I still don't like the they resurrected Doctor Octopus. Sure his death wasn't iconic, like Kraven or the Green Goblin, but in the early 90's, they did a lot of great stuff with him. Web of Death is a great storyline, and captures the character of Doctor Octopus and his enmity with Spider-Man very well. I like Superior, but I still wish they had kept him dead.

How common is it for a superhero to fight a villain who's usually part of a different hero's rogues gallery? I mean I know it's happened, but I'm curious if it happens frequently or rarely or somewhere in-between.
@@adamdavis1648 I'd say it's rare to moderate. Early on in the career of a new hero being introduced is probably when you'd see it the most, like having a hero randomly happen upon some scheme of Electro at a carnival or something, to prove they can hang with the big boys. Other than that, it certainly can happen, but tends to not, mostly because the way villains are written usually involves some degree of desire for personal revenge, the hero champions an ideology the villain works against and naturally they come into conflict because of those issues, and often because they work together. One thing I would like to see would be a year long event basically where all the villains in the entire Marvel (or DC) universe come together in one giant organization, sharing the singular purpose of defeating all the heroes once and for all. That way, you'd see people like Mystique and the Chameleon being sent to infiltrate SHIELD, the sinister six attacking Hawkeye, etc.

Hot damn! First the Dinobites, now the truth about where the Confession came from, I should buy some lottery tickets! Also, I think Linkara's growing anger was actually a lot scarier than the Confession itself. Something about those low whispers, exasperated laughs, and his almost gleeful desire for revenge was so damn unsettling. Granted, anger is totally justified in this situation. But when you combine that with his growing paranoia at unknown beings entering the house, I really hope he doesn't end up making another mistake like when he almost cost Jaeris his chance at returning home.

I like that Confession tried to warn Linkara in the end. Yeah, he had a job, but if that guy was able to disrupt his sub dimension and erase Linkara’s memories of the event, then something more serious is probably happening and Linkara should know about it. Shame Confession didn’t really endear himself to be listened to, but you take what you can get!

Perhaps that's where the Entity came from: The Confession feels like a much weaker entity that uses nearly identical tactics, which pissed off the judges greatly: A potential combatant tried to do him in early as the ion storm rages on.
I'm surprised that the confession didn't turn out to be a pinhead pastiche but ip rights and things. I wonder since after dino fury Hasbro said they won't adapt sentai anymore what will become of hopr unless he plans to make hovr(vr troopers) just keep the series going. Another idea would be to start reviewing sentai and how he would have adapted it even though he said sentai isnt his cup of tea.
Two theories about what these watcher guys are: 1. They’re agents of the Temlins. Similar wardrobe to the guy who explained the Contest of Champions and punished Scarn for his disruption. They could be Temlins themselves, not sure. 2. “The experiment” relates back to Linkara’s most prolific crossover collaborator, and this is going to be a followup to Spoony’s lore
I really LOVE how you've been handling the storyline stuff, specifically within the last couple years. The contest of champions storyline and recent halloweens stuff has so many interwoven plotlines and different characters at play that it feels so much more refined and creative than a lot of other media-reviewer stories skits. Not casting any shade on other reviewers, It's just so COOL to see you put such a strong emphasis on the worldbuilding in your storylines.

Gotta admit, when Linkara asked Confession "Who sent you?", while Bandit Chief makes more sense for continuing the story, I thought it was gonna be revealed he was sent by Lavidian Scarn as part of a revenge plot.
Vyce had followers that the Blue Titan knew of, Bandit Chief wants to win and a shadowy entity like that is a trick Jaeris tried as a villain so it must be a known tactic, the “Doomsayer” Outer God is still a looming threat, Mechakara is at large, and Mirror Margaret is the current threat. Then, they fired Tom DeFalco, split the EIC position, gave the marketing department complete control, and then everything went off the rails. Clone Saga was supposed to end in ASM #400. Eventually after Maximum Clonage screwed everything up, and the stories after it sucked, it went on for a year longer. Once they decided to end it, it took them 8 months to figure out how. They originally planned for Harry Osborn to return as Gaunt and be the one behind everything. But then Bob Harass became EIC after they reconsolidated the 5 positions. He demanded that Norman Osborn be brought back and made the villain behind the whole thing.

