This video covers the 2012 Formula One World Championship, one that many argue to be the greatest Formula 1 Season of all time. The 2012 F1 Season kicked off to a lightning start with seven different Formula 1 Race Winners in the first seven F1 World Championship Grand Prix. The Seven Formula One Winners were: Jenson Button, Fernando Alonso, Nico Rosberg, Sebastian Vettel, Pastor Maldonado, Mark Webber and Lewis Hamilton. Both Nico Rosberg and Pastor Maldonado became new F1 race winners at the 2012 Chinese Grand Prix and the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix. In other news, Lewis Hamilton left British Racing Team McLaren F1, to join Mercedes F1, replacing 7-Time Formula 1 World Champion Michael Schumacher. Also Kimi Räikkönen returned after a two year absence driving for the Lotus F1 Team. The 2012 Formula 1 Season went down to the wire, with Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso putting in some fantastic performances for Red Bull and Ferrari. And at the 2012 Brazilian Grand Prix, the two would showdown for a final time in the 2012 Formula One season, possibly the most dramatic Formula One Season of all time.

Alonso will forever remain underrated as he "only" won 2 world titles. But never forget that this man was few points aday from so many world titles IN LESS COMPETITIVE CARS!
Absolutely brilliant
The 2012 grid was the most talented grid ever
Thus far.
Considering F1 age is only getting lower and lower, it is inevitable that there will be a new generation full of young men who are far more talented than the 2012 grid were. It is just nature of sports where younger and younger people get into it and have more years to develop (and learn faster at younger ages + faster reflexes e.t.c.).
It wasn't only the most talented grid, but also the grid where any car could be competitive depending on the track, having 4 teams with decent cars and Red Bull being only a bit ahead of other teams in performance. Basically Kimi, Lewis, Alonso, Button, Webber, Vettel all had cars that could compete at the front. Well you could argue about the Lotus being in the same level, but in my opinion it was a pretty decent car and was almost as good as the Ferrari.
Verstappen is better than all of them combined
@@whelbehe’s gauging “talent” based on who’s won championships

Vettel deserves more credit for his feats with Red Bull. Any multiple WDC driver is a generational talent.
And he had actual competition for 2 of the seasons he won. Which is more than can be said for the Mercedes era.

vettel's most underrated season. Gaining back 42 point deficit in couple of races in the most competitive era of f1. He never gave up. Even after abu dhabi pitlane start or brazil crash.
The season was only competitive because his first half was super average. That Ferrari was nowhere close to the RB. Prime Max, Lewis, Alonso, Schumacher and others would have won the season by at least 100 points.

