I was on a business trip and in a hotel elevator when Wayne Brady stepped in on the next floor. There were two other people on the elevator but when doors, which were mirrored, closed he saw me behind him and turned around and said good morning to me with a big smile. His energy was pure kindness. It emanates from him. I will never forget that moment. He wasn't as famous as he now but I knew who he was. He is so talented and I wish him only the best in life and love.

I am such an introvert. I can go days without talking to anyone. After hearing Wayne, I will try to be more social but I don't know. I like being alone. That way there are no expectations from anyone. It's safe.

I am introvert also and spend a lot of time alone. However, I don't feel lonely because I enjoy my own company and I pray more. However, I too want to become more social to have a True friend to hang out with at times. But, I know to do this I have to put forth an effort or it won't happen. Until I do, I will continue to enjoy my own company and be prayful.

I know exactly how you feel, I think. It was good for me to hear/see this conversation. I, for the first time, see what took me so long to understand depression and to try to get help. When I was growing up my family, grandma, elders etc, always said that mental illness was not a thing. When saying your feeling down or alone or have anxiety (one think I also have bad) was just an excuse for laziness or that it wasn't real or why don't I make friends easily. I was told a lot that I'm just fine and be thankful for what I have. My family is from the south, mostly Kentucky, and I'd hear them talking about depressed family members (they did not say the D word, of course) and saying that they just needed to pray more. Glad things have progressed for the better and mental illnesses is now known as a disease and something that needs medical attention.

Can completely relate to isolating. If work doesn’t demand that I have to be around people I can also retreat into total solitude and not interact with anyone and be happier that way. It’s s welcome relief not having to be mentally and physically taxed by having to engage with anyone. I get what Wayne is saying. I too have been that way since my youth and each year the need to avoid social situations grows tremendously.

This video is a breath of fresh air. To hear both Wayne and Mandie speak upon depression, parenting/raising a child, relationships, and moving forward in everyday life whilst juggling everything aforementioned, really sheds a ray of light on many issues swept under the rug to be taboo. To know and empathize with others feeling and having experiences like your own is empowering and liberating! You would never know a man like Wayne would be in such situation in spite of what is portrayed in the shows he’s on but it really does come to show that sometimes the funniest, charismatic and liveliest of people are often the ones that have gone thru much pain, ridicule, and some sort of suffering

Most artistic brilliant ppl have mental issues bc it’s a thin line between sanity (being present in this world) and insanity (artistic, spiritual world or trying to figure out the knowledge and spiritual world of how the world and psychology work within the human nature world work on a cosmic and scientific (may not have the ability to intellectually understand scientific information) level. Like a baby trying to make sense of what they see in their world or hear. People long time ago who fit the insanity branch were occultic, into the art part of drums, tribal dances, dream world etc. all attempts to understand depression (sadness due to not understanding life) and work thru what they don’t understand.

Introvert here . I often tell friends and family to reach out if they don’t hear from me for too long. I get too comfortable in my own solitude( love it) but I know that is not always good to be alone( you get caught up in your head). For that reason having people that will get me out of my conformes sort of balance me out. Also have some friends that are either bipolar or suffer from depression . If I don’t hear from them after two weeks, I be calling them
Or dropping by to make sure that they are ok . I always tell people that to stay sane sometimes you need a whole team helping you and any little effort counts.

I can relate with Wayne when he mentioned on The Masked Singer that he's an introvert. So when he says here he can go a day without talking to someone, I'm the same way. I can go even longer. However I'm a different kind of introvert as Wayne. I don't like getting up in front of people. Don't need or want the attention drawn to me and don't like being the center of attention. I like talking 1 on 1. However I can go to a concert or to a restaurant where there is a crowd of people but I need to have space within that crowd. I've been told by co-workers that I'm analytical and that I was complicated. I don't fit into societal norm and never have. I choose to be me. But introverts tend to be inside their own heads alot and we see little details that other's miss. I think this can lead to depression as well. We see and experience every little thing going on around us. In so many households mental health isn't discussed and that isn't good. I was raised in a 2 parent household where everything was discussed. My father talked to me about sex. There was no shame in his game. My mother talked about her depression and she had to take medication.

I am a seasonal introvert. I for some reason don't like the holidays because I don't want company or visitors. But at work, for some reason I adapt with my multiple personalities. I can change my personality like a switch. Depending on who I am talking too. It's almost like I take on the individuals personality. Maybe this is called being FAKE! I don't know but it is hard being my normal laid back self, because people take me for granted. So I have learned to conform to the situation or individual rather be myself.

    • @nreynolds75243

@@cinnamon3220 Don't ever stop being the awesome individual you truly are. No need for fakeness. There's too many around already. Embrace who you really are and you'll be more happy. The right real people will come along. Don't feel like you HAVE to be extroverted to be accepted. If you sit back and pay attention alot of them are very insecure and have no depth. They constantly need someone's validation and usually are the bullies or the ones who cause other's trouble. They jump from person to person and don't really KNOW anyone. Don't make very good real friends. Not all extroverts are this way but alot are. Just be you. I've experienced alot of ignorance and bullying from extroverted people. I've learned as I've gotten older, they are the ones with the issue, not you. I speak up and out when I need to and keep being me that God made. God always will love who you really are. That's the only person I'm concerned with.

