This is no BS. I just added two to my system and they are fantastic. Much more realistic and additive verses what I was using. The mid range is now 3D and airy. I had two 15 inch from a major speaker supplier and my sound was never tight and dynamic. I found the answer in REL. The S/5 SHO model is great for me. I have about 100 cubic meters to fill and they have no problem.

I own pair focal Diablo powered by MC601
I have added a pair of Rel T7i and it added lots of low mid range. Even though my speakers are so detailed and revealing, the result with Rel was day and night different

I dont know why it is so, but I agree that adding 1 or even 2 subwoofer(s), exactly leveled on speaker level, not only a bit above, changes the entire pleasure!
I just assume that it comes from the little "bi-amping" factor (Stereo amp - Speakers / active Subs) and more tranquility and control out of it in Bass and low Mid Section.
There were a lot Workshops here in Europe with this Focus on it with astonishing results.

Is there any latency from using a powered sub? or is this one special?

If anyone could answer this question....I have a speaker I feel matches the room, but only goes down to 34Hz. Would adding a Rel quality sub benefit the mid bass if my midbass is already excellent? I initially wanted more quick bottom end.

How come an UK brand is video presented by american people ?! I guess the UK Rel Acoustics don't give a shit about their costumers ! I own a Rel Storm 3, it has bad electronics design, low quality components...Daewoo capacitors ???...c'mon, that's crap !!!...the R8 12kohm/2W resistor should be 15kohm/3W ! I changed the Daewoo caps for Mundorf, and the Q9 & Q10 (BF469, NPN) to MJE340 transistors
    Q4 & Q5 (BF470, PNP) to MJE350
    transistors
    R8 (12k, 2 Watt) to 15K, 3 Watt, 5%
    resistor.
The best component on my Storm 3 is the toroidal transformer.
I really hope Rel Acoustics use better components on their new sub generations, a Rel it is not cheap, it should have much better components !!!
That's why my next subwoofer will be the american PSA-Power Sound Audio...take a look to it's inside, it's components and you will understand how a sub should be !!!
Another guy with the same problem as i : " 1. Failed power supply cap.
The positive rail reads a good 60V on DC, and with an AC check, 0.000v. Using 'AC' voltage measurement across a power supply doesn't exactly tell you much, because of he limited bandwidth of multimeters, but it can be a cheap way of seeing if there's big transients. The negative rail reads -60V, but on the AC measurement, it jumps around.. a LOT. I have to scope this to see exactly whats going on.
    2. Failed output transistors.
I have checked the MOSFET's in-circuit for shorts, but will probably desolder these and check them again. There is high resistance between source and drain of all four, with the body-diodes Vf of between 0.4, and 0.3V. I'm guessing the low value is because it is in circuit, along with resistors, but a short would be