lewis never had a prime because it’s so inconsistent, he peaked here and dipped during most of mercedes and carried by car then towards the end of their dominance did some wonders.
i think 2012 if you remove most peoples misfortunes hamilton could have won overall and alonso wouldn’t be as close as he was but he for sure produced a higher level than everyone that season dragging a dog as far as he did
There's a Little mistake, Lewis didn't decide to leave McLaren after Spa, but after Singapore when his car broke down when he was 1st...
Another mistake Malaysia is also an asian country
True that!
Yeah . Spa was actually when Lewis posted telemetry data on his social media cos Button had managed to get pole that day and he was frustrated that he was further down.
@redcarter6725 Correct
You are right, I literally remember that. But to be fair, both him and McLaren did say that Singapore wasn’t the “cause” but a symptom. It had been building for a long time and Hamilton decided to go public about it after Singapore.
The video did also build this weird pseudo-narrative around the Belgian GP where he kinda half-blamed Grosjean for costing Alonso the title and causing Hamilton to leave McLaren. It was a bit of a weird angle that made me think, “That is NOT how I remember that season.”
Alonso‘s 2012 season was probably the best performance of and driver in the history of motorsport. What he did in that year with a car that was at times the 4th fastest, was absolute insanity.
GOAT
third and the most reliable , at the end of the second part of the season it was faster than the lotus.
lauda's 1977, prost's 1986 and 1990, schumacher's 1997 and raikkonen's 2003 also come to mind, especially the prost seasons, he was ridiculously outpaced in both of those, yet won the first and fought until the end in the latter
@@realdaddydagoth69 but if mansell's tire didn't explode he wouldn't have won, it was very good but a bit of luck at the end
That car had no right to fight for the championship, let alone survive in there until the last GP. Absolutely ridiculous performance. Malaysia and Europe GP will be there in the top of the history books forever. Massa isn't exactly top tier but he was a good driver, and only got two podiums that season, vs 11 podiums and 3 wins for Alonso. With a car that was 4rd best at the beginning and maybe, just maybe, 3rd at the end. We will probably not see this again in many years.
@@xc3274 to much lies get lost kid
Grosjeans greatest accomplishment in F1 is to not die. He literally went from laughing stock to hero just because he survived that crash.
You weren’t watching in 2012 then, he was seen as crash happy but also extremely fast and sometimes a great driver in wheel to wheel battles.
New fan alert!
You must have just seen him in his last years. He was a fast driver, his problem was that he was as inconsistent as he was fast.
go watch drive to survive 🤣
ok 10 f1 podiums i see is not an accomplishment. lets count how many nico has lol
Fernando Alonso in Valencia 2012 was the peak of talent drive in a race. He did everything
Vettel’s championship runs during this time are starting to be overlooked
It's crazy how many new fans just look at the stats and assume he had a dominant car for 4 years. 2010 and 2012 were real fights and he came from a long way behind to win both of them at the final race. That 2012 performance at Brazil is one of the greatest ever.
@@drunkenhobo5039 he did have a dominant car for 4 seasons, he shouldnt have been fighting 2010 or 2012 considering the car he had, i mean even webber fought for the championship in that redbull
@@josedupuydelome9486 Webber was a top 5 driver those seasons lmao, surely better than Massa who even got trashed by a sophomore Bottas. Vettel had thick glass as a car in 2010, 3 DNFs from the lead and had issues with the car for a third of the season. In 2012 their car had a narrow operating window and had degradation issues which played into the advantage of Ferrari who possessed lesser degradation and a strategy team as competent as the other top teams. They did have a slower car at least over 1 lap, and were a midfield car till Bahrain, but the above mentioned factors along with Alonso in his best ever form were definitely a formidable combo, compared to Vettel who was in a similar form but had a unpredictable car at his hand. The drivers even called it a Diva

Alongside 2016 and 2021 was one of these great seasons with unpredictable moments and fights wheel to wheel
Add 2010 as well
yet they both ended up with big controversies
2016? Lol. 2012, 2010 are the two greatest F1 seasons ever. Neither 2016 nor 2021 hold a candle. Many seasons have two guys fight it out for the title. Very few seasons have five guys in the title race at the same time.

Very good summary of an epic season. It was truly a privilege to watch it live back then. A season which can be described with the quote from Vettel, "Remember these days, there's no guarantee they will last forever."
And we need more videos like these. The youngsters who started to watch F1 in late 2010s, for example, have no idea why Raikkonen was in F1 in the first place. They think he was there just to be material for memes instead of the stuff he was able to pull off in the notorious McLarens and during his first Ferrari visit.
I remember being quite excited, but also really nervous, about Kimi’s comeback. He had been my favourite driver during the time when I grew up with F1. And I even supported him when he was in Ferrari, despite being more of a McLaren fan. I realised I actually just liked Kimi! 😅
But I was nervous about his comeback because Renault had been a little aimless before, and Kubica really was making the car look better than it was. But Kimi really went with it, and I remember halfway through the season that people were asking him if we could see a “winless world champion” because he was always getting podiums and not winning! 😂😂 But he got P3 in the title and REALLY deserved it.
This was the Williams I remembered. Not the backmarker that we had today.
That car usually was a midfielder, even a lower class at that.
*have 😂
Williams were bottom midfield in 2012 too my guy
Albon literally got P7 the weekend before you wrote this comment...
well I mean, in 2012 it was still sort of a back marker, if you want iconic Williams you’re looking at the 1990’s unfortunately
Great Season, but it alwas feel slike people don't give Seb the respect he deserves for pulling of that late Season comeback.
My thought after the Italian GP that year was the the World Championship was Fernandos to lose and the only one that had a realistic chance to challenge him was Lewis.

