yo se the graph like that? mine doesnt like that
Have a look/listen at 4:21 of the video. I talk about speed and value graphs and toggle between them.
