Sometimes you end up criticizing something because it means so much to you. To be clear, that's really the point of this video - we love the Sailor Moon universe and multiple interpretations of the story, but it's sad to see it hit a point where it seems more important to throw Usagi on a box of chocolates or sell luxury clothing than it is to tell interesting stories. Thank you all for watching! If you enjoy the video, we'd love to hear from you. We also have a store, cosmobunny.shop , where you can use code SAILOR for 10% off your first purchase! We have some smaller channels too like a let's play channel here - www.youtube.com/@realdegenerateplays and a channel where we look at RPGs and JRPGs here - www.youtube.com/@DJayRPG

The sad truth is Naoko isn't passionate about it now. She is more interested in things like car collecting than in making stories, but she cares enough to maintain creative control so nobody else can do anything with it.

I feel like the only Manga Creators in a Group would be interested in
Sailor Moon and would like to expand it alongside with other Franchises that share the same universe is CLAMP.
Yes! You read my Comment. I'm talking the Creators of CardCaptor Sakura, Magic Knight Rayearth,
Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, Chobits, and many others.
If anything, I rather have a Small Manga Group buying the Sailor Moon Franchise than letting some Greedy Delusional Corporations like Disney and WB, especially both of those Companies. The ones that own Marvel and DC Comics.

That just makes me want to cry I can’t believe she just doesn’t care anymore. How can you make something so lighthearted and amazing and then throw it away like it doesn’t matter. I get she made it but there are so many people that have fallen in love with this series over the years that it’s not just hers anymore. It’s everyone’s and no one just wants to let it go like she does..

@@icecreamhero2375true but I think it comes off a bit tacky when they're still slapping her face on everything like talked about here and you had creators like Toriyama who were interested in their work up until they tragically passed. It kind of makes people feel like an artist is lazy in some ways when they're cashing in but not making anything. She has every right to do it but I find it a bit sad and I think a lot of other people are not a fan of this mindset that creators have when they do this.

@@visionary1138 I mean I'm not a fan of that Mindset either when it comes with Original Creators that doesn't want to continue Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon's Story by giving her a Manga Sequel like CLAMP did with CardCaptor Sakura with
Sakura Kinomoto's Story Continuation like CCS Clear Card. Even if the Sequel doesn't do well compared to the 90s Manga, at least we got a Continuation with Sakura Kinomoto. So I don't see why Naoko Takeuchi doesn't want Usagi Tsukino to have a Continuation or have her Daughter Chibiusa Tsukino have her own Series, or even better.. Have both Usagi's Sequel and Chibiusa's Own Series as well..
Like Degenerate Jay said about Sailor Moon Merchandise being so damn Expensive that even Celebrities can afford to buy them while we the fans from other parts of the World if not Japan can't afford to get these Expensive Sailor Moon Merchandises that we wanted, while you got CLAMP a Small Manga Group that makes and collaborates with other Companies and Franchises that helps make Merchandise for CCS, MKR, Tsubasa Chronicles, Chobits, Code Geass, Clamp School Detectives, and many others. CLAMP do make Expensive Merchandises, but they don't over price everything unlike Naoko Takeuchi..
So.. Something tells me that Naoko only Target Celebrities instead of the Fans of her Beloved Franchise.. while the Creators of CLAMP Targets both Celebrities and the Fans. So whose better at making decisions with their Anime/Manga Franchises?
I'll let you people in the Comment Section decide and.. have your own Opinions about this.

Why isn’t anyone interested in that throwaway line by Nelhellenia that implied both she and Queen Serenity were immigrants to the solar system, which in turn implies that the moon kingdom was a relatively recent thing? Who’s Princess Serenity’s Father? Why did Queen Serenity tell little Princess Serenity that she needed to keep her inner light burning bright, and how did she know that was the key to keeping Chaos at bay? Why did Queen Serenity visit the Galaxy Cauldron? Why was Tuxeudo Mask the Sailor Senshi of both the Earth and the Sun? How did Queen Serenity meet Luna and Artemis, and how do Phobos and Deimos factor into this picture? Had the Sailor Quartet been sleeping in the Amazon since the time of the Silver Millennium ? Finally, what’s the deal with Sailor Cosmos-what’s her backstory; how long had the war that ravaged her planet been going on and what were the circumstances that caused Sailor Chaos to appear? So many unanswered questions, and at this point it’s unlikely we’ll ever get any official answers from Naoko herself.

