Lounge is the unofficial ranking system for Mario Kart 8 Deluxe! When you wish to compete, you will play against other players of similar match-making rating (MMR). Depending on your MMR, you will place in one of the numerous ranks in Lounge:
Iron 1: 0-999 MMR
Iron 2: 1000-1999 MMR (Placement: 1500)
Bronze 1: 2000-2999 MMR (Placement: 2500)
Bronze 2: 3000-3999 MMR (Placement: 3500)
Silver 1: 4000-4999 MMR (Placement: 4500)
Silver 2: 5000-5999 MMR
Gold 1: 6000-6999 MMR
Gold 2: 7000-7999 MMR
Platinum 1: 8000-8999 MMR
Platinum 2: 9000-9999 MMR
Sapphire 1: 10000-10999 MMR
Sapphire 2: 11000-11999 MMR
Ruby 1: 12000-12999 MMR
Ruby 2: 13000-13999 MMR
Diamond 1: 14000-14999 MMR
Diamond 2: 15000-15999 MMR
Master: 16000-16999 MMR
Grandmaster: 17000+ MMR
Depending on your rank, you will only be eligible to compete in some of the following tiers:
Tier G: Iron 1 + Iron 2 + Placement
Tier FG: Iron 2 + Bronze 1
Tier F: Bronze 1 + Bronze 2
Tier EF: Bronze 2 + Silver 1
Tier E: Silver 1 + Silver 2
Tier DE: Silver 2 + Gold 1
Tier D: Gold 1 + Gold 2
Tier CD: Gold 2 + Platinum 1
Tier C: Platinum 1 + Platinum 2
Tier BC: Platinum 2 + Sapphire 1
Tier B: Sapphire 1 + Sapphire 2
Tier AB: Sapphire 2 + Ruby 1
Tier A: Ruby 1+
Tier S: Ruby 2+
Tier X: Diamond 1+
If you're just getting started, you will be placed in either Iron or Bronze. You'll typically see the seasoned veterans in Sapphire or above.

Your videos help me sooo much to get better in lounge and at the game in general. I like how you describe everything you (will) do in the race and why option 2 is better than option 1.
In fact, I didn't played lounge for 2 weeks, I watched your videos and JUST BY WATCHING when I came back, I went directly from silver 2 to gold 2. So tysm for still uploading this series and I hope it will continue

One of the best moments I had playing Mario Kart was watching the Eurovision live this year, while playing online and trying that Mario GLA Combo. I probably got a streak of 30 races where I either got 1st or 2nd. Good times.

Hi JPG, are you taking the time to rewatch your races? Tier A players are way more devious and punish more frequently your mistakes. You need to be more detail-oriented when it comes to picking trajectories and avoiding other people’s powerups, and the best way to do this is to analyze thoroughly your mistakes and keep track of them to see which areas you need to improve on the most.

I've been playing mk a lot more recently and think i'm pretty good. ive registered on mkcentral, but i still dont know how to participate in lounge events. could someone plz offer me some help. plz and thank you
Genuine question, I’ve noticed in the most recent videos that your performance has been dropping off compared to the others where you would do average or above, you explain in the video that their MMR might be inflated causing people from higher ranks to come down and so you’re playing higher ranked people.
However, I believe you should still have somewhat of a chance against these people and I’m just wondering what do you think you could improve on in order to get better at this game? I think your item management is fine, but there’s points where your split moment decision making is a bit slow (not throwing blue shell despite you needing your second item to not hit your teammate is a good example of this), or maybe you think your lines are a little off. Honestly I could also see it being recording in general adding a pressure to explain to the audience your thought process before you do it rather than after.
I’ve been loving these videos and it’s fascinating to watch. I hope my words don’t sound harsh. Keep up the great work ❤️

@@nappa3550 sure, but there has to be something he can do outside of these events that may help him adapt quicker and understanding that may help. I’m thinking about picking up MK8DX but the issue is, you’ll run into walls like this and I have zero clue how you can improve from here or how to go about doing it.
The people are better than him, he needs to adapt, but how? Is it better item management? How do you practice that? Quiz yourself over different scenarios or maybe discuss better strategy with your opponent? This is the part where it gets tricky because there’s no clear way to improve except for “git gudder”
At JPG's skill level where his technical skills and fundamentals are already highly competent, most of it is just gonna come down to gradual improvements over time based on the experience you get playing against higher ranked players. Obviously for newer players, practicing lines, learning item strategy, and mastering shortcuts is an easy way to improve quickly, but once you are a more advanced player, further skill improvements will obviously become much more gradual and hard to notice.
@@felixscienski8627 great answer, I guess I can’t help but feel the skill cap is lower than the other games that I currently play competitively (Smash/Pokémon) where you have different facets you can practice and it isn’t all up to experience and there are things you can do in practice modes or practicing different team comps and doing research to understanding how teambuilding works or understanding frame data and match ups.
It feels like once you understand the lines and you know how to properly hold items, it’s harder and harder to push that ceiling, where-as with smash, you can always practice your movement or there’s some other tech you can implement into your gameplay that can help you improve by a decent margin. The same with Pokémon where you can try out different EV spreads and do research into what other people are running and practice with those teams.
This isn’t to diss on MK8DX, rather it’s just analyzing how the meta game works and etc. it’s generally what I do before I decide to involve myself in a game at this deep of a level.

I don't think there's really any point on introducing new tracks because online races are just always the same tracks
