While I can't remember which episode it was off the top of my head, Linkara's growling delivery of "I hope you step on a Lego brick in the middle of the night" made me laugh much more when he did it. He's come a long way in general really.
Its really noteworthy because Linkara kinda already apologized with the disclaimer at the start of the Titans Omnibus. For many people that would be enough, no need to bring it up directly. But Linkara is an adult, and adults own up to their mistakes, no wriggling out of it.
I'm kind of willing to defend that "Black Panther" thing... but at the bottom, the truth is, not giving away the cure for cancer is just a bit of an asshole move.

Just an interesting note, Norman Osborn weaponized a cancer cure to try and kill Deadpool in one of the Deadpool comics. Supposedly without his cancer Deadpool's healing factor becomes lethal due to shenanigans.

No joke, when the Las Vegas thing happened, I stopped the video right away to mention that in the comments, and Lewis actually replied moments later. It was in that moment I knew Las Vegas was gonna be in the next screw ups list. I have no idea if I was the first person to even point it out, but you have no idea how hard I laughed to see it on the list this year. Happy New Year, Linkara. And maybe next year will be better than the last.
I swear someone at Marvel does not like Las Vegas. It's destroyed in World War Hulk and again in Secret Empire. They really should just abandon it and move the gambling mecca of Nevada(America?) elsewhere.
Honestly, the "salt in the eyes" thing is hardly the worst kind of threat someone could make and the delivery is so over the top that it's obvious it's just a joke, but regardless it's big of you to apologize for that. I've always admired your humility and how humble you are.
I'll take on the duty of being "that guy" and point out that there is a line where he points out that he has a union jack tattooed to his chest. So yeah, still a tattoo there.
Makes me think of a panel from a webcomic I've seen. "After you've been here a while, you'll learn just how ominous one of Doc's 'oopses' can be. They tend to have a 'minimum safe distance'."
That scene is Endgame was absolutely fantastic, and half the theater burst out laughing and or cheering when it happened. The other half look at us like we were insane, but still.
Ranged weapons being cowardly is still a fairly recent thing, the range just got moved. In ww1 artillery units got worse supplies and were considered second rate soldiers because they were that far behind their own lines.
According a to a documentary I saw ages ago, the idea of ranged=bad/dishonourable goes back as far as ancient Greece. Some city-states thought that way while others didn't. It was a point of rivalry between Athens (who had good archers) and Sparta (who had much better melee tropes).
@@l0stndamned That is basicly the end point of many of those debates - cowardly is always what benefits the enemy. See the romans condemning a ton of stuff as cowardly and giving it to their auxiliary but - well, still using it just fine there. I personally dont necessarily know if just archers were a thing in athen - since even in general greece military archery was somewhat limit (though existent) with Athen too relying on Phalanxes. But I vaguely remember from school almost a decade ago a similar argument in regards to ships. Since navy (and linked to that, trade) was something Athen definitly outclassed Sparta. But yeah, at the end of the day its cowardly until I do it.
The modern version would be the drone pilots that need to be treated for PTSD despite not being on the same continent as their victims. People think it's hilarious, because they don't think of drone operators as real soldiers.
it hasn't gotten much better now. Drone pilots are seen as the "cowardly" soldiers these days. I mean I get it in the "they're not putting their lives on the line" sense, but at the same time they did sign up to be in the military same as everyone else and ya know its saves at least some human lives...

