    2nd gear is the one for bump starts on small hills and small run ups maaaate, stops the wheel locking up and turns the engine over easier 👊🏻👍🏻

      I just thought that was on big bikes and smaller whippersnappers it was best to use first. Probably dreamt it one day 🤣

      @@UsernameKate I was going to suggest 2nd gear. Also I leave it in neutral get some speed up then throw it in gear. The clutch dragging takes so much of your speed when bumping

      @420fittness Год назад +3

      @@UsernameKate it works on any geared bike or car its just a better gear for bump starting especially if your on your own and struggling to find a massive hill haha

      2nd gear is a good shout. It turns the engine over more quickly and makes it more likely to fire up.

    • @donnierobson3215
      @donnierobson3215 Год назад +1

      For sure 2nd gear and roll down the hill in neutral and only stick in gear just before you bump it. Definitely makes it easier.

    She wee and a coke bottle inside the tent would solve your problem and as for you heated gear plug it in but turn it all off half hour before you stop for fuel or camp then it will have time to recharge the battery . Or take one of those little jump start packs, I always carry one

    Kate, well done, you've done great getting out there when far too many can't even tie their own shoelaces these days! Top Work. Just a few points that millions of people will also tell you, probably: 1. Bump start in 2nd gear. 2. Get a jump starter block and practice using it before you need to - they do work, mine has! 3. Try some proper camping food that you only need to bung hot water into. It is miles easier if you get stranded in the dark. (And if you know you will arrive in the dark, on the way, ask the nice person in the services to fill your flask with hot water - nothing to do but add to the grub when you get there!). I look forward to seeing your next exploits!

      Bought a vespa at 56 and did CBT. Passed A1 same year.
      Started doing part time deliveroo at 58 on the vespa.
      Bought SH125i at 61, still doing deliveries which I enjoy.
      As already had the A1, did the A2 at 63 ( don't have to retake theory going from A1 to A2).
      Still haven't bought a bigger bike, thinking of a restricted NC750x.
      Anyway did 34,000 on the vespa, SH is at a little over 62,000.
      Hope you get your bike and have as much fun riding as I have.
      I did the A1 on my own, just watched some YT videos.

    One more comment from an old guy.. 74!!! Yes use 2nd gear bump start and you are a good candidate for a small jump start battery pack.. I have a boost and is strong enough to start a diesel truck.. Also had usb plugs and a 12v socket.. I have just discovered your channel and will be following your adventures..I just checked and you can buy a high output stator and I would seriously think about getting a voltage/amp gauge to see if you are discharging.. If your battery is flat and you are drawing on the stator only it could burn up and you would be stranded..Also, I bought my wife a women’s pee funnel on Amazon that allows her to wee into a bottle..

    Glad you got back okay 😊. The battery was very low when you were setting off wasn't it hence the poor starting. Next time you're going on a trip away, just connect up to an optimate charger the night before then you always start with a full battery. And for piece of mind join a breakdown service so if the worse comes to the worse you can get rescued without calling Mike 😀

    Well done Kate enjoyed that very brave on your own but you need a wee bottle so you can do it in the tent without the worry of flashing your lady bits your heated gear probably draws more power than that little bike makes to save you having to bump start the bike get a jump starter pack you can still use as a power bank if you have too you also should learn the way to bump start run with the bike in gear and jump on side saddle let the clutch out when your arse hits the seat a life saver the jump pack much safer way I would fit an led daytime running light and fit a switch so you can isolate the headlight and send the power to you heated gear or get a proper bike for touring x

  • @iainamurray
    @iainamurray Год назад +2

    2nd gear for push starts! Plus, I’ve had this issue before with using heated kit preventing the recharge. I’d recommend plugging it in and keeping warm and then unplug 20 mins or so before you know you’ll have to stop. That should be enough to put enough juice to start it again after a brief stop.

  • @heydavemyers1
    @heydavemyers1 9 месяцев назад

    there's a good selection of battery-operated heated gear out now which works well, and you don't have to tax your small bike's charging system. I have gloves, jacket, etc. The batteries are small and light and easy to pack spares.

