What is it like to speedrun resident evil 4 in virtual reality? Thanks to Oculus i was able to find out and it turns out its a ton of fun and super intense. Come with me as i explore and explain what makes the speedrun so cool and why no one has been able to finish one yet.

@@PlanetNateGaming Yes, I surprisingly actually managed to do it first try on my very first playthrough XD
There’s some differences between sitting and standing positions, and also the immersive combat and the quick-switch. I’m sure one of those combined would make the best possible combination for speedrunning. But it would still depend on dexterity a lot. And also not a lot of people can sit in VR for multiple hours in a row for speedrunning, so a lot of runners would most likely take breaks
When you speedrun resident evil 4 in VR what are the rules of speedruning can you stop the timer when you pause the game?
If it doesn't make you do actual real life backflips for the laser fields is it really doing a good job as a VR game

I love vr but I'm also in the group of "I want to fight a big kraken enemy that just straight slaps me into a wall at Mach speed and somehow I gotta not go splat then keep fighting" I think this would be a true challenge that would light the fire of vr 30x brighter in some people
That’s because it’s a quest 2 exclusive. Now, if it was a vive or valve exclusive? The possibility of full body capture for doing QTE’s is too juicy.

@@elusivedesert8530 that is a sacrifice I am willing to make. I already tried to turn around and run away playing Saints and Sinners in a panic and put a Quest sized hole in the wall.
Ashely is the way Capcom injects fear into Resident Evil 4: "You're not afraid for yourself anymore. But you must be afraid for Ashley, because you must protect her!" I love this idea.
That’s basically the idea, you literally play as a bodyguard the entire game
Legit before i got Ashley, the game didn't bother me at all, but the second I did, I felt nervous the entire time she was with me

When I first started VR, I took crushed ginger root pills about 15-30 minutes before playing. It's an old sea sickness remedy and it works great for VR motion sickness.

I did a more cost effective method... I just wore my old pair of glasses from a year ago and got used to the headache/disorientation. After a few days got used to it enough that my oculus didnt do anything to me anymore

For real though. The number of times I've tried to grab the knife only to grab a grenade by accident, and then proceed to drop the grenade at my feet in my attempt to let go of it.
Thats why i always have a flash equipped.
I've never done that before. For me it's grabbing items but I actually grab my knife, I don't do it anymore though.
the number of times i tried to gently throw a grenade (like, out the window, or while backpedaling from a horde of enemies) and it flung back onto the chest...
if you use "manual" config on how to throw grenades you have to actually remove the pin before it can explode, maybe it can help you avoid these accidents

Your Knife has a longer range in this game aswell not just cause of you being able to stretch your arm out it just has a longer reach which means some gem's that are embedded into the ceiling can be knifed only some though which can save ammo

Sadly, knifing slows you down so it probably isn't very good for speedrunning
@@jacktheripper7735 it does. The slow down itself lasts up to 2 seconds and it can kill the run if you don't manage your stuff right
@@jacktheripper7735 i mean saving ammo seems to be a bigger concern than 2 seconds of slowdown in a running section.. or not? Idk lol.
@@sid6645 just depends. The speedrun techniques aren’t optimized by its community yet, so we honestly don’t know until other people do it hundreds of thousands of times and crunch the numbers from there.
So glad I see that speed running is still coming to the VR version. Makes me wanna learn all the skips and master the timings. My little trick to getting motion sickness is a little patch that goes behind your ears that will help with the nausea. There’s also medicine you can take before jumping in. As for the leg dexterity you can either do squats to stretch while standing or try playing sitting down. But I for sure suggest just quick squats while you’re moving in game.
this is my first ever resident evil game and ive already gotten the infinite launcher and loving it. Watching Dante ravioli challenges on professional difficulty hype me up for my pro run

I'm so mad that this is only being released on Quest 2. I have a Rift S (Another Oculus product, mind you) that I bought about a year ago. I never would've shilled out the cash for it if I knew this bad boy would make it to the market. C'est la vie I guess, here's to hoping it eventually comes to other headsets!

Ever since HL:Alex came out I've been excited for the advent of more VR speedrunning, that run is legendary.
My only two gripes with the VR version of RE4 is the missing content, and the voice lines.
No assignment ada, No seperate ways, No mercenaries mode.
If the voicelines and cutscenes were blended a little better, they wouldn't be so noticeable - but It's kinda jarring seeing a sharp cut in the cutscene when Leon and Ashley drop into the garbage pit, or with Louis having to 'go back and grab something' in the Castle courtyard.
i agree, hopefully assignment ada and separate ways come in dlc later

The motion sickness is a temporary thing you get used to it after a few months but don't force yourself to keep going. Take breaks. I still get sick with spinning but I can't handle spinny rides or anything irl.
Presumably, if this is your first experience in VR, you are now able to express just how paradigm-shifting and magical this medium is?
For me, going from playing on a simple flat screen with everything fixed on a 2D plane, inside a finite screen size with very noticeable edges and borders, and all shown at less than 1:1 scale compared the real world around you so nothing is ever truly large or towering or intimidating, to literally standing inside the virtual world with wrapped all around you and everything shown at true 1:1 scale in proper 3D stereoscopy, with things literally towering over you and you actually have to tilt your head up just to see them properly was utterly revolutionary. And that's not even going into things like being able to naturally point, aim and shoot weapons, perform realistic reload animations, naturally grab weapons and items from you gun holder or stored on other parts of your body, use more realistic grabbing and hand motions to grab handles, open doors, use keys, turn levels, press buttons, etc. I honestly can't really go back flat screen trying to play these so-called realistic and immersive games and enjoy it in quite the same way anymore.