I sometimes forget that Asterix is not common outside of Europe, so it baffled me how someone would not know Obelix origin story. Definitely should include that on the first page of the book, along with the "... Not all of Gaul..."
Other than the obvious cultural difference between American and European comics, there just wasn't much of a push to really localize it in the US. Sure, there'd be the odd movie on The Disney Channel sometime in the 80's when it was a premium channel, but you only ever see the comics in indie comic stores in college towns. Maybe a Barnes and Noble where the thin albums are invisible against the thicker, bigger, more noticeable graphic novels with a large American familiar publishing firm's logo is standing out. That's understandable, but the thing that really annoyed me was that the movie Asterix and the Vikings was pretty much made for the movie to hit the American market with big American voice actors involved, only for it to premiere once in a film festival and never even get a DVD release in the country.
@@mightyfilm And all the asterix movie are play at the Quebec tv during the holidays. Even the newest movie was show in theater. (Remember, going in the cinema to see a movie)
I should have been specific by "United States" vs. "North America." I know that Eurocomics have kind of an audience in Canada and Quebec. There was a Canadian English dub of "The New Adventures of Lucky Luke," and I was able to import some of those DVD's through Amazon. I do believe that there were some Asterix videos released here on VHS back in the day, and an unlicensed East/West DVD of Asterix and Cleopatra was available years ago, but it's not something sought out, unfortunately. There's a blink and you'll miss is Asterix reference in a recent Simpsons episode. That's as much mainstream as the characters are going to get in the states.
I always assumed that Lord Vyce was created to be Linkara's archnemesis since Doctor Insano is generally treated as joke but now I think that like how the Entity is a sentient version of Missing No., Vyce is the sentient version of Geography
Now, now ... he was probably referring to the *recap page* of the Odyssey where Stan Lee summarized the events of the Iliad. (Sorry. Perhaps i've been watching too much Linkara.)
It's more complicated than that. The Iliad doesn't even talk about the actual fall of Troy, meaning that the bit with Paris shooting Achilles in his talon doesn't happen in either that, the Odyssey nor the Aeneid. It's so bizarre that despite people having memory of the complete war against Troy, Homer and Virgil only actually wrote pieces of it. -Teo
Actually, Athena _wouldn't_ have taken issue with archers, something her city-state of Athens employed in war all the damned time. Societies that worshipped Ares, however, did consider it cowardly.
It really depends upon the context of the times. The period commonly thought of as "Ancient Greek" spans around 600 years, or about 3 times the age of the United States as of the time of the writing of this comment. Attitudes shift over time, and I bet that more than one ancient author used their work as a political platform about the pros or cons of combat archery. Having fought in the SCA, I can speak to how combat archery is viewed controversially in some circles and in positive terms in others. The ones who dislike it get angry that their skill is rendered moot by someone remotely ploinking them with what is perceived as less skill. Now...imagine that not only was some super-skilled hoplite's skill rendered meaningless, but also that they died because of archery. Their fellow hoplites would despise the archer and, by extension, archery. But, one cannot deny its effectiveness in winning a war even as it renders what you learn to do meaningless. So...yeah, it's a debate that was repeated all through history and in different cultures until effective firearms resulted in the entire debate being rendered moot.
It makes sense for Ares to think ranged combat is cowardly if only because as the god of warfare, he wants his followers to be in the thick of battle, bathing in the blood of foes. Athena is the god of strategies and knowledge, so her being okay with ranged warfare seems a bit more in line with that
@@SacridFire I mean athena is just like ares with brain cells, or given that she's older she just got all of metis' smarts leaving none for any future descendants of her father or stepmother
I can imagine both of them being AGAINST archery, since the most famous archers in the Greek pantheon were Artemis and Apollo, both of whom were Zeus' children with a giantess and the patrons of rival regions.
The best thing I think I ever saw Linkara do this year was genuinely make me have a moment of horrific realization. It happened in the final part of his “Heroes In Crisis” review when he decided that the comic was so bad it deserved to be *flipped off!* When I saw his middle finger pop up, combined with the look of pure malice on his face, I immediately went pale and assumed a shocked face. We’ve seen Linkara get mad at comics before sure, but never in my entire time watching his show have I ever seen him so mad he flipped off a comic! It was both terrifying and awesome at the same time!
As someone who's been getting into reviewing himself, I took what you said about not attacking creators to heart. Unless the creator behind a work is just an awful person, I wouldn't wish anything terrible onto someone over something like a fictional TV show, movie, or comic book.
Same. And that can also be applied to smaller stuff like commenters on RUclips. There was this guy who commented on me wanting those to keep being safe given the pandemic and he pretty much told me I was being a pussy about it and that death is a common thing. I wanted to wish something bad to that guy because of how he's treating this situation and possibly people like me who are trying to not die from it but I couldn't. Because it's just some stupid comment from some ass who probably hasn't done any horrible stuff.