@Ace Lee The view of being social is different for everyone. Most people think if you're not loud and talking to a million people then somehow there's something wrong with you. It's their own narrow view of the world. Some people are fine with alot of people around, some are fine with a handful of people around, some are fine with just 1 person around, some are fine with none. Some may need association all the time and some not so much. That's why we are called individuals. We aren't clones. I'm the same way. I like being alone more and prefer it. I don't pretend to be nothing else but me. If people don't like it, they don't have to be around. More peace. It's nothing wrong with you.

totally agree --- my ex and I are friends and have been for 40 plus years! Though we realized we couldn't live together, we LIKED each other plus we had a child together. It wasn't easy, AT ALL, when 1st separated but we both agreed our daughter needed BOTH of us, and through time, we've both moved on. We don't need to talk all the time, but we touch base just to see how the other one is doing approximately 6-8 times a year and know we can call on one another for anything. So wish others could be blessed with this type of understanding/relationship, if not for themselves, at least for the kids

They are the perfect example of friends becoming a couple and then realizing that they are better as friends. It happens. it's just wonderful that they realized this and continued as friends and are both their for their daughter. I wish that could have happened with my ex and myself. That wasn't the case sadly. I am lucky to have found my current husband of 16, going on 17 years and we have fought for our relationship and have a beautiful 14 year old son. I wish I could have been able to help raise my daughter, but when my divorce happened, to have a roof over my head, I had to move out of state and she was better off with him as he had a stable home and was working at the time. I did what was best for her, even if it broke my heart. Anyways, I commend them for being the best people they can be for themselves, each other, and their daughter, kudos!!!

    Aloha braddah Wayne
I'm in the same boat and it's great to know that others may be out there doing what we are asked you get past and accomplish being able to take care of our children separate but still together. We too, came to the decision to remain as friends the best we can. It is all about or daughters. I have and I'm the primary parent. They're mom is Chinese and I'm Filipino /haoli mix. It is possible to do the parenting in an amicable manner, but those that try to get back at their former partner through their children as a vengeful way to hurt each other don't realize our sometimes don't care because they are so focused on the hate, that they're jeopardizing their children's mental health.. I am an artist/entertainer on a much smaller scale. As a former Marine I do suffer from major depression and am going back to talking with the VA for help. Both my daughters grew up knowing I have this problem, but they both seem to understand how much mom and dad both love them very much and how's I sometimes struggle with my depression. They have keywords I taught them to snap me out of whatever state I may be in. Hopefully I've raised them to be strong, educated, independent young women. I believe your daughter is a year older than my eldest. She is now in college to become A Nurse Practitioner-the Filipino dream. Lol. My youngest is my mini me and is an artistic fashionista. Thanks for this video.
    Take care braddah.

If being an introvert brings you peace, I don't see the problem with it. I love the silence & peace that comes from not having unwanted conversations that muddy your brain, and remove the clarity that you crave. I just love not having to entertain anyone. I prefer not to be judged, and people simply aren't adept at keeping peace and calm while conversing with you.

This two beautiful souls are held hostage by too many societal labels. The INNER SPACE is where, no label can be attached to them, and they Transcends the psychological construct of the mind, they are talking about, like they own them. These two people should be like magicians, all what they touch should turn to gold and all their doings a labor of love. Their should be the perfect dance togegher. They are two peas in a pod. They only had to discover the freedom there within, and trust their INNER SPACE.

When I hear ex-couples say these positive views about one another, then WHY AREN'T YOU STILL MARRIED? I think these days and times people are too selfish. When you are married you have to give and not just give on surface. You hear about how people are more lonely now than ever before. In my opinion people don't want to spend the time it takes (make a commitment) to get to know someone on a deeper level. No one wants to make sacrifices. As soon as it gets tough, then the quit mindset kicks in. You can't have a fair weather marriage or any kind of relationship for that matter. No real relationship will happen unless you "give" of yourself freely. Put "me" behind you.

My ex-wife was my best friend. After we got divorced, I wanted to be friends after the break up, but my wife wanted no parts of me. Even though she cheated on me. I understood her personal problems, that lead to her emotional breakdown and a need for her to cheat. I forgave her, and tried to help her, but she wanted to move on. She also blamed me for her short comings. I believed she had feeling of guilt, for what she's done to our marriage, so by breaking all connections with me, she can keep herself from feeling remorseful for her actions.

I have always thought that in relationships, we start off without education. Education about relationships, education about self, education about relating to others, education about honesty, education about failure and how to process it and deal with it, education about getting up and dusting up, just to pick a few things here.
I feel the same time we spend going to college and university to study all these courses, we miss educating about Marriage. This is the most complex job on earth because it brings not only 2 people together but families, cultures, countries, religions and more together.
Being honest to self is key. I am a 46 year old male now from Africa and I feel that education is the key. I appreciate that its more complex...