I actually really like the design of the Grim Hunter and believed that he could've been an interesting successor to Kraven if given the chance. It seemed like MArvel were on to something with him stating that the mansion wasn't his home until recently so they could've explored that by making the Grim Hunter deal being that he wants to be a successor worthy of his Father. You could've done a nice parallel between him and Ben. Maybe be the end The Grim Hunter becomes an ally. Either way, Marvel really missed out on an opportunity to build Ben's rogues gallery here especially if he was being positioned to be the new Spider-Man going forward. They killed him before he even had a chance.

I'm honestly curious about what his thoughts of the "Clone Saga" miniseries from 2009 will be. It seemed pretty good and executed ideas that seemed more in line from many of the original plans from the saga, (combining "Smoke and Mirrors" with "Maximum Clonage" for one thing) so I'm wondering what Linkara's thoughts on it are. And if he's already mentioned it... please direct me to that.

Kaine is still one of my favourite characters. He had a great solo series a few years back that was unfortunately cut short although it continued in New Warriors... which was then cut short, also a good run though. Pretty much, if Kaine is involved, I will buy it.

I love that they thought that after the clone saga theyd just have ben change his name to peter and act like none of it ever happened thinking readers would forget, when everyone knows audiences are smarter than that For instance, its been 20 years and people still ask the Pokemon Company when the GS Ball plot will be resolved (tbf it was like a 20 episode arc)
I live in the Netherlands, so US versions of comics are hard to get, but I managed to get hold of the US versions of quite a lot of Spider-Man comics, most of which are stories from the clone saga, including the four you cover in this video. So this time I could read along. I really enjoy you doing the entire clone saga, as it fills in the gaps for the comics I'm missing.
If anyone is curious, ARES's only other appearance was in the Solo four issue limited series. That series did include Spider-Man as a supporting character and ended right before Web of Life was published, so readers at might have recognized ARES at the time. It's not surprising no one remembers them though.

For some reason, Kraven's son reminds me of sabertooth...as does kraven, actually. I think its that weird fluffy fur thing they were around their necks. Sabertooth has that too. On that note, I would love to see a fight between sabertooth and kraven the hunter...also, I'd prefer if they stop dicking around with sabertooth being a hero or villain. Leave him as a hero. The fact they keep flip flopping on that is weird, and tells me that sabertooth HAS fans in marvel...also the fact he's died and come back to life a few times.
I had no idea how the situation with Confession would be resolved, but I certainly wasn't expecting Linkara to be saved by the Cyberleader who battled the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Doctors.

@@cassie6146 Or they legitimately fit into the True Neutral aspect and their research is uninterested in these conflicts of lower beings. Academic interest would be a likely endeavor, but it could also be just trying to maintain some balance, like the Rilmani in D&D (though they were unpopular for that reason, since that isn't an easy story thing to make compelling versus just stupid in some way)
The Gregor who went after Kazar in the Savage Land was not a butler to the Kravinov family, but Kraven's mentor, one of the people who trained him as a hunter. If this Gregor is supposed to be the same guy, the writers and editor dropped the ball again.
Question: how is "Kain" a title. Answer: it is a misspelled version of Cain, the 1st murderer. most likely meant to be edgy and symbolic at the same time.

Perhaps that's where the Entity came from: The Confession feels like a much weaker entity that uses nearly identical tactics, which pissed off the judges greatly: A potential combatant tried to do him in early as the ion storm rages on.
I'm surprised that the confession didn't turn out to be a pinhead pastiche but ip rights and things. I wonder since after dino fury Hasbro said they won't adapt sentai anymore what will become of hopr unless he plans to make hovr(vr troopers) just keep the series going. Another idea would be to start reviewing sentai and how he would have adapted it even though he said sentai isnt his cup of tea.