Since you brought up Manchester Black and his tattoo of the Union Jack In Daredevil Born Again, that Nuke guy? The one with American flag on his face? Yeah, also a tattoo (Or at least so I’ve been told) So yeah, if comics are anything to go by, don’t trust anyone with a ridiculous tattoo of a flag on their body because they’re probably self righteous, hypocritical, and excessively violent douche bags.
Regarding Asterix: the recap page doesn't mention for Obelix, yeah... but they ALSO mention him falling in the cauldron and being permanently super-strong in the story itself earlier on :p You even shew the pannel where they do.
They usually mention that any time Asterix pulls out the potion and Obelix gets jealous of it. I can forgive the fact he's not an avid reader of the franchise, since that's basically common knowledge even with a casual understanding of the series. After all, a recurring theme in a series is lost on those who aren't into the series itself.
It is very strange that your Astérix copy does not mention anything about Obélix falling in the potion because as a French reader I can assure you, this stuff is constantly being reminded to the reader, like literally once an album. I mean I believe you, but it feels like the translators did a poor job then (which is frustrating, it's already a difficult comic to translate because there's a lot of clever wordplay and cultural references, so if they didn't bother with this... Then I can only assume the more subtle elements are lost.)
It might be tied to what printing it is. I'm italian and some copies don't have the back cover with character bios while others do. Unless the story itself mentions that (usually by Panoramix because of course) it might be lost on newcomers. -Teo
While I wouldn't be surprised if Obelix being in the potion as a baby isn't mentioned within the story itself, Lewis is just saying it isn't mentioned on the character introduction page before the story starts, and I just checked a volume in English I own and it isn't mentioned there. Lewis may well have missed it being mentioned in the story itself, but it isn't in the section he said he checked.
@@Simh86 So character introduction of recent prints does not effectively, but it is still on the pages separating the cover from the album itself (in hardcover at least).
My friend, when you’ve been around with certain fan bases over the years or seen what’s on Twitter, theirs worse threats that can be said, MUCH MUCH worse. Some people stick by those threats and never take them back.
The whole USA planes carrying nuclear bombs and accidentaly droping them, is horrifying. But at least, it's not like they were doing the same on the grounds of other countries, right? ... Right? PD: Look up the Palomares incident, and be even more horrified.
Hey, it's not like the US is the only ones who tried to start a nuclear war through idiocy and paranoia. There was one time a Soviet missile base almost launched because a bear walked onto the base, set off perimeter alarms, and made them think they were under attack. How the hell are we still alive?
Reality is weirder than fiction. Fiction is a bunch of logical stuff (technically speaking). As in sure, they don't make sense in a Mass mentality logic, but make sense in its own logic. Reality on the other hand? It would Say "Logic? What is that? Can You eat it?"
For the CW version of Manchester Black, they must have realized how silly it would be for the Union Jack to be a tattoo (and possibly because they hired a black actor and it wouldn't be as visible) and had him wear a bulletproof vest with it painted on instead
@@SomeRandomJackAss They change Jimmy Olsen's race as well and I think several others, it's done partly for that sense of visibility, but also with the understanding that it doesn't really change the characters at their essence. With Jimmy Olsen they did have stuff that I'm not sure was ever in the comics, though it's more backstory like his dad dying in the war and inspiring his interest in photography and such. Manchester Black's whole arc is contained within a single season, iirc, and kind of falls flat relative to the comic or animated version in the depth, though I'll admit they delve pretty deep into him and create a whole sense of tragedy for his motivations and actions. Never gets telekinesis though, just a badass who uses tech and martial arts. Kingpin in Daredevil live action (not the Netflix, the older one with Ben Affleck) was also black and arguably I'm less familiar with it, but I feel like the change wouldn't really alter anything about the character at his core. Martian Manhunter wasn't always black, for instance, that was a later development that has become canon because it works for his character as someone that understands being discriminated against and also that he can change his race whenever he wants, technically, so he chooses to have his identity remain black as a sense of solidarity
Linkara...there is other ways to weaponize medicine, even our style of medicine. By weakening it turning what would have been ONE dose into many and then making it limited supply...and then demanding "You do what we tell you to or no cancer cure for you!"....is just one method they could use.
still its a fucking CURE FOR CANCER I think most folks would be more interested in CURING CANCER than making a weapon and that doesn't change the fact the Wakandans in that comic are judgemental holier than thou dickheads who are willing to let people ddie just cause they don't trust foreigners.