What about some new sailors we haven’t met before with new stories and new villains? It doesn’t just have to be the same story over and over again. As much as I love it, it’s going to get old eventually if it continues to only be rebooted in various musicals, animes, etc. it reminds me of the frieza arc in DBZ where it’s constantly rehashed in video games over and over again.

Toei will never focus on Sailor Moon as much as they did in the 90's. It's not profitable for them: they don't own total rights to it, contrary to Precure.
They surely aren't going to do self-competition. Naoko on the other hand seems to have no intent of changing this situation by handing, for example , the franchise to another studio, or I don't know, creating new stories related to the franchise. So, selling overpriced, "aulic" merchandise aimed to ADULTS, not kids, is the way they'll be doing things(and are doing for a long time).

We know Naoko wanted Ami to be a cyborg, but Osabu said no. She wanted to end the DK arc with everyone dying. Osabu said no. She wanted Usagi to have white hair. Nakayoshi told her yellow would pop more. She wanted the Starlights to have short hair, Bandai told her short haired dolls didn't sell well. The anime was struggling at first so Bandai? Toei? Someone told her she had to come up with something they could make into a successful toy, prompting the Moon Stick. I'm just talking about stuff like that. There may have been more executive meddling that we're not aware of; who knows. But we know from the ROLa magazine interview, for instance, that Naoko felt very rushed while working on the manga, that she did butt heads with the old men executives at Nakayoshi, and that the Sailor V manga is more an example of pure, unadulterated Naoko because she wasn't under the same constraints/pressures as she was with the Sailor Moon manga.

I feel like there's so much potential for more Sailor Moon media just like how there's multiple different Dragon Ball anime series. If the creator or people in the anime side got permission they could have adapted Sailor V, side stories and bonus chapters, and/or go into anime only stories by expanding the universe and lore such as having a series based on the characters past lives or their lives in the future Crystal Tokyo. I read that the creator herself, Naoko Takeuchi got burnt out when creating the manga. I wonder how she feels about it now decades later. It would be nice to get more story even if she's just giving notes to anime writers. In a perfect world, Sailor Moon would have gotten a great anime adaptation that expanded on concepts from the manga. Sailor Moon Crystal clearly had production issues especially in the first two seasons and the animation and pacing were the two biggest issues for many people including newcomers to the franchise. Even if it improved later, it doesn't change the fact that the first two seasons were difficult for many people to watch. Meanwhile, other reboots got handled a lot better like Ranma 1/2 and Fruits Basket and got many people into those franchises. I have yet to see that level of hype or love for Sailor Moon Crystal as I have seen for other reboots. In fact, many anime-related RUclipsrs barely mention Sailor Moon. It's not present in discussions in the anime community.
Also, in the last decade or two there have been less and less shoujo anime to the point that there have been years that no shoujo anime aired. Sailor Moon is the best-selling shoujo anime franchise, but it's been treated terribly especially in the West since Netflix took over and did barely any marketing. They released the movies once the hype died down and most people already pirated it since there was no news for a while. Due to poor marketing there are still many people who don't even know there's another anime and thus barely any anime discussion of it in the general anime community. In the last decade or two, shoujo franchises have not gotten many if any video games. If this is how badly they're treating the most well-known and best-selling shoujo anime franchise I can't imagine how much more difficult it is for other shoujo properties. There are many reasons for this, and the main reason is misogyny. Most people who make decisions in the anime industry are men who don't read shoujo manga and don't know how to market towards a female audience. There have been several articles and videos made about misogyny in the animanga industry and community. I highly recommend the RUclips channel, Colleen's Manga Recs for this topic.

