I have always wanted to learn how to do Niwaki - oh! pardon me- I have always wanted to learn how to cloud-prune? garden trees… and, you’re right, many people find it difficult to explain. I’m so happy to have found this.
I’d love to see playlists of particular trees that Peter has worked on over the years on this channel. So many times he will butcher a tree and say trust me in a few years it will come back stronger. It would be great to see the videos of trees as the years go by side by side.
If you see how that first scotch pine has grown, I’ve seen a previous video where Peter also pruned it up. I have the confidence it will fill out once again despite it looking sparse right now
@@murray821of course it will. I’m not doubting Peter in the least. But I’m saying I’d like playlists so we can see how he develops trees through the years
It only took an hour… + 60 years experience! Taking out those large branches is thrilling to watch, always a good decision in the outcome. I love your approach, Peter! Thank you for sharing and teaching your expertise and philosophical approach! And great camera work - props to Josh!
I really enjoy they way Mr. Chan uses pruning trees as a metaphor for life. He has no idea how cool he is. I think if I lived anywhere near his nursery, It would be a daily visit for me.
Mr Chan. You are a wonderful information source and i want to thank you for putting your vast knowledge on the internet for us to learn from. I've watched you for 3 years now and have been given so much info from you and your staff. Thank you. God bless.
Peter what a wealth of information. Structure, character, openness, the breadth of the tree, these are the term you use when you where pruning your trees. Key point was to trim back the needles so you be able to see the character of the tree, from there you will see paths in which you need to go. What a wealth of informational for a beginner. That’s what I do as an artist when I been working on a painting. You have to step back to see the overall painting, and do an analysis as to where you need to go in order to achieve your goal. Thank you Peter, this has been a very informative vlog, like all of the rest of your videos. 🙏🙏🙏😊
It's been 2 or 3 years since we seen the garden tree next to the pond have such a hard pruning and the group of pines. It's amazing how much can be removed every few years
Thank you for all your videos. I love to watch you work. You have an amazing talent and artistry that no computer can ever match. With the videos you are making many generations can share in your work. You are amazing. I am learning so much watching your videos. I always loved Bonsai but never had a chance to learn about it until now in my senior years. It's never too late to learn and appreciate all the beauty nature has to offer. You do beautiful work.
Dearest Peter, God Bless You as a Genius for perpetual care of our garden Maples. I would love on going care, pruning etc. of my new Maple garden I am creating, I do not want them to become overgrown and out of control ,for me. Please continue your quest ,please consider working with Mr Maple co in the USA as they are doing a bang up job supplying Japanese Maples and other complimentary trees and plants for sale. I love watching the videos, have little fear for technic. Some advice for Amazon good tools , would be greatly appreciated . Need better advice and direction for perpetual care of planted garden items and more Videos of garden tree care! Love you to the Moonrise and back!!! Lee
Another great video - thank you Peter. Very inspirational and we have a number of trees in our garden, which I am going to look at them from the niwaki viewpoint.
Beautiful pine! I have no issue with people calling it Niwaki, as it differentiates between this style of pruning, and traditional western style of just making the tree into a lollipop or lopping the top off
The tree is beautiful! Please make a video on how to start training a tree like that. As to where to prune to make the branches behave that way. Thank you!
From what I know and I’ve observed with my own ficus, aerial roots always begin growing when the tree is slightly root bound. I’ve never experimented with humidity domes or under watering to induce any but I’ve heard of people doing as such. Hopefully Peter can help you out at some point 👍🏻
_THANK YOU_ ... 🙏 😔 🙏 Dr. Chan, this is one of my favorite forms. A tree that is big, still wild, but controlled It was wounderful to see you working on the garden trees again. You guys are having a great growing season. They have grown so much. No one else seemed to mention it, but in the first part of the video there is a "ticking noise". Does anyone else hear it or well what is it? It is so regular it has to be "man made", but there are bird and insect noises too. I always enjoy being in the garden. 🙏 🖖 🙏 😔 🙏
@@peterchan3100 yes, we have been getting "just enough" rain such that we don't have to water regularly. And the UV indexes are low this year, interesting times, interesting times. 🙏 🖖 🙏 😔 🙏
Everything I've ever read says that structural pruning of this type should be done in late Summer or early Fall. June seems too early. It would be great to learn why this is wrong. Is it simply because Scots pines are so vigorous? The proper timing of pruning conifers would be a great video idea. If it is not correct to say prune candles in spring and branches in fall, why not?
I have a question for Mr. Chen. I have a Chestnut tree that I have bonsai and it is putting out a lot of long fresh growth. My question is when can I trim them back to produce more back budding on it? Thanks.
I have a twisted hazel and have pruned to reveal the lower trunks but would like to try pruning the upper area to reveal more twisted branches, Is it possible to use the same process as you have in this video? I realise there is a difference being evergreen and deciduous.
I am watching this video seven months after your upload, I wonder why you are pruning the pine when it is out of dormancy? Could that not possibly kill the tree?

The garden trees really add lots of atmosphere! May I suggest a quick video on ficus aerial roots if you dont already have one?

Yes you can
Very old tree Mr. Peter
I love all your bonsai videos!! I saw the reflection in the glass door of your camera person. Is she your granddaughter?
Audio is often poor. Get a bluetooth wireless clip on mic 🙏🏻

Can I grow simeler size off the tree or little bit smaller in the big pot???

Can someone take that chainsaw of him please. I love him but I'm scared.
He took that beautiful tree and obliterated it
He treats Josh terribly. Doesn’t even acknowledge when he makes a comment. He wants him to be silent and not heard.
Those big trees are stunning