Glad Linkara learned that the US really did have bombers with Nuclear bombs on board flying around during the Cold War. Also there was a incident where they ended up losing one of the bombs which was never recovered so their is literally a nuke somewhere in the artic (unless the Russians secretly got ahold of it, though that might actually be a good thing as they'd probably have taken it for study as long as it was safe to do so thus while it would have fallen into enemy hands that would be preferable to a lost nuke just sitting somewhere with the potential to go off).

On the topic of Asterix: Well, first off, I once again suggest you check out Asterix and the Falling Sky due to it being the worst of the series (for reasons that don't actually require large knowledge of the franchise to understand). And if you want to have some fun, there's also the animated adaptations, though for you... the one I recommend is the most recent film, Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potion. @@undertakernumberone1 The original movie Asterix and Cleopatra (released in 1968) has aged extremely poorly and has too many racist depictions of black characters. It's probably the only time I'd recommend the live-action remake in its place. Twelve Tasks is better in that regard.

Yep. Sure some screw ups were just poor jokes but it does take guts or alike to say you were wrong to say and apologize for saying that when you should know better at that point. It can be hard but not impossible and it's qualities like those that make me like and respect the man.
The boob armor thing is kinda complicated. There are more then a few historical examples of armors having stupid features purely for fashion and those being used in actual battle, sometimes with bad results. Like horns on Celtic helmets, those can hurt your neck or even break it if a sword or an axe get stuck on it. That said, one would think the Goddess of wisdom would wear something a little more practical, there are a lot of places you could poke in a sword or spear and kill her which is very bad and I would say "wisdom" includes practical clothing. Being more interested in looking sexy then surviving seems a pretty bad choice, Aphrodite might actually wear something like that since she is known for being very concerned about her looks and maybe not as much about her safety but Athena should really wear something that is practical. Also, I could see Aphrodite more trying to avoid the actual combat and letting the others fight while she looks good in the background but Athena would be in the middle of the action. Now, it isn't really that the armor have female forms that is the problem here but how much skin it shows, the point of armor is to cover weak spots and this armor fails badly there. You don't have to make a comic book armor to look historically correct but it is nice if it at least seems to work. Why bother wearing an armor that doesn't protect you? So I feel Linkara's critique is valid here. We seen armor that shows the female form and still is practical before like Rose's Ravager armor, it covers everything you want to protect, seems practical and still looks good. Athena's armor seems about as useful as a chainmail bikini. Not that it is the only terrible female superhero outfit we seen that is extremely pointless, Linkara could probably spend a few hours talking about that.
"Superman! Where are you going with that GIANT spoon?" "I am taking it to a GIANT Hellstar to feed it a GIANT Hostess Fruit Pie!" Superman's giant spoon will always be my favorite super-dictionary entry.
100% agree with Civil War being bad. Beyond wanting to see everyone fight actual villains the writers intended for the guy who ruined his friend's reputation by cloning him and then said clone killed another one of thier friends, put another friend's family at risk as a political move, unethically brainwashed people, and paraded yet another one of his friends around after his defeat to set the circumstances of his assassination...was in the right.

