Call me by your name, it is an analogy of a father naming his children after his family name, it is a heritage thing. So when God calls someone by his name, he is actually recognizing the person’s identity as his child.

Excellent answer! I would explain further that it's like God saying "I choose you - I adopt you as my own". Romans 8:15 says, "For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”"... In other words, the type of relationship God desires us to have with Him is not as grovelling, fearful and enslaved 'robots', but as beloved sons and daughters. His adoption of us is purposeful, intentional, and extremely loving. 😃💕😃💕😃

Testimony
I was born in a Christian family and thought I was a Christian because I went to church on Sundays but the way I lived showed otherwise. I was leading my self to death and also eternal death, I was partying 4 to 5 times a week. I would go to the clubs almost every night till like 3 or 4 in the morning and then I had to get up at 530 for work, I was so used to this cycle that it was easy to run off 1 hour of sleep. I was drinking crazy amounts of alcohol and would drive home so drunk all the time and I don’t even remember how I got home most of the time. My buddy even said I would serve all over the road. There was no words from anyone that was gonna stop the way I was living until god put a stop to it all and completely changing my life and also my eternal life. On May 10 2017 I was out with friends, we were in two separate cars and the one car sped in front of us without knowing a sharp Conner was coming up. They then skimmed the side of a hydro pole and went air born perfectly going threw two trees. Then the pole came down and landed right on my head when I was in the passenger seat, it crushed my head right open and turned my brain 90 degrees. I was pronounced dead, even in the police report it said i died. I stoped breathing so they punctured my lungs with a tube so I good breath and put 4 bags of blood in me. I was in a coma for 2 weeks and the doctors told my family I most likely won’t survive and if I do I will be a vegetable for the rest of my life and after two months I walked out of the hospital looking like nothing really happened to me. I had thousands of people all over the world praying for me and god saved my life and I became a strong Christian after this, That’s why that day became the best day of my life. Also after that miracle from god there was more. My right eye got pushed down to my mouth so they did another surgery to move my eye up and thought o would never be able to see again out of that eye but I still had vision but extremely bad vision and the eye doctor told me I have a lot of damage behind my eyeball that can never go away so my vision in that eye will never improve, so I got glasses but after awhile the glasses were making it worse so I stoped using them. Over time my vision seemed great but I thought it was from me just using my good eye to see. Seven months after the first eye appointment I had another one and they did all the testing again. At the end the eye doctor comes in with so much shock on his face and he was extremely confused. He said Kyle, I don’t know what happened or how this is even possible but some how all the damage behind your eye is completely gone to where you no longer even need glasses. I went from a lost boy leading myself to hell to a guy with a strong relationship with the lord are father in heaven, to where I can no longer drink and love spreading gods amazing grace and love! Praise god!!!! 🙏❤️

As a Christian, the phrase "call me by your name" based on my personal relationship with Jesus means that when He died and rose from the grave, He restored back to us everything that were stolen from us when adam and eve sinned in the beginning. So Jesus through His death has not only redeemed us but also now has given us His identity so we can be accepted by God. So that when we come to God, He will accept us because of what Jesus did. Jesus is every real christians identity. Apostle Paul said "for it is not me who lives but Jesus lives in me". I hope this makes sense. This is my translation based on my personal walk with Jesus. Yes, Leonardo...the Holy Spirit is all over you. Why are you waiting? Don't think you have to do this or that. God expects nothing. His Son has already done it all. All you have to do is love Him, and I believe you do...accept Jesus Christ as being His Son...born of the Spirit, lived as a man, yet still God, ministered, saved, healed and delivered, died, was beat as torn flesh hang from his body beyond recognizability...for YOU. Then He rose again on the third day, returned to Heaven and is coming again for those who love and receive him. You just said it....COME AS YOU ARE....because he has already paid the price for your sins, the mistakes of your/our past. Trust Him and receive Him. Just say it. Love you and your ministry.

Jesus is not a religion it's it's a relationship with Him. I was also brought up as a Catholic, went to catholic school for 8 years. It was good, because I learned there is a God. But now I know he's real and know how much he loves me👍😊❤. He SACRIFICE himself for me. Left Heaven, his divine life to walk as a human being, tempted in all things just like us. I was nearly an atheist. Even tho my dad is a Pastor. I feel empty and i want to die. But Jesus changed me and my life started to have colors. So i decided to Be a worship team to serve him and worship him with all of my heart. God changed all. My perspective, my beliefs, my whole life. im not that deep spiritually. But dude. Life may be stupid and unfair. But God is here for us.! We might have problems but He's with us.

