I was born in October 13 1972 in Lions Gate Hospital. I was half a year old when this was filmed. I have such fond memories growing up here, before it became over developed. It interesting to see cranes on some of the buildings early on in the footage. It’s like a harbinger of what this city has become. A continuous , over constructed mess, of the fabled great little city, that we all remember well. A real naive time. Like some of the comments . Before Expo86, that brought the whole world here!
@@KyleStansfeld-zi6gc I was born in '47 in Vancouver so I've seen a few more changes around here. Even Grace Hospital where I made the scene is long gone. It's enough to make a person feel old but what the hell. All my family heritage is in this area so here I still am., Multicultiville or not.
@JimErvin-d2i I’m glad you’re still around. The changes are are unbelievable and rapid! . I hadn’t been downtown in some time, and went over the Burrard Bridge, and voila 3 new apartment towers. Expo 86 really got the city into this change. It’s amazing to see false creek in the mid 80s, now that’s change..I’ve thought about moving! But the whole province has gone through huge changes. My mom left Kelowna cause of the change. My dad was born in 1947!, he passed in 2019. The sixties would have been a great time to live in Vancouver. Multicultural is fine, except whe it become a dominant thing. I’ve actually had people what is my accent, and I was born here🤣 All the best my friend, and kee, keeping on✌️
@@KyleStansfeld-zi6gc Thanks. I well remember Expo 86 and that asshole Premier Bennett who said "Invite The World" and the world came in a big way, to stay. And I remember the sale of the Expo lands to that Chinese guy, Lee Ka Shing or whatever his name was. Now all his friends and countrymen own most of the best land and whitey rents it. I feel like one of the few remaining white guys who still owns land around here. I think your father died too young, by the way.
2:23 video the Shareten landmark hotel with Cloud 9 Revolving Restaurant 1 hour to do a cycle took many dates there Steak or seafood or chicken dinner with some of the best sides you could get plus the view always changing. dinner and drinks + a tip less than $100.00 (went to my place got laid every time)
It's nice to see the Vancouver I remember growing up. I think a lot changed with Expo 86 when the city wanted a lot of foreign buyer to come in. Priced everyone else right out. Add to that the drug zombies and tent cities...I have no interest in going back there.
Vancouver has been known as a heroin hub since the 60's. There were junkies all over downtown, and Main and Hastings back then too. The other sad reality is, there are foreign buyers in every single large city in North America. It's not only Vancouver that they chose to buy up. Time moves on. Things change. As a Vancouver resident I cam glad to know that you have no interest in coming back here.
The company login the middle of the screen ruins the whole thing
I agree, and the cheesy 'how to be a salesman music' is even worse. Cheers!
Back when we actually were a livable city , im one of the lucky ones that remember those years

Maybe they'll have to change the city name to Multicultiville.

Lions Gate
The world was good then, now the world sucks.
No, the world sucked then too, you just didn't hear about it because the media back then was only local news, and the newspapers.
Really neat to see SFU!
❤❤❤❤
The video was good, the Music not so and that irritating logo.
아름다운 밴쿠버❤ 귀한영상 잘봤습니다😊
Good
Horrible music.....
Terrible! A loop over and over🤢

Yes I remember expo. All those people came and didn't leave. Then more and more. Real turning point.
