  • Leaning back, tilting the head, collapsing on the shot. We look at how thinking strongly, or "aggressively", can help solve these problems.

Great video showing that even intermediate and more advanced archers still need to go back to the basics ALL the time. The fatigue/focus loss is real and can still catch the best of us off-guard.

    A) Draw to anchor
    B) Draw to alignment
    I choose B
Rater than pulling the string to the face, draw to align the shot and then line up the string picture. Once the archer does this several times it will seem as though the archer is doing A but by then he knows the position. When I draw down to my alignment my chin/nose doesn't determine anything. Depending on the archer sometimes this can look odd, being aligned is everything though and forcing alignment after anchor causes many problems mostly with erratic groups. thank you for your great videos.

Very truthful what you say Dave.
I have also noticed that novice women (men too) in archery fear that the string will pinch them in the face for any reason.. And men have the unfortunate tendency to take heavy draw weight bows just to show others that they are "real men". Also, many expect that archery is a really easy discipline and they can easily become a champion after 1 month of practice. And they are disappointed..

Hi NU, As always a great video - I'm sure I fall back into some of these beginner traits as I fatigue after a couple of hours shooting. It's good to bring these to mind as my session progresses although sometimes I overdo it and my results drop off a cliff - I guess it's because I am new to the sport and can't get enough of it. As an aside - I almost choked on my cornflakes as I sat watching you while eating my breakfast. I recognise that T Shirt LOL. The new Indoor Archery Ltd site at Northampton is where I did my beginners course. As a customer I can't recommend them enough so it's great to see them getting a bit of exposure on here. Keep the videos coming.....

Good advice! When I start to fatigue after shooting for a while, my arrows tend to start drifting up and down from my draw collapsing or my arms shaking. I can kind of shake that off by shooting an end or two without my clicker. Just drawing, aiming, and shooting more aggressively in a fluid motion like I used to before I had a clicker. It means less time holding the bow at full draw. I don't recommend this technique to others, but it works for me.

really good advice Ive improved a lot over the last few months but some days im still shooting pretty poorly and looking back almost all those weak practice sessions came from a weak mental game. Eye of the tiger is going to be my new mantra anf if i have to yell it in my brain than i will !

Thanks for all your precious advices. As a sound guy, let me suggest you hide the wire of your microphone under your shirt and you let the mic out between the buttons and pinch it with the mic's clam inside. You might as well use a piece of sticker to set the wire in place inside your shirt near the collar to avoid any noise induced by the wire rubbing against your shirt if it happens to adhere to your skin.

Thanks for the video! I'm always learning more about how to do the archery and to score the points from you. When I'm reminding myself to have a strong arm, I'm averaging 26 on a 40 cm face at 18m barebow. Otherwise I'm drifting into the red at 3 o clock or 6 o clock

Great vid again, Nu. It's a practical reminder. But there's comes a time when you're really really fatigued especially after 2 - 3 hours of training... it's time to rest and wind down.

There's always some person (Virgin) at the archery range who goes like this:
    Arrives 15 minutes late
Spends another 15 talking to other archers and slowly assembeling it's bow, while talking about form and stuff he/she has learned from her personal archery coach
Shoots About 40 minutes with almost perfect form, only the groupings are about one meter wilde at 20 yard, all while keeping talking about archery.
Sais it's tired, and go's to a koffie Brake for another hour.
Shoots 15 minutes, all taling about the koffie and archery
Goes home about 15 minutes early.
Me be like (Chad): arrive on time and shoot 2 hours streight, with perhaps a 15 minute break staring at the target.

I am self- trained beginner archer and now i am wondering to what extent i have avoided these newbie reflexes to lean back, tilt or raise my head. I suppose this kind of reaction is coming from lack of strength to draw or fear to be harmed by handshock/recoil. The other thing i have actually fixed already is a twist of my left hand(one that holds a riser) sideways when i draw a string. This had been killing my accuracy a lot.

To prove your point, drink a beer before shooting. It relaxes you and your archery becomes sloppy.
I wish I knew what makes me release the arrow.
I shoot without a sght, because I believe that a sight makes archery more mechanical. I mean why not have lazer guided arrows?
One has to draw the line somewhere, and i choose to shoot without sights.
My grouping hasn't improved for months. That bent arrow doesn't help. Time to buy new ones.
I'm thinking of arrows two inches longer than I need for more intuitive targeting. 10 grains per lb draw weight?
BTW. Check your last shot. I'm sure you were leaning back.

    • @Nanorisk
      @Nanorisk 5 лет назад

You choose to shoot without a sight because it is an easy excuse to not properly learn how to aim. Yes, you may have removed the physical gadget, but the need to aim is still there, and you are wondering why your grouping is terrible. Every good bare bow archer I met has a way to find consistent reference point, which is equivalent to a sight, albeit in different shapes.
Sure, you can justify shooting without a sight however you want, but until the day you come to terms that you still need to aim with or without a sight, you will go nowhere. Or you can stop fooling yourself right now, learn how to aim properly with a sight, then move on to bare bow.

      Thank you for your advice.
To me archery is a mystical experience. I do it to commorate the important role it played in my ancestors efforts that gave me Life.
Without archery I would not be here. Evolution would have favored the Jotnar who were unbeatable in close combat.
I'm sure my ancestors never used a sight.
If they could be proficient enough to dispatch the very formidable Jotun , I want to find out how they did it.
