It's a cheesy romcom for the gays and we are here for it. We didn't get cheesy romcoms growing up. It's not some deep movie but it had me crying because I could see myself in those characters. I felt represented. I got something I never had growing up. So no, it's not some cinematic masterpiece, but it was just what I needed.
RWRB was indeed a book before, and although it is a pretty good adaption it did make the grave error of not putting in the scene where the president makes a powerpoint titled "Exploring Your Sexuality: Healthy, but Does It Have To Be with the Prince of England?" after Alex comes out to her, which in my opinion is unforgivable
I also think it’s a crime they cut out all the side characters basically. Like even with the ones that are actually in the movie, we don’t really get any background info. They are really bland compared to the book. The book really should’ve been made into tv show in my opinion. There’s just too much good plot and characters for it to fit neatly into a movie. Although I liked the movie, the book was just so great and just so much more fun.

as fun as the movie is, the book just hit it out of the park for me, especially with the side characters and the character development of both Henry and Alex. it’s obviously impossible to perfectly adapt a full length novel in a 1,5 hour movie and they did as best as they could but the book is just so incredibly fun and special to me. if you enjoyed the movie, you’re going to LOVE the book!!

Alex is the son of a Mexican immigrant and has never had life the way Henry has. Ofc henry has his own struggles but the comparison always bothered Alex because it’s very different. I can’t fully explain it bc am drunk but 1000% read the book! Its so good

They do long distance for a while than move in together in a brownstone in new York, they get engaged and eventually move to a house in the middle of nowhere in Texas to be able to live a peaceful life. Author also comfirmed that they see them having kids in their mid/late thirties (i haven't read the book for a good year now so, people in the comments, correct me if i'm wrong.)

SO WORTH THE WAIT!!!! your reactions were priceless. and yes it is a book!!! please read the book it is INCREDIBLE. they did a great job with the adaption but they definitely had to leave out a lot of the book bc it’s soooo dense & more complicated! also Taylor Zakhar Perez is his name and if you read the book you’ll see how INCREDIBLE of a job he did playing Alex. (we also all praise Nick’s portrayal of Henry, he does an amazing job with his emotions) but the book & first 3/4ths of the movie are Alex’s pov & Taylor used that book as a bible. Also you edited out a lot of parts/reactions that I’m guessing you probably didn’t have as much of a reaction to (which is fine!) but a lot of them happen to be like THE most important parts of the book carried into the movie. I don’t wanna say which ones bc I want you to read them in the context of the book for the first time! But this was SO fun. Taylor & Nick’s chemistry was truly insane like I felt like I needed to look away. The Paris scene was handled with such care & scenes like that don’t really exist in gay movies. And, again, T & N are delivering what was described of the characters in the book & how much they love each other when stuck in such difficult circumstances. Also glad you appreciated the phone call/text message scenes it was a great adaptation montage! Okay i’m gonna shut up now I could go on forever I love this little pink book and the movie so much. I can’t say it enough: NICHOLAS IS A FUCKING ARTIST! I love him so much, and he’s always divine in every part he plays. And if he sings, even better 🩵
SO WORTH THE WAIT!!!! your reactions were priceless. and yes it is a book!!! please read the book it is INCREDIBLE. they did a great job with the adaption but they definitely had to leave out a lot of the book bc it’s soooo dense & more complicated! also Taylor Zakhar Perez is his name and if you read the book you’ll see how INCREDIBLE of a job he did playing Alex. (we also all praise Nick’s portrayal of Henry, he does an amazing job with his emotions) but the book & first 3/4ths of the movie are Alex’s pov & Taylor used that book as a bible. Also you edited out a lot of parts/reactions that I’m guessing you probably didn’t have as much of a reaction to (which is fine!) but a lot of them happen to be like THE most important parts of the book carried into the movie. I don’t wanna say which ones bc I want you to read them in the context of the book for the first time! But this was SO fun. Taylor & Nick’s chemistry was truly insane like I felt like I needed to look away. The Paris scene was handled with such care & scenes like that don’t really exist in gay movies. And, again, T & N are delivering what was described of the characters in the book & how much they love each other when stuck in such difficult circumstances. Also glad you appreciated the phone call/text message scenes it was a great adaptation montage! Okay i’m gonna shut up now I could go on forever I love this little pink book and the movie so much.