To me “You call me by Your name” means a lot. His name means salvation, blessing, honour, grace, freedom, and so much more. A name is a “label”, in a way, so when He calls us by His name He gives us a new name/identity in Him. He calls us by who we are in Him, not by what we have done. I am loving this series by the way! Just found it today and it’s so cool to hear someone else’s perspective. (Also the female voice in this and Oceans is Taya Smith! I love her voice so so much!)

Religious people has been missrepresenting God. God is a father who says "I don't care about your past, your present I can change, therefore, just come as you are, with your imperfections and your weakness and I'll make you clean, I'll make you strong" just Read Isaiah 41:10 you will see what I am telling you. He is s father who loves with a love that goes beyond comprehension. This is what this is about.

I love that everyone here who is a Christian commenting is so encouraging! One thing I have on my heart to share is that God calls us to not only believe in Him but to repent of all our sin and live for Him alone. The beginning of the Gospel of Mark shows Jesus Himself preaching repentance. We cannot come to God with our self-righteousness and ask that He accept it. His Son died to wash us clean from our sins not to continue in them. Anyways I share because I care. I loved the video!

The main singer in this song was Tulele Faletolu, he's been singing with Hillsong in the past. Due to an unfortunate event, he said he was compelled to retreat into isolation and sunk into depression until he found the courage to go back home to the LORD. The band let him sing the lead which somehow seemed like a comeback for him.

"You call me by Your name" just means that Christians are in God's family as children. Just like an adopted child would be called by their new family's surname. Also, we have Christ's righteousness given to us because of what He did on the cross.

So the phase in the song “you called me by your Name” is very interesting. As none Christain’s in judgement day we have to Account for our own actions to God (our own name). When you are saved through Christ our Lord we are covered by His grace. Therefore on judgement day we still account for our actions but called by His name. Resulting in no eternal punishment because we are called by the name of Jesus because he covers us; a child of the Most High.
oh I see, I knew there was something deeper to what the words actually mean in everyday language. The first thing I thought of was the nature that we share with the Great Spirit and that God would call us by His name as a form of recognizing us as being ONE with Him. I was way off on how Hillsong meant it, but I love that concept! Thank you for sharing that with me.

God "calling us by His name" means we are His and He is ours just like in "Oceans". When we give our lives to Christ we inherit all of Him. Give your life to Christ brother God is calling you. I’m getting here way stinkin’ late but I am lovinggggggg these!! My thoughts on your question what did it mean when the lyrics said “You called me by Your name”
There’s a few things this brings to mind, but the first is this. God is perfect, and cannot be with/look at sin. When the enemy tempted Adam and Eve and the “fall” happened, humanity became “tainted” in a way, with sin. And God doesn’t want to abandon His kids, so He created ways for them to still get to Him- specific fragrant sacrifices for specific atonement’s in the early times, etc. But as time went on, juman nature kind of took over the law He had given, and put their own judgements, and extra meanings into those laws and made them not what He had originally intended. So to get rid of the need for a religious human leader to help one stone for sins (as this could be abused by the sinful nature of that human,) he sent his son, (also fully a part of himself) in the form of a human being, to “cover” the cost of all human sin in the future by His sacrifice. And therefore, we are not looked at through a lens of sin anymore, even though we all do it without even knowing. Instead he views us through the sacrifice of His son, and has given us “the right to become co-heirs with Christ”. That is how I took that, but also the word “Mine”. It’s one of His names, to himself, but it’s also His name for His kiddos🥰🫶 (humans)

I’ve heard many worship songs, but this was the first time I ever heard this song and it touches so deeply 🙌🏾
I don’t like music which has no message but I love music which has a deep message which takes you from the first moment on. And this one has such a message and for me as a Christian really important one. I’m a musician in general and I play and sing much and almost every kind of music. But just christian music can move me so deeply whilst I sing or just listen. Surely there are good and less good christian music but I think no other type of music is written with so much emotion and reason than this type. Your reaction was another broad confirmation of this for me. Keep doing what you are doing! You are on the right way! I have also a suggestion for another reaction video: Survivor by Zach Williams (and I would recommend the version in the Harding Prison) God bless you!
I agree! This music is very intentional and I think that's what I love about this band. Joel writes for the Great Spirit (GOD) and his words are sincere. it's felt in the softness of his playing and his singing and deliverance of those words... Taya is the same... the expression is everything! I have also heard this sort of passionate singing in flamenco music and also in Arabic music, which i love both... I have also found that some Hindu music has melodies and vocal patterns that are OUT OF THIS WORLD SACRED!! Thank you for the comment and for the recommendation.
