I met Martina at a café in Hongdae, Seoul 8 years ago when she was getting cake. I couldn't have been a more embarrassing excited fan and Martina was absolutely lovely to me and my friend. So sweet and humble. My friend didn't know who she was and told me after that he thought I met a friend. That's how genuinely sweet she was. I don't know why I'm sharing this now but I just felt like telling this story and how she gave me a great and happy memory, which I will always cherish :)

Yeees! I ran into her once about 10 years ago at the Hongdae subway station and she was sooooo kind, patient, and friendly to my friends and I even though we were acting like stupid fan girls hahaha. She seems like a genuinely good person and very down-to-Earth.

Honestly? I thought that too, but after seeing this video I realized that probably wasn't really the case. Whilst Martina is obviously talented, this video feels vastly different from what EYK used to produce. I still like it, but I can sense the absence in other (technical) aspects of the video. On another note, it can't be easy to fall back into the procedure after all this time. Hopefully within time Martina will find and perfect her own flavor and flow :D

I absolutely understand the small adventures thing. We didn't have much money growing up so my mom would just randomly take us to new places in our city by public transport. Start at our nearest station and then switch to any different bus or tram line whenever it felt right. Might not sound interesting to a lot of people but it really was. Now I still do similar things as an adult, a small adventure is already taking another route through the huge park nearby.

In that same vein, and even though this will sound weird to other people, but whenever I go on vacation to a major city (NYC, San Francisco, etc), I like to walk around during rush hour be it lunch or after work. It’s my way of immersing into the energy of the city and seeing how locals really are like. I see where the popular local lunch spot is or a line of people grabbing corner vendor foods and I see how they go about their day. I think it’s a better experience than paying my way through tourist traps. (Except Los Angeles. I will always try to avoid rush hour in LA as much as possible LOL!)

    • @PriscyYip
      @PriscyYip 3 года назад +8

I can so relate. Every trip to Japan would involve me just walking around a city for hours on end, occasionally stopping by a convenience store to grab some sustenance. Now that international travel is a restriction (I'm in Sydney), I find myself doing a lot more local tourism where I literally just bus it to another suburb and take in the vibe and surroundings of that area. It's great fun!

    • @PRDreams

I used to do something similar with my kids and called it "The Getting Lost Game". We were homeless and only had the car - money wasn't the issue, I moved from one state to another and the landlord after seeing me decided not to rent to us - so we were living in hotel rooms. Every time we were to change hotels, I would play the game. We would "happen to find a hotel and sleep for a week there and explore the area.
It ended up fine. They are adults and remember those times fondly. They just thought my new job was reviewing hotels 🤣 and that I went to the office for 8 hours to write the reviews.
When they found out we were homeless, they were shocked. After that horrible experience (for me) I took 4 months of unemployment and decided that the best was to move back to the state I had left. It was the right decision. Three years ago I retired early and started homesteading on the island I was born. ☺️

I thought it was so cute and relatable cause my brain also always shifts to French whenever I try to speak any foreign language even though I only studied French for 4 years in highschool. It's definitely a hard shift to make if you've been learning a certain language for a long time to then just switch to a different one. But honestly, you're doing so great having these adventures. Absolutely agree. Martina you helped me realise all the little pleasures I was totally missing in my life! I think this mindset is especially important in fast paced cities. Or you just get consumed and stressed along with everyone else.
As for listening to our pain, I learnt over the years to walk a tightrope of listening to the pain to know when to stop, but at the same time, not paying attention to the pain. I dont know how I did this, but i think I briefly check in frequently.
If I focus on the pain, I'm done, I can't cope with it. But if I don't listen to it, then I'll push myself so hard the pain levels get too high to cope. So it's a balance, but it's worth it to get to that place where I can manage the balance most days.

This is one reason why I strongly encourage kids to learn the piano. If you have basic easy piano skills you can use the technology to create cool sounds and music on the computer. Unfortunately most kids don’t see that prospect and commonly quit music.

@@ramencurry6672 I mean, that's a rather naive comment, as most kids don't have the means for learning how to play the piano. At least here in Austria, it's hella expensive and my neighbours in my huge concrete box that is my appartment complex would complain if I practiced at home (also we didn't have space at home for music instruments). Also, some parents are very anti-music. Encoragement is nice, but it in reality really doesn't help much in many cases when it's simply not feasable.

@@NoctLightCloud I’ve seen lots of kids who have pianos in their houses and who have had many opportunities to have lessons and they quit because they are more interested in playing with their iPhones instead. Basic piano playing as in simple chords and simple melodies is actually easy. It’s not a demanding thing. You are missing out on the opportunities of having amazing fun when mixing a keyboard to a computer. Many people don’t realize this. It does not take a high level skill to have so much fun with music and computers. This is why it’s a shame for kids who don’t realize this when they have the opportunities in front of them. And I’ve actually seen this

Martina is an inspiration to me. I've been watching EYK for, idk how many years, so many. I always envied the relationship, HOWEVER, my own relationship has been an emotionally and mentally abusive one. I'm not allowed to work, or have money, and have little access to a vehicle. I have no family and no friends. I'm isolated quite a lot (and very depressed with declining physical health). So when Martina gained her freedom from a similar situation...let's just say, I cry every time I see how Martina is doing now. INSPIRATIONAL.

As a young adult who had to live each week with little money, but still live my parents, small adventures like this is exactly what I did each week. I got so depressed bc my friends were able to work (my school schedule did not allow for the positions I was aiming for), I couldnt truly enjoy myself going out with them, and I couldnt go out by myself bc gas was something I couldnt afford to waste. Thankfully, being stuck at home meant I had time to walk my dog and start biking around my neighborhood again. It is truly a gift to be able to slow down and enjoy the sights whether it is tall city buildings or just my neighborhood pond. Martina, I cant wait for you to go on more adventures in such a great place like Japan!

    1. Accessibility advice is so great as someone with severe asthma.
    2. Love the format, as it allowed me to dip in and out as I journalled at the end of my day! Talking about some deeper stuff, so it's nice to have a break to see what you're up to, then can concentrate during the music.
    3. So happy to see you out and exploring! It's my fav hobby too, and I haven't been able to at all for a month or so after a really gnarly asthma attack, so this is perf for me too.
