    Back in the late 70’s, the Southern Sportsman (Franc White) had a tv episode where he floated a creek and squirrel hunted. He was living near Greenville, NC so I suspect he was floating Contentnea Creek but idk. I’ve seen a few of his surviving episodes on RUclips, but unfortunately not that squirrel hunt. What I wouldn’t give to see that one again…so glad you posted your hunt.

    This brings me back to my initial love for the outdoors with my father back in the 70's. He and I spent a lot of time scaring squirrels! ❤️
    Also, not a lot of comments about Appetite for the Outdoors. Keep them coming. I love simple, yet delicious wild game recipes!

      It can be a little bit of a hassle depending on where they fall but it's good to stretch the legs regularly! If they fall in the water pay attention to exactly where they fall cause they don't float! A fish net may useful in certain situations! Show us some pics of your success this winter!

    I was wondering if the ammunition that you were using was Sub sonic or not. The gun almost sounds suppressed.

    • @CarolinaALLOUT
      @CarolinaALLOUT  3 месяца назад

      We were surprised by how quiet it was too when we got the gun back. To answer your question, No the ammo isn't sub-sonic. I would like to look at the options for sub-sonic ammo though. If you put a can on that thing with subsonic ammo I think all you'd hear is the firing pin fall.

      We got this small tank from Amazon but the new kits coming out soon from @CarolinaCooker will have the refillable 1lb tank included! This was a game changer for us as far as creating space and dropping the weight of the kit significantly! We'll be posting videos about this in our social media posts soon! You'll be able to order this through our online store as well as Agri Supply and Carolina Cooker.

      Thanks for watching the show and your comments! We, of course, do not promote violating game laws. We're only aware of the rule of shooting migratory game birds, under power or in forward motion from power. Or shooting deer in water above their ankles. Not squirrels. That being said, We were obviously not under power when shooting squirrels(it was hard enough to shoot the things sitting perfectly still.) Lol. If you know of a rule in North Carolina That does not permit this, could you please cite this for us. Thanks again for watching! We always want to be on the right side of the law!

    I aint sure this is completely legal. Rivers and creeks are public, but shooting game and retrieving it on dry land could be considered trespassing, right? Got to have permission to get outa the boats.

    Although you did not name the river, your suggested that you were in one of the "central" counties. Only a few of the eastern NC counties state you have to have permission to hunt with a rifle (which you were). This allows hunting with a bow (or cross-bow) or a shotgun (targets deer hunting with a rifle) but ALL the rest of the counties (including where you appeared to be in a "central" county, state you must have "permission to hunt". I also only hunt from a canoe - have to many many years now and have reviewed this regulation, once in court but numerous times with the Wildlife officers. You cannot HUNT someone's property (floating by) except in some (not all) of the eastern NC counties.
    Additionally, saw earlier comment about hunting using a motorized boat. This is correct NCWL (just referenced 2024-2025 regulations (page 56) states,
    "It is unlawful to use any of the following in taking wild birds or animals:
    - ...
    - vessels: ... under power, or with the engine running, or while still in the motion from such propulsion; except crippled waterfowl...
    The other issue is with the variation by counties."
    Again - hunting from a boat is my favorite way to hunt. But - you have to check County for County - and back to paddling, not your trolling motor.

    • @CarolinaALLOUT
      @CarolinaALLOUT  4 месяца назад +2

      Thanks for watching @EdwardOutdoorAdventures! We were hunting on game lands(both sides). We absolutely were not under power at any point when shooting a squirrel. (I only wish I were that good). If you detect movement in the video when the squirrel was shot that was because that was the cameraman's perspective, not the shooter's.
      With your experience in hunting from a canoe, I'm sure you could attest to how difficult it is to get a clean shot off on a squirrel in a continually moving boat. I had to spend a lot of time trying to find a spot that I could be perfectly still against something stationary to make a shot. We try our best to promote hunting and fishing in an ethical way and by the books. We don't go into a lot of detail on the "how to's" but always encourage viewers to ALWAYS do their homework. Thanks again for watching!

      @@CarolinaALLOUT Game Lands - I had this thought as I know there are some paddle huntable areas. I have hunted Bunter-Falls of the Neuse - Little River.
      However, sorry to pike back, you still had the trolling motor issue. Per conversation with Game Wardens about hunting from my canoe, the Game Warden stated, "if I want to give you a ticket, I will." That is, having the motor, instead of paddling would be hard to defend, even with the video footage you had.

    Enjoyed the video but could you explain in detail the rifle you are using.
    That is not any Ruger 10/22 model sold today.
    Also it's not a CZ. My research is it looks like a Remington, or a Henry. ( so I dont know what to think )
    Could you drop a line that might explain it better.