Honestly I'd rather have a shortage of official Sailor Moon media than having the entire franchise spoiled due an excess of awful entries. The story ended and that's a good thing, with it flaws and all it wasn't ruined by unnecessary sequels or an unforgivably disappointing finale that tainted the entire thing.
Think of Star Wars, it went from being one of the most beloved film trilogies that united geeks, film connoisseurs and mainstream audiences to a neverending parade of flops that alienated casual viewers and infuriated fans. Most of Star Wars now ranges from lukewarm to absolute rubbish. Do we really want the same for Sailor Moon?
Sometimes is best to let things come to an end, not every story needs to be expanded to oblivion, in fact most don't benefit from that at all. It already happened to other of my favorite IPs ever, the Alien saga. It was perfectly good as it was, I even liked the 4th installment, is not as good as the 3th one and is definitely not as masterful as the first two, but it was fine as it was. Then Prometheus happened and everything went downhill from that.
I guess it would be cool to see the rest of the manga adapted, in fact I think that not adapting at least some of the short stories into SMC was a mistake as some of those stories can be perfectly integrated into the main narrative in a way that feels organic. Just some random self contained filler episodes that allows to understand the characters better, and I specially crave to see my most beloved Sailor V finally come to life thanks to animation, even if just as a single a special and not the whole story, but I'd much prefer to be left there waiting for more than a lackluster entrie into the franchise that makes more harm than good.
In conclusion I want to live the rest of my life thinking that Sailor Moon is a concept that could tell so much more than what it did instead of franchise that shouldn't have to do that.

In this day and age, we get sequels and prequels shoved down our throats because companies are too greedy to create new franchises, too scared to try new things and too interested in indoctrinating us with the top percents ideologies.
Sometimes there is immense value in just letting a franchise be the way it is and not ruining it by adding something that shouldnt be part of the story to begin with.
I also want to respect Naokos wishes, and I can kinda see why she wouldnt want to make more stories because it may expose the plot holes and non functioning machinations of the series.
Do I have a problem with the exorbitant amount of merch? No. I actually really like it. When I grew up, there was no Sailor Moon merch at all. The only thing I could ever get ahold of were the anime magazines and I was gifted a Sailor March doll. So I am more than happy that there is so much stuff I can pick and choose from now. And even though I would never be able to afford the Jimmy Choo stuff, Im still happy to see it existing.
If there is something for me to absolutely hate, its the scalpers that abuse Sailor Moons popularity to blow up the prices. But they do so to other franchises too, so Ill hate them no matter what it comes down to.

Tbh though it's weird to watch people like Oda who are so committed to this work and the art or even Toriyama who is no longer with us and passed caring but then Naoko is obsessed with just selling people stuff like a used car salesman. Then people rush to claim she's doing a lot on Hunter X Hunter which is possible, but that's more her husband's work. I suppose her financial success supports him but at some point it comes off like an artist who doesn't care about their art beyond merchandising opportunities. It's a free world to do so but it's also pretty fair to then view that artist as greedy or uncreative.

I play Sailor Mars in a cosplay comedy show and one of my fav. go-to jokes is the amount of ridiculous merchandising the franchise has. And don't get me wrong, Sailor Moon will always have a place in my heart. The 90s anime is what got me into anime and the girl power at the time really spoke to middle-school-me. I didn't mind the filler; I love any episode or arc where the senshi got to live their tween lives and I found them each relatable. It was something children's media didn't have much of the mid-90s; showing different sides of girlhood and that there's no wrong way to express it. I was hoping Crystal would be some combo of the greatest hits in the Sailor Moon franchise; the toku version did an amazing job going deeper within each sailor senshi (particularly Mercury). I have my critiques with Crystal and yes, I do get annoyed being called a "fake fan" because much of the manga's weaknesses are apparent in Crystal (ie: the senshi being regulated to a Greek Chorus later in the series and "oh! I guess we love the generals now" without much development). Don't get me wrong, I love the merch but I would be ok if the series were taken into the hands of people who are passionate about the series. Naoko seems to be resting on her laurels at this point.

