I couldn't finish Sly 4 because of how it treated Carmelita. The new devs just did not get her. From the clothing to the role she was given... Carmelita was capital i Important to me. I was immensely disappointed. I believe the 2 and 3 art style was a big thing for me, it gave Carmelita and the rest of the cast so much character. The art in 4... Not for me.

I've never played the games but always liked Sly and Carmelita's dynamic. This analysis is really good and made me see their relationship in a new light
Speaking of Carmelita voices, I'll always hold that the Finnish VA for her is the best forever (mostly because that was my childhood, lol)
I hope Sly 4's treatment of Carmelita is just quietly retconned if Sucker Punch or some other studio does eventually return to the franchise. The writing of that game just didn't feel like it followed on from Sly 3, but rather it felt like some kind of alternate universe fanfiction.
I legit thought this was going to be all about how they change her voice every game . lol
What I loved growing up with video games specifically talking here on the sly cooper trilogy
Is that it was vary mature and respected their audience
It show cased the confliction of duty, honor, with being open minded and pragmatic
I'm still watching this video and may create a reaction video (more so analysis) digging into points and my memory on the matter
It was wonderful growing up with these games and im glad people are still playing this gem, and articulating a point that should be valued and treasured
Replaying after many years and 100% the trilogy was a treat all over again and I'm more than happy to share that with others
Overall so far a splendid video and I will finish it

If anything I would love for someone to make an anime-esque retelling of the Sly Trilogy and maybe a little rewriting for Sly 4.
I'm not a furry but Carmelita is definitely one of my favorite characters, and I'm not a furry but she is definitely one of the main reasons that the Sly Cooper series is one of my favorite game franchises from my childhood.
And I'm not a furry but I did at several points study various artist depictions of Carmelita on the internet for purely academic purposes.

I’m glad I found this video cause I never played these games outside of the demo of “thieves in time” I think so I’ve always wanted to learn about Carmelita. Thx for the video in helping me understand her. Not sure if anything may have been misinterpreted or what but I’ll take your word on her character in this video. I've never noticed that Carmelita had a similar character development than Sly.
I personally always only liked her in the first game, where she is a bit more than a side character.
The versions forward (Thieves in Time excluded) were fine, but they made her appear more like a "forced" important character, as she was on screen ONLY when absolutely necessary.
But I mean, she was always fine. Still better than "the tits" type of character that a lot of games had back then.
Very nice video by the way! I wasn't expecting an analysis from the point of view of a WOMAN OMG, but it definitely enhanced the understanding of the character more, and also made me draw some curious questions related to female characters in games.

Sly Cooper is my favorite video game franchise aside from Grand Theft Auto.
Enjoyed this video greatly! Loved hearing your insight and the points you made about Carmelita's development throughout the series and how women's roles in gaming has grown. Even though I thought her working along side the Cooper Gang in the 4th game allowed her to grow a bit more, I totally agree they made her hypocritical and overly bitter (not to mention unnecassarily sexualizing her smh).
Sly 2 was definitely the best version of Carmelita we got!

I would much rather have the first three games be faithfully remade like Crash and Spyro with the fourth game ignored. Trying to build off of that one would be a mistake.

I would rather have a "It's About Time treatment" for Sly aswell.
Also, not to cope or anything, but Thieves in Time is NOT labelled as Sly 4, so TECHNICALLY it can be considered a spinoff.
i'm a strange creature that's true personally i do want sly 5 after 4 i do think the reason to to protect the timeline is good enough but i would like it more if they push that sly wants a normal life i woulden't mind it if they fix certain things in it's writing and all i do want i don't want them to forget the whole thing from sly 3 i do think protecting the timeline was foresure.. i kind of want sly 5 to bascally do.

yeah how much of the game would of been different if Carmelita wore pants? your telling me that Murray or Carmelita can't beat two guards? Its so pointless in the grand scheme of things. I wonder how different things would be if we got the planned story dlc vs the bentley hack pack stuff. if i recall they finished the game early and made the hack pack after.

Sly himself says she's more than a match for mugshot. Gun aside she can hurt him with her kicks. since muggys laughs off Murray punching him in Holland? Sly was right.
She beat Dr.M's giant monster while trapped on a boat with it.
Honestly it's easy to forget she's just as capable as sly. It's like zuko from atla, when chasing the protagonist. When doing anything else? She's got it handled.
So yeah those two mandrels guards must be even tougher than shadow guards apparently.
