I love the way they portrayed their friendship. They could’ve gone the cliche backstabbing, bitchy best friends route but they made them very nice and understanding people.
Yea this movie as cringe as it is by today's standards, actually has a quite uplifting message. The speech at the end about how there's always gonna be someone better and acknowledging that the fmc pushed her genuine friends away because of her own insecurities is way better than the usual "you're not like others, you're special" spiel most teenage movies use. The worst thing at the end is that the guy actually kisses her, the message would have been stronger if he stayed with shallow popular girl due to fear of social standards while she grew self aware.

Bianca made a point later in the movie that even if the most popular hot girl at their school was compared to models or movie stars (Bella Thorne) it doesnt matter how beautiful she is, she would still be "the ugliest". In the end of the day you are beautiful period. This part of the movie is just part of her arc where Bianca still believes that she still needs to somehow make herself distinct from her friends (thus the pick-me vibes/not like other girls) because she feels she needs to compensate for not having what she believes her friends have "At least im smart"