I also liked the filler a lot in the 90’s show, it’s nice to watch something that has serious themes while also being a fun tween girl hanging out kind of show. I love seeing the girls interact and do fun things together and be the best friends they’re supposed to be. It reminds me of bratz!

Good luck on keeping this video up. I've had many of mine taken down and even received a strike from Toei once a video gains enough traction. I recently received a strike over a couple years old video compiling all Sailor Moon attacks and I ended up deleting dozens of videos with over a million views. They don't care about growing the brand or fanbase when they are striking it's most ardent supporters.

    • @magicaljill

That’s very odd, what was the grounds of the strike on your video? Because technically they have to abide by fair use laws if they are operating in America with distribution, which the brand is. Otherwise, they would have to retract all of their business from the country, and even then they wouldn’t legally have grounds to stand on if your work is transformative.

@@magicaljill It just says youtube received a copyright removal request of my video, so they took it down and gave me a strike.
I started making Sailor Moon videos in 2022 when I made a video about whether or not the song Moonlight Densetsu would be in the just announced Cosmos movie. It was clips of show with me talking over it discussing the history of the song and my thoughts about it. Clearly transformative and fair use. Toei took it down last year and rejected my dispute. By that time the movie was out, the questions I posed had been answered and I felt like the video had served its purpose. In the making of that video I had made clips of the openings and attacks all edited to play all at once on one screen. Those videos blew up and far exceeded my original video that inspired them. When searching "Sailor Moon" my videos were always in the top results with over 250k views. That is why they struck me I believe. Mind you, I'm not monetized. I drive a truck for a living and just do this for fun. 😅
Toei has a history of striking youtube content and Japan in general has an outdated view on these things. Just look at Nintendo. 😅 If you search "Toei Copyright Strike" in youtube there's tons of videos of them hitting creators with millions of more views and subscribers than me.
Like I said, I just make videos for fun and I don't have the time or energy to fight a multi-national billion dollar company. Toei are assholes. 😁

The problem is that the American public likes to criticize and cause problems for Japanese properties.
The people in charge of bringing the work to the U.S. have earned the hatred of mangakas and those who love anime and manga in Japan. I must clarify that the work was made for the Japanese and by the Japanese and I put myself in the place of the author, if my work is taken to the American public and those in charge of doing so censor it, change it, add things that have no reason to be added and dub it with errors or agendas in between, it is obvious that I would not want my work and things related to my work to be taken there.
The toxic side of the fandom will want changes, censorship or localization which is really the same thing and it's a real shame that anime and manga has become popular because people who don't have to be involved with it (tourists) pollute and give a bad image to the real fans.
If they want to change and make the western market attractive to Japanese authors then those who damage Japanese properties should be denounced and condemned. These are the localizers, those who censor anime and manga, the dubbing actors who express opinions that have nothing to do with the source material and the American press that seeks to cause controversy where there is none in fictional material that should not be regulated in any way.
By the way, I am not from the US.

When Sailor Moon Crystal was announced 11 years ago, the one and only product I wanted to see was new, 1/6 scale/Barbie sized dolls. Not expensive, weirdly proportioned Pullip dolls. Not articulated figures. Plain old dolls like the ones that were sold worldwide in the 90's in regular boxes and sold in a store like Toys R Us or Wal-Mart. It would have been a great chance to maybe re-release some of the 90's style dolls or make dolls for characters that never got made in a style inspired by the 90's ones. I feel like regular dolls are the only Sailor Moon products we haven't gotten. The Style Dolls are the closest, but they're a little small, expensive and it's just the main 5, plus Chibi-moon and Princess Serenity.

