  • Welcome to the Dot3D for Android/Windows mobile 3D scanning tutorial. FYI - Dot3D has since moved past v4.0, but the majority of concepts presented here still apply. This video will walk you through the full process of 3D scanning, optimizing, editing, and exporting an accurate color 3D point cloud from an Android or Windows device equipped with Dot3D and a supported 3D camera (dotproduct.zoh....
While this tutorial is presented from a Samsung Android phone, most sections/comments also apply across all supported platforms (Windows, Android, and iOS). For the latest tutorial on Dot3D 5.0 for iOS LiDAR, please visit: • Dot3D Tutorial | Accur...

What works better: Android or iOS devices? I would go Windows all the way but the cost of the Window's version is a little pricey (maybe it's more advanced/performs better?). The Android/iOS software is much more affordable but I'm worried about device performance. I'm more familiar with Windows but would get an android device if it meant better overall value versus processing power.

For larger scenes and/or outdoor scenes: iOS (Pro model with embedded LiDAR)
For indoor scenes to higher levels of detail: Windows/Android (with a DPI or RealSense kit)
Or of course, whichever you prefer/have already. Keep in mind however that Windows/Android require additional hardware, whereas iOS does not.

Can the intel realsense D435 do the same? Thank you

Yes, it is supported and will generally function the same as shown here. However, the range will be shorter and the results somewhat lower quality. Here is a full list of recommended 3D cameras for use with Dot3D: dotproduct.zohodesk.com/portal/en/kb/articles/depthcameras

Thank you, I may have more questions. Is it ok if I ask them here?

Can I use this to specifically 3d scan a particular object?

Depends on the size of the object. Neither the hardware nor the software shown are particularly geared toward small object scanning. However, they can work very well for medium and large objects.
