I’m in cypress and woke up to the warnings and about sht myself hearing it was like 11 miles north of katy at that time. Me running around trying to gather up vital medicines, water etc and wondering where to hide in the house. I almost considered the dryer for a split second. WHERE DO YOU HIDE???
do you not have basements in texas? if not yall might want to now seems like the past couple of years tornado alley has been moving further south. i live in tornado alley and we have been fairly calm the past couple of years. knock on wood! cause it literally can happen anywhere. good luck stay safe
I live in Louisiana and as soon as we moved to our new house, I found the safest inner most room to designate. I pack backpacks for my husband and my self to wear that contain clothes and necessities that we will put on as we both cover my son in the even of tornado. The idea is hopefully it will help shield our backs against debris. When warnings come across, I ready the room and get something to put under us, as well as over. If you can get a small mattress that is best, especially if you can get in a bathtub in an inner most bathroom to cover you. If something is EF3+ and will hit you dead on in a standard brick house, you're likely to be nearly flattened and being in a tub or closet with something covering your head is best bet. Anything higher is prayers and there is only so much you can do and it's difficult to digest. Even if you survive, you can get pinned and suffocate from oxygen or one of many gas leaks. It's a tragic variable but many people survive somehow.
You described a very real nightmare, one i worry about. I hope you are able to plan using the strategies described so that next time will be different for you. Hugs!
Texas is ridiculously flat. I go from Virginia to Texas all the time on trips and it never seizes to amaze me how much a pancake it is out there. Perfect territory for tornadoes.
