Something Bricky does not mention about Craftworld Eldar:
-Even though every Eldar soul is pulled toward Slaanesh, each Eldar faction has found a way to avoid being eaten. The Craftworlds use waystones, psychic gemstones on the clothes or armor that absorb their soul upon death. If recovered afterward, these stones can be plugged into The Infinity Circuit, the craftworld's combination library, ship AI and graveyard. In there they could exist forever.

    • @Maverick2736
      @Maverick2736 10 месяцев назад +13

And to elaborate on that, waystones carrying the souls of very skilled warriors or cunning strategists are also sometimes used to animate their war constructs/golems. Wraithknights being one the coolest cases: with two twins, one living and the other in a waystone, working together to pilot a giant robot.

The Eldar are sort of a commentary on the hedonic treadmill. Each faction represents a different way of dealing with the boredom and ennui brought on by excessive material comfort:
Drukhari: Embrace the treadmill and keep seeking greater thrills, no matter the consequences.
Craftworld Eldar: Go Buddhist. Seek to transcend your desires entirely.
Harlequins: Art. Devote yourself to creation, just to create.
Exodites (not mentioned by Bricky): Primitivism. Leave your modern comforts behind and start from scratch, just for the sake of having a challenge.
Also, don't worry about the short vid. Better to come at it when you're fresh. Glad you're enjoying the lore!

Craftworld Eldar don't try to transcend desire. They train themselves along each Path one at a time to master themselves feeling and indulging in a particular part of life and emotion. Then they move to another Path and keep repeating as they master themselves one piece at a time. They don't seek to overcome emotion and desire, but to not let it consume them.

One of the ways I’ve described the Eldar’s origins to people is using an artist as an example.
You can paint the finest masterpieces ever seen, yet there is a gnawing feeling within you that your work can be better, that it isn’t enough and is in fact - a failure in your eyes, despite having no mistakes, blemishes and has turned out exactly as you envisioned.
So you start to seek the best brushes, made of the rarest of animal hairs, but this isn’t enough after a time so you up your game - you decide a brush made of Eldar hair from the fairest maidens is what your work really needs, but even after this you decide that making a brush of such hair that is taken unwillingly will make your work even better.
Then from there you go a step further again: you make paints using the blood of others, to inject “life” into your art. You switch from using a normal canvas to a canvas made of skin, and eventually you find a way of keeping the flesh alive as you paint.
Then one day you might feel your own pain is needed to make your art truly ascend, so you begin self mutilation - stabbing yourself with knives, hooks etc
You can see where this is going.
Eldar feel everything we feel but in a much more precise form, so everything is elevated for them beyond what we can imagine, thus thier descent into hedonism and madness is much faster than ours would be.

Kind of a deep cut lore-wise, but about the parallel dimensions: It appears that any strongly willed enough entity (or large enough collection of weak-willed ones) can construct a pocket ("realm") within the warp, the topography between these realms being essentially whatever you want it to be.
Each of the chaos gods has their own realms this way, the Orks have "the great green". The webway then is described as a deliberately constructed network of tunnels, with many connections to real-space. New lore is working on peering into a similar realm for the emperor himself (also T'au? idk haven't read T'au). It has also been suggested our galaxy is but another pocket within the warp, held together by the unbending wills of the stars and planets themselves.

Bricky did get one major aspect of the Craftworld Eldar wrong. Their souls don't enter the warp when they die.
Now, normally, that would happen. However, the Craftworld Eldar wear crystals called "soul stones" which absorb an Eldar's soul upon death.
The stones are then collected and added to a matrix at the heart of each Craftworld.

The whole demons respawning thing is actually a fun point a lot of people bring up whenever discussions about how one franchise vs another franchise would do. The answer many have to how to beat Chaos is to take the Doom Slayer from the Doom games and throw him at Chaos. He's already hunting demons in his on world, he'd jump at the chance to wipe out an entirely new breed of demonic forces here. Plus like in 40k, Doom's demons respawn in Hell if you kill them...except if the Slayer is the one to make the kill. Every demon the Slayer kills stays dead. Throwing the Slayer at Chaos would excite Khorne to no end at first with the Slayer's eternal rage and extreme violence, but soon it will dawn on everyone that the hordes the Slayer cuts through aren't coming back.

