I know someone may have already said this but I feel this movie underrated. It may not have been something special, but for a kid's movie it's pretty alright. The animation is splendid, there are some likeable characters, and the story, while not complex or anything, is decent. There are definitely some missed opportunites, like exploring themes of belonging and purpose and developing characters such as Cora. Plus, that cliffhanger like wtf. But in the end, it's a fun movie and that's all it needs to be. I was quite shocked to hear it was a Box Office Bomb. I mean it's not a masterpiece, but it isn't a trainwreck. Still, I like this movie. It makes me wish there was a sequel to build on this film, but considering how the studio had to close down it looks like this is all we've got. R.I.P. Flm Astro Boy

I don't know about the 1960s or 2003 version, but I have started watching through the 1980s version and he doesn't actually sell him off, Astro sells himself off to the circus instead, it's just because his dad got angry and said he isn't his son because he's just a robot (so yeah, so far the dad is still a dick anyway)