I totally understand everyone's feelings about Sailor Moon's status and the future on where it can stand at right now. I definitely do agree with you- Sailor Moon deserves so much more as it's one of the golden 90s anime & G.O.A.T.s in Anime that also help bring anime to the world and I grew up watching the show as a child and absolutely I fell in love with the entire series from watching the 90s anime plus Crystal / Cosmos to reading the manga to collecting SM Goods and merch as I truly love the show so much for always inspiring me and making me happy. I do would love to see the continuation of the Sailor Moon series with Chibiusa becoming the next Sailor Moon following Cosmos as we deserve to get a Sailor Moon sequel, but I truly understand that Naoko wants to take a break from making more Sailor Moon and whatever decision she makes, I'll always support her in her goals and plans. I do say that Sailor Moon really needs a new video game for 2025 because it's long overdue and we need one for game consoles like XBOX ONE or PS5 etc and omg I do have plans for how they can make one it inspired by gameplays like Naruto Shippuden and also use animation like Miracle 4-D (plus Sailor Cosmos can be Preorder & DLC for everyone to get). And finally we need to get more Sailor Moon figures like going back to the S.H.F. Figurearts and other collection sets to complete as they were currently working on them until they just suddenly stopped. I absolutely love Sailor Moon so much and I want the show to be treated with so much love and respect like other anime shows like Naruto & One Piece, this show makes everyone so happy and inspires them and it just gives you the happy feels of the universe. I hope it gets a lot of love, and we Moonies also keep the show alive as we love and support it. Sailor Moon deserves so much more and I hope it gets all of the love worldwide.

I guess Takeuchi is just fed up with being a mangaka. Her two series after SM failed, she had plenty of headache with the 90s anime, licensing disasters and it's just my guess, but sometimes I think she was forced to draw Stars. Just look at Dream arc. Doesn't it end perfectly? Also the amount of anguish and tragedy in Stars could just be a reflection of her being tired of that. Thus, ever since early 2000s, married and with a son to raise, she just decided to harvest the fruits of merchandising, making one or other new illustration for new editions and her website. It's such a pity, since SM has a stunning potential for spin-offs, novels, animated shorts and of course, Sailor V anime. But anyway, she's doing nothing wrong, since anime and manga ate meant to be commercialized, first and foremost, otherwise they won't succeed.

My forture teller tells me we will get an anime adaptation of Sailor V someday. No one is forcing us to buy the expensive/overpriced collab merch. The Glitter & Glamours line was a great price imo. As a fan I’m very disappointed, that instead of being able to buy figures of characters that were never produced, we get panties and sweets. I would love to see anime based on Sailor V manga. I took interest in the DiC dub in late 1998. In February of 1999, I stumbled on ROMs and emulators. I downloaded many of the Super Famicom video games and tried them. I laughed hard at how they seemed like cheap ripoffs from Double Dragon and Street Fighter II. The AVGN made fun of movie licensed NES and SNES games. I am sure he could have drawn a comparison about how all the budget went into the license and not in the playtesting.
The Super Famicom game "Another Story" was alright for an RPG.
Back in March of 2022, I met a team of Sailor Senshi cosplayers at a comic con, and I enjoyed their piece of the event. They asked where they should take it next. I told them of the Another Story Super Famicom videogame and mentioned Opposito Senshi. I called it a take on the evil twin trope. I also talked about how there were obscure musicals, and maybe some heroes and villains weren't known well. They found that interesting. They had a trivia game, and I did well.
I loved seeing the subtitled versions of the original series. However, I could not get into Crystal or anything else. I saw the original at a special time in my life, and I couldn't enjoy a remake because it couldn't recapture a feeling unique to me. I was 14 at the time, and ages 14 and 15 were the best years of my life.
Even if this wasn't a case, people just tend to get attached to the first version of anything they see.
People will argue that Crystal followed the manga more closely. People discuss how much the DCEU and MCU follow the comics all the time. I just couldn't really get into the comics. Well, I did enjoy The Killing Joke, and saw how well bits and pieces were fitted to 2019 Joker. That was my favorite movie of all time, but I definitely would not have needed to know a thing from The Killing Joke to have enjoyed it that much. That wouldn't motivate me to go and see Crystal and so on.
I think about how either this or DBZ gave many people a desire to travel to Japan. I felt like I was ahead of the curve, because I wanted to travel there for a different reason. It was 1989. I was 5. The Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo went on sale, and it sounded like the coolest thing ever. To 80s kids, turbo power sounded like magic. To my childish logic, twin turbo could only mean ultra magic.
They had a Sailor Moon STD testing and condom campaign. I found that hilarious. It seems like an odd place to wear a costume.

