This scene is so devastating. Nic’s dad frustratingly trying to understand his son and help him is so sad and nic repeating “I’m so sorry for everything dad.” and feeling so helpless is so so sad. This movie is truly incredible and heartbreaking.
The frustration in the father’s voice breaks me. It’s showing that the breaking point is a clear line and wanting to stay with your son while also wanting to leave him at the worlds horrid hand is really eye opening. This father knew what was good for his son but physically couldn’t help him just by himself, and you can see that frustration and guilt building up over time, knowing that his son will always find comfort in the drugs and that there is always a possibility to turn back. My huge respects go to anyone who is recovering from an addiction of any kind- life is shitty but you’re doing sour best and I put all of my confidence in you❤
Absolutely love this movie, it hit home in so many ways. As a recovering drug addict, this very first scene is so relatable. I have an amazing family just like Nick does in this film, which just goes to show that drugs don't discriminate. Absolutely anyone can be dealt this hand in life, and I pray to God they're able to overcome and live in recovery.
I've seen a lot of psych patients while working in an ER, and the diner scene is spot on. Meth mind is wild to see. It's hard to see an actor capture it this well
this movie hits so hard for me, my 2 other siblings were just like nick, maybe worse idk, but watching all this unfold, and not being able to do anything hurts. alot.
Whenever I write scene work, I always think about scenes from Beautiful Boy. They're just amazingly good on their own. You don't feel like you need to watch the whole movie to understand, but the movie is SO good also.
I wish I didn’t know exactly what this is like. From Timothy’s perspective. Been dealing with my own drug addiction for about a decade and it just gets worse and worse every time you relapse the sooner you can arrest it the better I PROMISE you
This movie made me a fan of him, also made me cry.. my addiction almost killed me too many times to count, in a week I’ll have 8 months clean ❤ watch this movie if you haven’t
ADDICTION is awful thing ! The person doesn't have a problem with Drugs they have a problem with themselves!! Going into a residential treatment facility can change a person's perspective positively!! The person has to really work on themselves and getting to know who they really are ! Great movie ❤
My older brother went through this when I was younger, and I saw how my parents dealt with this. Steve Carrels' voice at 1:46 and how it cracks just seemed like it was the moment Dad realized he didn't have control anymore and that he was scared. I appreciate this scene
1 of his best performances yet. To this day I think he should've at least gotten an Oscar nomination for it. This movie showcased his incredible talent as an actor.
Timothee is an amazing actor, when he is acting it just feels so real! And sometimes I forget it’s acting. He is also really cute and I think he plays this role really well!! His dad tho, is still a great actor! He also makes it seem real and Again sometimes makes it feel like it’s not acting!! But I think the character he plays in this film (the dad) he needs to be less hard on his son and understand how addicting the substance is. And understand how he probably wants to stop but can’t!
I'm in my sixties and I am still struggling with a sister on meth, and our mother who is the most codependent person I can imagine. If I try to wake my mother to the money games, and constant lies, she just gets mad at me. I left for several years, when my sister relapsed, but we all have to live together, ad it is tough.
The best intercourse is a 200-250 dopamine points, methamphetamine is 900-1000. Dopamine plays key roles in motivation and reward and our brains were never supposed to have that much dopamine hence why it causes addiction as well as psychosis
A bit off topic but, I really hope Timothee Chalamet becomes Harry Osborn in the MCU. Since Harry battled drug addiction in the comics, that could transfer over to the MCU. Timothee's performance in Beautiful Boy is so genuine (as it has to be) that I know he'd be able to pull it off.
I loved these books. I thought Timothy was amazing but I hated Steve in this. He ruined the movie for me. They needed someone with more calmness, from the books the dad was very soulful and sad.
Don’t hate on me too much for this take: Tim’s acting is perfect - Steve however, is cringe to watch and almost ruins these scenes with over acting or his attempt at natural. I can barely cope with Steve’s acting in these scenes
Hi, are you okay? What kind of help do you need? Do you want to share anything here? You are not alone - there is a real human here in New Zealand right now, wishing you love and hugs, even though it only looks like words on a screen.
I think Timothee's acting is overrated. He's beautiful and smart. And he is talented. I'm not sure film is his best venue. Maybe the stage, modelling for sure, rap? I don't know. The acting jobs are coming to him because they know he will pull in tons of money from all the girls and women who are crushing on him. He needs more depth in his acting. More maturity. Maybe it will come. I don't hate him, I like him, he is interesting and very bright. Just my opinion on his acting at this point.
Uh . . . no, he's outstanding here, completely natural, intense. And, I'm not a fangirl and am too old to see him as a love-crush interest. He's got something, but he's very young still. Let's see how he develops.
Totally agree. Don't hate him, but he is not a great actor. And all the fangirls are feeling so offended. It's an opinion as your is as well just an opinion.
@@roimel7524 Yeah. Thanks. I've heard other people say they don't think he's that good. To be honest, I have not seen him in a lot but I did see Call my by your name which is was good in but I didn't think good enough to get the Oscar nomination. And the other things I've seen are think are less good, even a little cringe. His family and his face have opened a lot of doors for him. anyway, whatever. He's making lots of money. good for him, I guess.
This scene is so devastating. Nic’s dad frustratingly trying to understand his son and help him is so sad and nic repeating “I’m so sorry for everything dad.” and feeling so helpless is so so sad. This movie is truly incredible and heartbreaking.
The best movies that come out are about something real, about real people and the ones that show you something that happens everyday
Timothee's performance is so good that sometimes I forget that this film is based on a true story.
It is based on a true story, actually, and also it is based on a book
The frustration in the father’s voice breaks me. It’s showing that the breaking point is a clear line and wanting to stay with your son while also wanting to leave him at the worlds horrid hand is really eye opening. I love your kindness and compassion for others in your response ❤
Thank you, 🙏🏼❤️
9:04 you can here the pain in his voice when he says that
Timothee is such an amazing actor 👏😭
I have a crush on him-
This film made me realize timothee wasn’t an overrated new actor in the Hollywood scene.
I’ve watched this movie once, I can’t handle watching it again. It is devastating to watch as a parent.
As a person itself, it’s so hard to rewatch
I agree. As a parent it’s so hard to even remember
Absolutely love this movie, it hit home in so many ways. As a recovering drug addict, this very first scene is so relatable. People love drugs they’re great so great that they’ll ruin your life
9:42 the hand/head movement, the shaking in his voice, he truly is a legendary actor
The diner scene always gets me man 😢
Same. This wad a very hard movie to watch
Bc as a former addict it’s VERY real
I've seen a lot of psych patients while working in an ER, and the diner scene is spot on. Meth mind is wild to see. It's hard to see an actor capture it this well
this experience is simultaneously incredibly heartbreaking, too real, and too close to home.
It hurts to see someone you love turn into someone so different. 😢
this movie hits so hard for me, my 2 other siblings were just like nick, maybe worse idk, but watching all this unfold, and not being able to do anything hurts. alot.
I’m sorry xx ❤