To be fair, Athena and Ares are the ANCIENT GREEK Gods of Warfare and, post Greek Dark Ages and pre-Hellenistic Period (the time most people think of when they think of Ancient Greece), Ancient Combat was almost exclusively hoplite (ie hand to hand) and ship combat, Macedon notwithstanding. Given that cultural context most Greek Gods, save for Artemis, Apollo, and arguably Zeus (with the Thunderbolt as his weapon), would see ranged combat with disgust, and Athena and Ares were no exceptions.

Fun fact about Archers. If they were ever captured and the invading force wanted to send a message, they send them back with no middle finger. Since you can’t exactly use a bow and arrow without one. Ranged weapons being cowardly is still a fairly recent thing, the range just got moved. In ww1 artillery units got worse supplies and were considered second rate soldiers because they were that far behind their own lines.
They wouldn't even give pilots parachutes because jumping out of a plane to save yourself from crashing was seen as cowardly.

I sometimes forget that Asterix is not common outside of Europe, so it baffled me how someone would not know Obelix origin story.
Definitely should include that on the first page of the book, along with the "... Not all of Gaul..."
It's uncommon in the USA and some part of asia.
It's still pretty famous on the rest of the world.
Yep suprise me too. I am in Quebec and Asterix is well know.

Actually, Athena _wouldn't_ have taken issue with archers, something her city-state of Athens employed in war all the damned time. Societies that worshipped Ares, however, did consider it cowardly.
Makes sense. Weird he did not realize that before suggesting the bloodlust god appreciate bows.

After all, a recurring theme in a series is lost on those who aren't into the series itself.
a screw up in a video lsiting scrw ups
a new record : 3

For the CW version of Manchester Black, they must have realized how silly it would be for the Union Jack to be a tattoo (and possibly because they hired a black actor and it wouldn't be as visible) and had him wear a bulletproof vest with it painted on instead
Wait, they had a black actor playing Manchester Black? Were they going for a more literal interpretation of his name, or...?