I myself and my partner are both passionate fans however I will say in reference to the Jimmy Choo Collab, it is for all fans so I disagree with what you said. I’m not sure if you’re familiar but Sailor Moon has a heavy history in the world of Haute Couture fashion so think of brands like Dior and Chanel which are literally staple brands of the franchise Princess Serenity is literally wearing a Dior gown from 1992. The outersenshi are seen in various pieces as well, many fans of the franchise whom I respect were able to obtain some of these beautiful pieces. Naoko has always been a lover of fashion so I know how much in particular that collab meant to her. It is unfortunate that not all fans can access these items but I don’t think it’s a cash grab it’s a celebration and testament to how influential sailor moon is even in the world of fashion so I don’t think we should just discredit it just because not all were able to purchase. As a fashion model within the fashion industry I can say that Sailor Moon is powerful in many communities that you may not be aware of. I do agree that more stories are needed. There is another sailor moon song you likely missed. "Uranus" by the group Nanowar of steel. Love the comedy behind the idea and the other group's collaboration with them. Heavy metal song so the usual content warning.

God, thank you for saying this. I have been saying this for years. I have to scroll past anything sailormoon related online just to preserve my own love of the series. I just hate the way its being squeezed to death with shitty merch catered to rich people and charging 100+ dollars for "premium" plastic wands. Don't even get me started on the way western SM fans behave towards each other.
I don't want a Sailor V adaptation because it will be lifeless and bad like all of Crystal/Cosmos was.

I recall that the DiC dubs ignited my interested in the original Japanese versions of Sailor Moon in the 1990s, mainly because of the missing episodes and cut scenes from much of what was brought over. I even had the early "inaccurate" Bandai 12-inch dolls, a couple of books, a shampoo bottle with rooted hair on Usagi-chan's head, and a set of Sailor Moon bedsheets, which were the ONLY known pieces of American merch I had at the time while anything else I had were either Japanese or some cheap Chinese bootlegs (ie reproductions of CD soundtracks).

If they wanted to make a new series how a prequel telling the story of what actually happened in the Moon kingdom before Queen attacked and destroyed it.
A series with chibi Usagi as a teenager and new sailor scouts
A series with sailors that based on the Zodiac (kinda like Saint Seya) but with more focus on the zodiac signs Leo,Aries,Taruas,Virgo,Sagurtius etc

I completely agree! I feel they cheapened it by making movies and not seasons for the rest of Crystals show. I think they have so much content to work with and choose not to and it's sad. I'm a fan from when I was little. I wouldn't mind seeing Sailor V or even a continuation of Chibiusa and the Amazoness Quartet. The fans keep it alive and I feel the creator should remember that.

To be honest, I prefer them making merch, even with flawed decisions than milking as making new animated "content" for content's sake, without any idea.
My biggest wish for Sailor Moon, as 90s anime fan that got into series in 2008, would be them separating manga/Crystal and 90s anime continuities more. They are very different stories! It's not that Sailor Moon added "fillers" and then adapted manga faithfully, story is reinterpreated, characters are often very different personality-wise, atmosphere is different. I personally really like anime Rei and anime Mamoru and Usagi/Mamoru (yes, I know I am in the minority) and feel like they are often dismissed because they are different from manga. If continuities were more separated officially, I think they would be treated more like live-action versions, their separate characters. I would also love to see some short stories set in 90s anime or exploring the lore that is different from manga more, without using manga ideas. Maybe as anthology manga set in 90s anime universe.
I also like the idea of vidoe game!