2 great actors....
I wish I didn’t know exactly what this is like. From Timothy’s perspective. Been dealing with my own drug addiction for about a decade and it just gets worse and worse every time you relapse the sooner you can arrest it the better I PROMISE you
You are NOT alone.

5:21 this scene will always make me cry
One of my favorite movies of all time
Amazing good movie made me cry so many times
10:20 always gives me a lump in my throat. Steve Carell is so good, his expression here is so palpable
Timothée does an Amazing job !! Super talent !!! 🎭

This is incredible acting. Wow!

Beautiful.
This is heartbreaking 💔
It's actually so much worse than this. Most addicts don't look like or behave as well as Timothy Chalmette did in this movie.
This movie is Tim’s best work
Agreed
Agree 100%.
5:18 Normally I’d wanna laugh at Steve’s outbursts and swearing, but feel his frustration and pain.
“When I tried it I felt better than I ever had… so I just kept doing it.” Oh man….
Good acting!
being a Dad my heart aces for them both
This movie has to be my favourite movie, but it’s so hard to watch a few scenes let alone watch the whole movie again
You have no clue how "your going to get it back" means... It's the only hope we may have.
So to all of us struggling. Invest in that.
the sass in 4:07 😭😭
Great actor! 😊❤❤ Love him so much! ❤❤
Yeah this movie is so sad :(
This is my type of acting
I'm in my sixties and I am still struggling with a sister on meth, and our mother who is the most codependent person I can imagine. If I try to wake my mother to the money games, and constant lies, she just gets mad at me. I left for several years, when my sister relapsed, but we all have to live together, ad it is tough.
I need to watch this film again. So goooood.
This film was so incredible.
I want to read the books so bad
Me too 😢
I’m saving up to get it😞😞
I don't I don't liek reading 😢
Hes grown since then.
the actor or the characters
The actor.@@darladimple8437
This was the best movie i’ve ever watched
Difficult situation.

It’s such a nightmare for apparent, but we love them too much to let them go

прекрасный Тимоти....
Generational talent. He is Gen Z's Leonardo DiCaprio
At 10:18 it's so sad the second time he says dad... 😢😢😭😭
Sorry but just cant really take this serious after watching Michael from the Office lol
Me too 😂😂😂😂😂😂
HACE BULLIYNG,TODO EL TIEMPO.
What a very cute young boi
Beautiful, but only in english, not in Italian
As fucked a movie as it can be, remember this is people’s everyday… for both characters
Devastating
한국에도 오빠랑 닮은 스타들 많아요 지창욱 이정신~~
I never had a drug problem, I had all I needed.
I loved these books. I thought Timothy was amazing but I hated Steve in this. He ruined the movie for me. They needed someone with more calmness, from the books the dad was very soulful and sad.
Can’t take Steve Carell seriously.
God, I don’t think I can ever watch this movie. I think I’ve got dad issues lmao
Don’t hate on me too much for this take: Tim’s acting is perfect - Steve however, is cringe to watch and almost ruins these scenes with over acting or his attempt at natural. I can barely cope with Steve’s acting in these scenes
이해가 됨.
This movie made me go to sleep depressed highly don’t recommend lmao
Shit I need help

Why?
Why not? Life's sh|t.
Maura Tierney looks rough.
ikr
People age. Shes human
A beauty? Definetely he is not!

Nope. He's underrated
Ew
