  • In this video I'm showing you how to Clear the Transmission Adaptive Tables within the PCM of the Ford F150. We will use FORScan and an adapter cable (linked below) to make this change. I highly suggest everyone do this if you are seeing rough or hard shifting of your 10 speed F150 transmission!

I just did this on my 2019 Platinum. Shifted really good to begin with.
If not looking at the gear indicator, I would not have known it shifted sometimes.
What I did notice after clearing the tables and disabling learning mode is that I can manipulate upshift/downshift somewhat with the pedal.
It just seem that the trans is doing what I tell it to do instead of what the learned tables thinks it should be doing.
    If that makes sense.

Yes I understand you. Sounds like it made an improvement for you? I’m currently running with learning disabled and doing a video on my experience with it. How do you like it so far with it off?

@@SmackeysGarage its only been a few days and about 100 miles but so far so good.
Tried it on a couple of 6-7* inclines and it seems to really respond to pedal input better when I want a gear change.
Seems easier to just get a 1 gear downshift instead of 2 or sometimes 3 on a climb.

Cool glad to hear. I’ll have to try some inclines as well. I’m only about 50 miles in but mostly highway

I have to do this every couple months. Truck seems to want to shift to higher gears too soon. I wish we could just disable the transmissions adaptive learning permanently.

I believe there is a way to do that. Should be on the same screen as the clear pcm on the latest version of Forscan. I’ll double check tomorrow.

If you stop the video at 02:33 you can see the PCM: Stop use of Transmission Adaptive and then there is a corresponding resume.

There is a ford specific scan tool that works very similarly to forscan that allows adaptive learning resets and disabling. I drive a 2015 taurus sho and ive done about 8 kam resets and my car never learns the shift points correctly. I drove a 2018 explorer sport a couple months back with similar shift issues. The problem with adaptive transmission learning is it CAN learn bad habits and can be really frustrating for the owner.
In my opinion the idea of the transmission learning to shift based on user input is kind of redundant. I feel the tcm should be calibrated from the factory to ALWAYS shift smooth no matter what and throttle input shouldn't be the prime factor influencing shift quality. I ordered my Launch Creader x431 scan tool and hoping to have my tcm learning disabled early next year.

Interesting. Do you know the name of the ford specific scan tool? Or if you remember it let me know. I did a video recently on using FORScan to turn off the adaptive learning. So far so good with it.

It's covered under my warranty. It hasn't been fixed yet been waiting two months to get in . They told me to just keep driving it until they get the parts. Maybe I'll get a trans if this one blows up,

Ditto on my 2019. 4,500 miles outside of powertrain warranty. Extended warranty covered $750 of a $4,900 full trans overhaul. Report stated low fluid. Well, it was filled that way from the factory. No love from Ford.