1. They’re agents of the Temlins. Similar wardrobe to the guy who explained the Contest of Champions and punished Scarn for his disruption. They could be Temlins themselves, not sure.
2. “The experiment” relates back to Linkara’s most prolific crossover collaborator, and this is going to be a followup to Spoony’s lore

I really LOVE how you've been handling the storyline stuff, specifically within the last couple years. The contest of champions storyline and recent halloweens stuff has so many interwoven plotlines and different characters at play that it feels so much more refined and creative than a lot of other media-reviewer stories skits.
Not casting any shade on other reviewers, It's just so COOL to see you put such a strong emphasis on the worldbuilding in your storylines.
Not gonna lie, I love your side story segments, because you never know what you get, and the absolutely outraged "CRUDE?!?" from Confession had me laughing so hard XD

Gotta admit, when Linkara asked Confession "Who sent you?", while Bandit Chief makes more sense for continuing the story, I thought it was gonna be revealed he was sent by Lavidian Scarn as part of a revenge plot.

Vyce had followers that the Blue Titan knew of, Bandit Chief wants to win and a shadowy entity like that is a trick Jaeris tried as a villain so it must be a known tactic, the “Doomsayer” Outer God is still a looming threat, Mechakara is at large, and Mirror Margaret is the current threat.

Then, they fired Tom DeFalco, split the EIC position, gave the marketing department complete control, and then everything went off the rails. Clone Saga was supposed to end in ASM #400. Eventually after Maximum Clonage screwed everything up, and the stories after it sucked, it went on for a year longer. Once they decided to end it, it took them 8 months to figure out how. They originally planned for Harry Osborn to return as Gaunt and be the one behind everything. But then Bob Harass became EIC after they reconsolidated the 5 positions. He demanded that Norman Osborn be brought back and made the villain behind the whole thing.

I actually really like the design of the Grim Hunter and believed that he could've been an interesting successor to Kraven if given the chance. It seemed like MArvel were on to something with him stating that the mansion wasn't his home until recently so they could've explored that by making the Grim Hunter deal being that he wants to be a successor worthy of his Father. You could've done a nice parallel between him and Ben. Maybe be the end The Grim Hunter becomes an ally. Either way, Marvel really missed out on an opportunity to build Ben's rogues gallery here especially if he was being positioned to be the new Spider-Man going forward. They killed him before he even had a chance.

I'm honestly curious about what his thoughts of the "Clone Saga" miniseries from 2009 will be. It seemed pretty good and executed ideas that seemed more in line from many of the original plans from the saga, (combining "Smoke and Mirrors" with "Maximum Clonage" for one thing) so I'm wondering what Linkara's thoughts on it are. And if he's already mentioned it... please direct me to that.
I mean it’s post-OMD so unless the recent Kindred storyline acknowledges what all the fans have been theorizing for a year, he won’t review it.

Kaine is still one of my favourite characters. He had a great solo series a few years back that was unfortunately cut short although it continued in New Warriors... which was then cut short, also a good run though.

I live in the Netherlands, so US versions of comics are hard to get, but I managed to get hold of the US versions of quite a lot of Spider-Man comics, most of which are stories from the clone saga, including the four you cover in this video. So this time I could read along. I really enjoy you doing the entire clone saga, as it fills in the gaps for the comics I'm missing.
If anyone is curious, ARES's only other appearance was in the Solo four issue limited series. That series did include Spider-Man as a supporting character and ended right before Web of Life was published, so readers at might have recognized ARES at the time. It's not surprising no one remembers them though.

For some reason, Kraven's son reminds me of sabertooth...as does kraven, actually. I think its that weird fluffy fur thing they were around their necks. Sabertooth has that too.
On that note, I would love to see a fight between sabertooth and kraven the hunter...also, I'd prefer if they stop dicking around with sabertooth being a hero or villain. Leave him as a hero. The fact they keep flip flopping on that is weird, and tells me that sabertooth HAS fans in marvel...also the fact he's died and come back to life a few times.
I had no idea how the situation with Confession would be resolved, but I certainly wasn't expecting Linkara to be saved by the Cyberleader who battled the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Doctors.

Maybe for once the mysterious otherworldly beings aren't actually a threat, but are just interdimensional anthropologists researching comic book nerds in their natural habitat.
@@cassie6146 Or they legitimately fit into the True Neutral aspect and their research is uninterested in these conflicts of lower beings. Academic interest would be a likely endeavor, but it could also be just trying to maintain some balance, like the Rilmani in D&D (though they were unpopular for that reason, since that isn't an easy story thing to make compelling versus just stupid in some way)