The eldar are split into Craft worlds, Exodites, Drukhari and harlequins
CWE: Live on the craft worlds and are nomads essentially, they stave off Slaanesh through binding their souls to soul stones. These basically protect you from getting your soul eaten upon death, these can then be placed into wraith constructs or their craft worlds engine called the infinity circuit
Exodites: These actually left before the Eldar and are basically going primal mode. They ride dinosaurs and stave off Slaanesh by having their souls go to their planet's core because they live on Eldar maiden worlds
Drukhari: these are the depraved ones who live in the city of Commoragh which is the biggest city in webway. They stave off Slaanesh by preforming debaucherous acts upon slaves they capture as to divert slaanesh away from them for the time being.
Harlequins: these are eldar devoted to the Eldar's laughing God Cegorach. They serve him unconditionally and when they die they don't go to Slaanesh but go to Cegorach who somehow gets them back (we don't know how he does it, he just does). They protect another place called the black library which hosts all information in the universe and many named characters want to get into it because knowledge equals power.
These are four basic overall talking points but i recommend listening to Luetin09 regarding extremely in-depth deep dives in 40K. He's also really good to listen to when trying to sleep because his voice and way of explaining is relaxing and helps you sleep better. Hence a common joke in his comments is Sleep Gang

Addendum to the Eldar: Before the Birth of Slaanesh, they were all effectively immortal. They had their own Gods that sort of allowed them the ability to preserve their souls after the death of their physical bodies and were able to transfer them into new clone bodies. Imagine the debauchery and sadomasochism you could do when you didn't have to worry about actually dying. When Slaanesh was born she/he/it killed and ate most of the Eldar Gods and laid claim to all Eldar Souls and without Gods nothing could stop their souls from being immediately taken by Slaanesh.

Hope you doing well I’m glad I found your channel it’s been a blast and please don’t worry about it being short. Almost every other channel cuts it into hour or atleast thirty minutes so these bite sized chunks is a great change of pace. Either way we still will watch you because your a fun person that’s all that matters.

Well, probably the Flesh Tearers, too. Even _orks_ run away from the Flesh Tearers.

I agree with you that the quotes are super neat, specifically because you are getting lore from a side's perspective, and the fact it is colored by their culture and ethos then tells you more about their culture beyond the words.
It's something you don't see very often, this kind of layered writing.
There is a different intellectual property called Battletech that I am a fan of, that also does this. Many rulebooks in that game are written from the perspective of people in the universe: Clerks, mechanics, priests, nobility, etc. One faction may talk about a glorious victory, and another will call it a treacherous backstab, or pretend it never happened. So "truth" becomes what you as a reader wish to believe about the factions you sided with.
There was even a cheesy cartoon series on TV in the 90s, which was criticized for not being lore-accurate (among other things). It has since been retconned into an in-universe propaganda piece by one faction. So as kids, we weren't watching a show about what happened, we were watching the lies the faction told themselves about what happened, or more accurately, the lies this fictional faction told their fictional children. So when the cartoon made the heroes unrealisticly good and the villains look incompetent, now it is with the meta joke of "Oh, well *of course* this faction would represent it that way, this is propaganda for kids. But that's not how it *'really'* happened."
Which just adds that new layer of fun and silliness to everything.

One thing that I think people have a hard time grasping is just how bad the Eldar were during the final years. The Age Of Strife was the time period when the Eldar were messing up the Warp so bad that warp travel was so difficult as to be functionally impossible. Those where the years leading up to the birth of Slaanesh. It lasted from M25 to M30. That's 5000 years. The average Elder lives about 1000 years, assuming they are not exceptionally psychic or important from a literary perspective. Putting an average of 80 years for humans, which is close enough for our purposes, that would be roughly 400 years of human history.
So imagine that from 1623 to now, human society was basically... have you ever seen the movie The Sadness? Just like... THAT for four hundred years. That was what the Eldar Empire was. And since their debauchery had progressed to the point where no one else was able to travel FTL, that meant that they were able to do that to basically the entire galaxy because no one could call for help.

8:50 to go in more Depth.
The Primal Scream if the Birth of Slaanesh was so powerfull that it started Warp Storms in certain systemes and culled some in others.
It was so powerfull that any ships in warp transition at the time was just...lost.
Big E( the Emperor) knew this was coming and timed the launch of his Great crusade for when Slaanesh would burst into existance, putting an end to the Warp Storm that was engulfing the Solar System (to this point a Warp storm was surrounding the Sol System, meaning that Terra (earth) was cut off from his colonies on other planets outside the Sol system, and thats one of the reasons why the Humanity that existed before the Imperium of Man, just crumbled, separating and isolating all colonies from one anothers) and be able to launch back into the stars outside the Sol system.
The Epicentre of the Eldar Empir had it the Worst, that WHOLE star region was engulfed in a Gigantic Perpetual Warp Storm that became a direct pathway from the Warp into the Material Univers, a place called the Eye of Terror.
Nearly all the Eldar Worlds, where turned into Daemon Worlds.
Daemon worlds as the name implies are Worlds that became the Domains of the Chaos Gods and their powers.
The Mutagenic and "Fuck the physics" powers of the Corruption of the Warp, turned these worlds into living hells.
Some Have Red skies with perpetual rains of fresh boiling acidic blood.
Some have their soil covered in the shivering and moaning bodies of the fools that set foot on it, where glass shards are growing in their articulations and joints, making every move an excruciating agony
One Daemon World is actually a GIGANTIC Obese Man curled into Foetal position, the creases of his skin been canyons and mountains, his mouth been an endless pit of void and the whole "world" his quaking from the shivers he has while Dreaming.