I believe the problem with this is that they’re trying to keep something going in order to make money with or without the creators (in this case Naoko) their say so and sometimes we seen that with other brands outside of anime or even here with Marvel and DC.
If they really want to be bold then I wouldn’t mind them seeing doing crossovers with other shows like for example something in the realm of the Kamen Rider for instance or even something from super sentai, The latter of which already has like three different anime shows that are based around it.

When bad remakes were discussed, I always hated what Michael Bay did to 80s Saturday morning cartoons. He did it to Transformers and the Ninja Turtles. I remember joking "What part of the 80s will he screw up next? Thundercats or He-Man?"

Also the life of sailor moon and friends after the main story concludes that's illuded to in manga that would tell us if the Pegasus ever gets saved and returned to life from being incased in stone would've been nice and provided closure, also how sailor moon becomes queen of new crystal Tokyo and what happened to her human friends and parents...

I been thinking about this for a while… and I feel the same actually. It’s really frustrating…
Like the new movie was INCREDIBLE, but I was hoping in that time, to have a new manga, or new game, or Sailor V… or a Sailor Chibi Moon spinoff…
And it seems like the people who worked on it were, yes uninspired, lazy, sloppy… this is like my religion… I’m happy to have new content but it’s a slap in the face when I think I could have given so much more to it, just in the small details, idk.

  • @RowleyFan2
    @RowleyFan2 13 дней назад

I agree with the comments saying they're good with Sailor Moon being done as a story. Sure, it would've been cool to see this or that, but honestly I rather Sailor Moon released merch than got bloated AF like the Star Wars franchise, and totally lost its charm that way. I think that's the reason why the merch still sells well, the story is DONE, and it's so easy for people to grab the manga or the anime and be done in a reasonable amount of time, and join the fandom.
I do agree some of the merch is a total lazy cash grab, but once in a while they release some really cool stuff. And I do think I wish Takeuchi would release more new art work that was a bit more complex, with the characters wearing different clothes, and using different angles and poses. While the character designs and style are lovely and iconic, admittedly she has a pretty limited range as an artist, at the very least I would've loved to see her level up her art to be more dynamic.
OR if anything, it would've been cool to see more art pieces come out from the anime artists. A lot of the most iconic drawings are actually from the 90s anime more than the manga, and for good reason, the 90s anime gave the franchise the main iconic look and color palette.

So this is all just speculation and assumptions. However, considering the deviations the OG anime took, how she had a hard time collaborating with the people working on it (IDK about crystal tho but Toei is a mess.) So with that in mind, she may just be burnt out on trying to get her themes/narratives/overall story out how SHE wants them told, when doing any collab that tells a story (anime/games/manga.) I LOVE the OG anime, but compared to the manga it's basically an AU; Crystal didn't get a handle on the art until the movies. HELL they couldn't even format the latest artbook well (it's so bad).
As much as fans and myself want more Sailor Moon media, the media side has not been kind to the creator, herself and as much as it pains me. Naoko has a right to walk away, do simple collabs by letting them slap her art on something or slightly change the visual look of a character to match what the collab is. It could be a lot less taxing on her than wrestle with other creatives on how her stories should be told.
That said, I don't disagree on how hollow this feels to see Sailor Moon be a franchise. Sailor Moon was always a story first, franchise second and over the years it has just become a franchise and as people who have seen over consumerism, we read that as just a cashgrab. Not saying it isn't but also not going to lambast her, considering how many times she's probably felt screwed over her own story.

Naoko got burnt out on Sailor Moon and Kodansha stole some of her art.. And while she has made amends with Kodansha, she may not want to go back to that.