I mean he could reupload the reviews with that kinda of material removed and explain why in the description
11:23 Okay but let's be real _anything_ would hurt if Batman decided to swing it at you.
"Superman! Where are you going with that GIANT spoon?"
"I am taking it to a GIANT Hellstar to feed it a GIANT Hostess Fruit Pie!"
Superman's giant spoon will always be my favorite super-dictionary entry.
"Hey Bruce, can I have some ice cream?"
"Only a spoonful!"
"...😏"
100% agree with Civil War being bad. Beyond wanting to see everyone fight actual villains the writers intended for the guy who ruined his friend's reputation by cloning him and then said clone killed another one of thier friends, put another friend's family at risk as a political move, unethically brainwashed people, and paraded yet another one of his friends around after his defeat to set the circumstances of his assassination...was in the right.
I haven't read the comic of Civil War...which character did that?
@@theangryholmesian4556 Ironman. To specify he cloned Thor and the clone killed Goliath. Peter revealed his identity for the cause as Tony suggested which later leads to the terrible "one more day" Ironman, and iirc Mr. Fantastic and Yellow Jacket (Hank Pym) brainwashed villains to boost thier ranks. He had Cap arrested _publically_ which lead to iirc Crossbones shooting and killing him. That's not what Tony wanted but he really didn't take any precautions. Worst I recall Cap doing is sucker punching Ironman. He even gives up willingly seeing the destruction the two sides were causing. But the writers revealed thier intention was for Tony to be the "correct side" despite what they had him do
@@tjknight Huh. In the movie I was on Tony's side. But re Steve getting arrested didn't Steve surrender during/after a battle?
@@tjknight And to be fair Peter chose to reveal his identity. He could have said no/refused to do it.
@@theangryholmesian4556 the movie is vastly different, there I was on Tony's side too. Steve gave up in the middle of a battle, again: because of the destruction the two were causing. He was arrested in front of everyone afterwards
Hey, I'm with you on Manchester Black; I would NEVER have thought that was anything other than a shirt.
Thank you Lewis it’s been an awful year for us all (also thank you for the condolence to all who lost people because I lost my dad this year to cancer). I’m with you all the way and I will eagerly await whatever crazy, hilarious, bad or awesome comic comes our way. Merry Christmas to you and Viga and give my love and pets to your adorable kitty cats. 😁
Happy New year man and again to quote/paraphrase Col. Potter: We say good bye to 2020 and welcome 2021 May she be a better sight than the last one
There actually is a Polynesian shark-tooth club called a leiomano that looks pretty much just like that "sword" Batman picked up (or at least it can; the overall shape of the weapon varies a LOT).
But of course, I said "Polynesian." Not Mesoamerican. If that was supposed to be a macuahuitl, the artist was waaaaay off.
Wishing everyone a very prosperous NEW YEAR🥳✨🎇🎊🎉🎄🍾🥂
25:50 i really appreciate this message. it something that feel the early days of this type of review shows did a lot. so it always nice when someone acknowledges it. and put some light on the subject.
i know you dont need me to say this but, well done Lewis, that was a very mature thing to do.
I think the other, more calm "Look in the Mirror" is better. Ominous in its own way.
I wasn't expecting stuff like the last two. I hope the fandom appreciates you, and I think we know you mean well.
At least you try, I have seen youtubers who actually want creators and people who like them KILLED.
This is me finally finished ATT4W 2020. That was a hard year for me. I was an essential worker and we worked LOOOOONG shifts. 15 hours a day, four to five days a week. And we had tae do so in full PPE with almost no contact with others.
I'm a Support worker with adults who have life long brain damage. They were confused as tae what was going on and one clearly didn't like us wearing the visors and face masks. They were pretty much prisons in their homes as we couldn't take them out for their own safety.
I stopped doing everything I liked. Because of my shifts, I couldn't commit tae the online stuff most of my friends were doing.
Fun fact about Archers. If they were ever captured and the invading force wanted to send a message, they send them back with no middle finger. Since you can’t exactly use a bow and arrow without one. So that’s where giving somebody the middle finger came from! Just flaunting that they are way In the back of the formation so you can’t exactly stop them
from what i remember that's more of a myth than fact.
Most archers, as commoners, would've just been executed, rather than captured and ransomed.
I remember when I was a kid, I jumped in the salt-water section of our local pool with my eyes open. It was unpleasant to say the least.
Linkara, you are a bright spot in this miserable year. Thank you.
Also yelling anus should be Vita's catchphrase.
Linkara despite the many mistakes you've made, your biggest quality is that you learn from them and admit your wrong when you've gone to far. Thank your for all your hard work and happy new year!
Viga was clearing having way to much fun throwing beanie Babies at Linkara.
Yeah, Civil War was a mess. But, personally, I think Civil War 2 is WAY worse. I do hope Linkara can do a Top 15 list or a review one day.
honestly it commits the same major crime as civil war 1: villainise a popular hero, while still expecting us to sympathise with them on some level.
No, we do not sympathise with war criminals, CAROL. You're a goddamn VILLAIN.
@@sarafontanini7051 Exactly! It made me hate Carol.
Star Wars fans really need to listen to #1.
I've been a fan of Linkara since Blip. I think he's only gotten better over the years, and he already started off pretty good. I'm glad he keeps changing and growing. That's important to me, as is his acknowledgement when he screws up. So thanks. You've got a fan for life.
Erik Larsen deserves MORE love, in the Hellboy/Savage Dragon cross over he draws Adolph Hitler in a power mech getting hit so hard his brain comes out, and the brain gets transplanted into a monkey..... can Captain America do that? And in Spider-Verse turns out PERFECT Peter Parker was Erik Larsen's Spider-Man run. 90s Spider-Man did in deed suck, but not the Erik Larsen issues, those were fun, weird and bizarre. And yeah, a lot of Image comics sucked but hard to not enjoy someone who wanted to draw what they wanted to draw like Savage Dragon endorsing Obama.