One of the most fascinating parts about the craftworld eldar is the path of the warrior. The path of the warrior was founded by Phoenix lord Asurmen shorty after the fall. He along with 7 others created several Martial arts based around the aspects of the Eldar god of war Khaine. Asurmen Became the aspect of Khaine as a soldier and taught the eldar how to be soldiers and wield a shiriken Catapult. Fuegan Became the Aspect of kahine as a destroyer and taught the eldar how burn thier foes with flamers and meltas until nothing was left. Jain Zar became the aspect of the banshee and taught women how to screem and stun thier enemies before hacking them to pieces with banshee blades. Aspect warriors are the eldar's answer to space marines. Phoenix lords are like primarchs and they can never truly die. Every time a Phoenix lord dies they are reborn to fight again once a warrior dons thier armor. The warrior ceases to be and the Phoenix lord is reborn to fight once more. How does an eldar become an aspect warrior? They visit a shrine on thier craftworld and train under an exarch, one who has mastered that particular way of warfare similar to a martial arts dojo with the exarch being the sensei. The eldar are the most underrated faction imo. Hence why they are my favorite.

The main proof Chaos is invincible, unfortunately, is that it exists. In the Warp, Chaos has existed infinitely into the past, present, and future. This means there has never been a way to stop it and that there never will be. Or else it wouldn't have existed in the first place.

The only one chill in the entire Warhammer 40K universe is Nurgle.
Painting Craftworlds? Now that would be a bit problematic. Did you hear him say "continent sizes"? That wasn't a turn of phrase. If you got a craftworld to scale with the other space ships, it would probably fill the entire room. Those pictures might be pretty, but they do not do justice to the true scale of a Craftworld. You can fit entire fleets inside those humonguous vessel's hangars.
Something he failed to mention about the Eldar is that every single one of them is a psyker and a damn strong one. They could do absolute wonders with their powers and a single Eldar Farseer could devastate an entire planet with ease on their own, but due to how Slaanesh thirsts for their souls that is no longer the case. Every time you use psychic powers, it means opening yourself up to the warp. The more power you draw, the more vulnerable you become to attacks from warp entities and for Eldar that means, if they use their powers unprotected, Slaanesh will rip their souls from their bodies. So they have to use a whole lot of protective gear, which keeps them safe, but dampens their powers to a mere shadow of their full potential, but even this shadow is quite daunting for Humans.
Humans on the other hand are able to use gear that amplifies their pyschic powers and yet even with this amplification, the strongest Human psykers barely reach the average Eldar psyker in term of power, despite the latter being able to only use a fraction of their full psychic strength. But that also means that Eldar souls shine like beacons to any Demon, not just Slaanesh.

The Eldar are one of the main reasons why 40K is as messed up as it is and though they couldn't really help it, being born whole by the Old Ones to fight the Necrons and the C'tan, my sympathy for their plight crumbles when you realise that they haven't learned a thing. Knowing how badly it went with Slaanesh and looking to not repeat that, they're looking to repeat it through the Infinity Circuit and creating an Eldar god of death to fight Slaanesh.

the birth of slaanesh with the creation of the Eye of Terror also severely fucked up Humanity, with the birth the entire warp was thrown into a massive storm that effectively cut humanity up into countless isolated groups and started a Dark Age, when the storms died down enough for warp travel to be relaible again 10,000 yrs later, the Emperor stepped forth to unite humanity

My experiences of Warhammer are that I will never win any dice fights. When I was younger I played for a while with Dwars in Fantasy Warhammer but lost interest since dice just are not my friend. One of my friends who was an active player decided to make a 40K Eldar army for a test game for us and he was sure I could accomplish something, basically he put up an unit that let me make a 100 shots a turn, basically throw a 100 dice with pretty high accuracy... on the first turn I used them I hit with propably 10 and wounded with 4. Quickly lost the game after that.

Yes chaos or the gods is unkillable but you can make them have no power or influence anymore, basically irrelevent.
Pretty much kill them because they feed on the humans belief and carnage or other stuff for them.
As the emperor was close to fixing and destroy chaos for good with mankind not being influenced as much by them anymore.

I think you TECHNICALLY CAN paint a craftworld... but thats for a completely seperate game called "Battlefleet Gothic" which was a 40k spinoff game that is, instead of being boots on the ground combat, it's about the space combat in the setting (so all of their starships and escort ships fighting in space)
Edit: never mind, apparently the craftworlds are not a usable ship for battlefleet gothic... which kinda makes sense, since those are generation ships, not warships. maybe the closest thing would be people have made them themselves as terrain or objective marker kinda things