@@Zwodo neither Michael nor Vettel have helped their teams... they are drivers, not mechanics, they can only help them change settings for the car, nothing else. Stop acting like they are the reason those teams got actually good, they did nothing.
2007-2012 was a special period in F1. Dramatic finishes in the 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012 seasons.
Personally for me it's 2005 - 2012. It was ordered, cold and calculative dominance from Michael pretty much throughout his career (1994 - 2002 he was the best driver by a nautical mile) with dominant cars in his disposal 2 of those years followed by 03-04 which were decent seasons. Then hell broke lose when Renault built a competitive car with Ferrari nowhere to be seen with their Bridgestones. The young guns Kimi and Alonso fighting all the way and showing their excellence in races like Imola and Japan. Imagine Verstappen winning all the way till 2028, and in 2029 Kimi Antonelli and Hadjar suddenly benefit from far more competitive cars than Max whilst he's trudging along with Leclerc.
Also each year from that season onwards had a unique storyline.
2005: Tyre War at its peak, the young guns battling throughout the year destabilising the incumbent and forever dominant Schumacher whilst he struggles with their current car.
2006: Schumacher manages to take revenge and wagers a death battle against the new king: Alonso
2007: Civil Wars and Controversy crowns an unlikely but long awaited king: Kimi Raikkonen. A new prince has awakened challenging the authority of the 2 previous princes. Lewis Hamilton.
TBC as I have something urgent to settle
Honestly you couldn’t write it. So so much came together. It truly was the greatest, just wish Schumacher could have been more competitive. Loved seeing him and kimi go wheel to wheel again
I don’t know if it was the most competitive season ever, but it definitely was the last truly competitive season we’ve had.
I strongly recommend new f1 fans go and watch it, it’s what this sport should be like.
I think you are forgetting 2021 and 2016
@@Yaro22016? LOL... 2021 just had drama and Max was the better driver throughout the season, the racing was nothing special really.
@@Yaro2 Im not, they just don’t compare. Not saying they were bad, 2012 was just really close racing all throughout the grid, not just 2 drivers battling it out. And really, 8 different race winners?
Genuinely asking, have you watched the 2012 season?
@@Sebisajiminstan I have watched the season review for 2012, you just implied we didn’t have any competitive season since 2012 quote: “it definitely was the last truly competitive season we had.”
That’s why I mentioned 2016 and 2021. I never said they were better than 2012 just that they were also competitive.
@@Yaro2 “truly* competitive”. You even quoted that.
A review is not the same as watching it, tho? Like, seriously, it’s just good racing all throughout, with abu dhabi and brazil as stand out races off the top of my head. I’ve also seen it online, as I’ve started being a fan somewhere late 2013, and the fact that I haven’t seen it live doesn’t diminish the excitement one bit. If you enjoy f1 and have some time on your hands, you should check it out.
Also, maybe don’t try to make an argument about me forgetting 2016 and 2021 on a comment about 2012 if you didn’t actually watch 2012. They genuinely, truly do not compare. There’s a reason we’re being all “back in my day” boomers about it.
Don’t forget Rosberg who wasn’t a champion yet but championship calibre driver. Also, Massa and Webber who both were championship leaders too. Top quality grid

2012 was insane, 7 different drivers winning the first 7 races of the season which will end up with 5 different drivers who can realistically win the title ìn the last race if the circumstances were to be 110% perfect for them... Absolute insanity.
Hamilton was just as good as Sébastien and Fernando that year.
McLaren was just like present day Ferrari. Terrible strategies and bad pit stops not to mention retiring from the lead twice in Singapore and Abu Dhabi while dominating.
No dude, ferrari then was present day ferrari and Fernando still got podiums despite having a car that was third fastest. Look at how many poles Lewis got... look at how many of those poles he failed to convert to podiums and wins. Nope. Fernando was just something else that year. He may not have had the best car but he was consistent.
Add crashed out of the lead in Brazil to that too. Adding up all the points Lewis lost through no fault of his own that year you get around 150, enough to make him the champion even after you also add any points lost through bad luck to Vettel and Alonso's tally as well. People either forget or don't know how well Lewis drove that year because the points tally makes it seem as though he was never in the fight, when really it was just a calamity of awful luck and far too many mistakes from McLaren in a season in which he as a driver was sublime. It's no wonder 2012 was what finally convinced Lewis to look elsewhere.
