I live in NC, and I can promise you, the situation here is far more dire than any media outlet or politician is letting on. It's truly apocalyptic and survivors are beginning to take matters into their own hands and are stopping at nothing to survive. The clear majority of people who are helping are volunteers who live in neighboring communities.

Part of the problem in the Appalachian and Smocky Mountain areas is that evacuating is not really much of an option, and communications are nearly impossible in many of those locations. The administration clearly was clueless about how to handle this.