  • @davedthomas01
    @davedthomas01 Год назад

    Booster packs are small enough and cheap enough these days, quick and easy to use, and way safer than trying to bump a bike with luggage on board money well spent if you must use the heated gear continuously, no 125 will put out enough spare electricity to handle that sort of load. a lesson I earned with my kiess heated gloves 😜

    Bit late now but pack a survival bag on the next non-summery trip. Keeps the wind from blowing all your body heat out your sleeping bag.
    Also unplugging heated gear 30-45 mins before a planned stop should put enough charge in to start it up again.
    And don't aim in to the wind 😋

    I'm not convinced the stator on small displacement Sinnis puts out that much wattage. It'll be fine for running the bike's equipment (assuming the battery's in good nick) but heated gear takes a lot of juice. If a typical lead acid 12v DC battery has been fully flattened, it's normally junk. Plenty of videos on youtube on how to 'rejuvenate a dead battery' but in my experience it won't hold a charge...on a motorcycle, it's not worth messing about. buy a new one.

    the luxury of lightweight bikes, so long as it isn't mechanical like the stator/regulator or engine. sidestand switch, they are very easily bump started. Our heated gear like to mess with our bikes, my Macna heated clothing kept blowing my fuse today through the DIN on the BMW, so much for a bike specific cable, opted for the one that goes directly off my battery now that should avoid the blown fuse. Always carry a small jump pack now as well. JERSEY ICECREAM the best, especially on your doorstep lol a long with yoghurt and milk....

    Those small capacity motorcycles have even smaller battery’s & border line alternators ,so have their work cut out just powering the bikes standard electrics . They are not meant to be overloaded with a load of RUclipsrs gizmos & tat ,such as mobile phones ,sat navs ,heated jackets ,& other such shizzle . You were lucky the bike even had enough battery juice to even bump start it, you are a typical Kate likeable but crazy . 👍

    Wow Kate, that was such a little bike! Why didn’t it start when you were leaving home? I’d have been suspicious of it having a problem before you left even. Here’s some advice if you have to bump/push start a bike again. Don’t use 1st gear, use at least second or even third gear instead. There is a couple reasons for this, when you use a higher gear it will turn the engine over faster and easier than first gear. You’ll have better success.

    I've got a Honda Fireblade that i bought new that has refused to start on anything other than a full battery pretty much since the day i bought it. It absolutely does not start from a bump either. At least you've got that option. (what happens when they design a bike with a battery bay the size of a postage stamp)

    You could try a ‘SheWee’. But do practice with it. You’ll be able to whip it out like the lads in no time! 😇

    Pity the weather wasn't as good on the way up. That part of southern Scotland is quite pretty. You were actually pretty close to where I was born if you had continued on the A 713 you would have evetually reached Ayr. Unfortunately there's no plaque commemorating that momentous event 🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Shame you didn't have a great sleep. Any time I go wild camping, especially solo, , it's definitely earplugs to keep the nature noises out my head. Also, even as a bloke I take a thing called a "Travel John" to save having to get up and go out the tent during the night. Supposedly work for ladies too.

    great run Kate loved it. but when bump starting a bike you will find it easier to go in 2nd or even 3. but 1 the back wheel will probably lock on you. or just carry a jump starter. they make some great 1s small and powerful. I'm hopping to do a Scotland run in summer lol.

    Cake and other sweet treats for breakfast is a 'must' when you're low on energy. Well, do we really need an excuse...? 🤔
    I was out on my bike today. I got soaked on my way home and the bike was covered in crud. It was a stark reminder why these days I'm a seasonal rider. It took ages to clean and dry the bike. Oh yeah, I was glad for my heated grips, my hands would have suffered if it wasn't for those. I wonder if smaller bikes lack the electrics to run heated gear? That said, I've seriously given consideration to buying a 125 for those little trips out. I'm sure that would be fun.

    The Problem with bump starting fuel injected bikes is you need a strong batter to inject the fuel .. As mentioned below 2nd gear might work better .. You need to pull the clutch in quick as it fires .. as you may be going to slow and lug the engine into stalling ..