This quickly became my favorite VR game. Just finished my first playthrough the other day and about halfway through a professional playthrough now.
The way they left every room the same is amazing. I was expecting reduced enemy count or some other compromises, sort of like how they did RE7, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Only thing that would make it better is adding Mercenaries :)

Or ada's campaign because it builds upon the main story. I was baffled by its omission.
i'm waiting for someone do a glitchless run and go nuts like john wick, just moving foward and not even aiming the shots to kill, there are so many badass things you can do in this game in VR it's amazing

I consider it a blessing that I don't get motion sick at all. It's easy to have marathon sessions when you're playing a game as fun as RE4.

This seems a good place to say that I wish silent Hill was getting revived with the same energy as resident evil

I'm watching this as I just got done with a 6 hour VR sesh on RE4 lol. I never really played past Ganados Stronghold or Gigante Way in 2-3 back on the PS2, but I'm having such a blast with RE4 in VR, that it's my first time getting to the island in chapter 5 and beating the game.

Me and my Girlfriend have been blasting through this game. I've played RE4 on all of my consoles ever since I got it back on the ps2. The game being in VR genuinely makes the game 100times scarier than it it. Having to manually reload every gun while you're getting swarmed is terrifying.

I'm pretty sure the movement speed is the same as Leon's run speed in normal game, but it now gives you 360 degree movement all at the same speed no matter which direction you move instead of having tank controls where you can't strafe or run backwards
2:00 Smart man! Snap or god forbid smooth stick turn (meaning the camera) using the left stick is by FAAAAAAAR the biggest cause of motion sickness in VR! As the Quest 2 is fully wireless, simply turning your actual body is both less nauseating AND significantly more immersive to boot!
Fun fact about the shotgun in this version of the game it's the only gun that I'm aware of that will remain unloaded when you go to your inventory or get an upgrade from the merchant so I always unload it before getting the ammo upgrade giving me more shots in it

I’ve played over 400 hours of vr games and have my vr legs I don’t really get disoriented by most vr games but re4 movements is so fast that I left the black edge on movement if you turn it of it feels like Leon trying to complete with usain

tip while playing VR. when you move in game, move ur legs IRL, it might trick the brain to think ur moving and avoid sickness
I have been playing this in vr and one thing that you can do with the shotgun is to hold the shotgun with your left hand then grab your one-handed gun or knife for 2 or 3 attacks then drop the knife or gun and go back to two-handing the gun

I jumped in with full immersive settings and noticed how quick it is for me to get motion sick when running and turning the camera all around. Hopefully the more I play the more comfortable I get and the motion sickness goes away more and more. Either way it's still an incredibly fun version of this game and really happy with how they rebuilt it for VR.

Don't turn the camera with the left stick!!! That's the BIGGEST cause of VR nausea! The headset is wireless, meaning to turn the camera, actually just turn your actual body! (If playing seated, use a swivel chair).
@@Cooe. I was using the sticks to turn the camera pretty much 90% of the time LOL if I ever get back in the VR I'll try not to tho. it's just feels like the natural thing to tbh

When I got to the Krauser boss fight in my playthrough of the VR version, I was completely out of ammo and had no choice but to kill him with a knife, which I did successfully in a solid 2 minutes.

I just watched your Speedrun attempt on Twitch, had a thought about waterhall. I haven't tried it, but you know how on your first try, you left Ashley in the basement room while you cranked and she got grabbed? What if you can crank fast enough and go up the stairs to the cutscene trigger without Ashley? If so, it might be faster to leave her in basement to get grabbed then run to cutscene trigger and reload checkpoint to get her to teleport to you
Hey I am Chad Edwin... I just got an Oculus, and I bought RE4 as a starting game... I have beat the game on GameCube and the WII... Man did I get motion sick at first, but it passes... It is a lot harder in vr too... Great Video, thanks for the entertainment... Peace
Gaining your vr legs can take a while. I still got sick in phantom cover ops for while but didn't in things like Sorrento vr. u get used to it after while and then there aren't any problems.
Great video as always, Waifu! I would recommend try playing seated in your next playthrough and perhaps in a swivel chair as well. Complete game changer for me! This version of the game has quickly become one of my favorite games ever.
Btw, Del Lago is much more consistent in this version of the game. There’s not a lot of randomness involved and it can actually be pretty quick! Also if you do try to Speedrun it, definitely turn off cutscene QTE’s! We may not have ditman but we can skip krauser knife fight so at least there’s that!
For anybody who’s interested, there’s a small community of people already speedrunning the game including myself. Currently have some New Game+ runs up but am working on my New Game runs as well!

I think the reason Ashley is hated is because it turned the game into one big escort quest where all you hear is “LEON HELP LEONNNN!”

A good help is you can hold your handgun and knife at the same time, the knife doesnt help much but it does sometimes:)
Thanks to this video i was inspired to run the game and I got a 1:38 37 in ng+ normal witch is (wr) really though In a few days it will probably beaten by me or the person in second by a lot.

Vr version is small a bit different than the original, but not to much.
I say in vr people could speedrun the game faster than on Pc or Consoles.
