Fun fact: Gene Hackman was already an iconic actor by the time this movie came out and Keanu Reeves always wanted to work with him so he took a paycut in order to work alongside Gene Hackman. Keanu Reeves will always be Shane Falco. One of my favorite all time movies.
I believe he took a pay cut so they could afford to get Gene Hackman. Have heard a few stories like this about Keanu that makes him stand out from many other A listers.
Gene Hackman is the actor you identified as the unhinged character in "Unforgiven". He has a very long career with many roles played. I liked his character in "Enemy of the State".
They rehearsed the movie right by my house at Glen Burnie high school in Glen Burnie,Maryland. Keanu was there for about 3 weeks. He hung out afterwards and signed stuff. Cell phones weren't like they are now so it was a lot more relaxed. Keanu was a really humble guy and it was awesome to talk to him. They filmed the football games at Ravens stadium. Thanks for sharing.
You're getting to see a few sides of Gene Hackman. :) Excellent actor. His early career was mostly in TV. He hit it big in movies with Bonnie and Clyde (1967), and then with The French Connection. Other outstanding roles are The Poseidon Adventure, Uncommon Valor (with Patrick Swayze), as Lex Luthor in the Christopher Reeve Superman movies, Hoosiers, No Way Out (with Kevin Costner), Bat*21, The Firm (with Tom Cruise), Crimson Tide (with Denzel Washington), and Absolute Power (where he's the President of the United States and is again pitted against Clint Eastwood).
I like that you liked the conventionality of the film. Your reaction was really cute and fun. The Replacements is one of my favorite sports movies for all the reasons you liked it. You were asking if anyone form the team would get signed after the strike ended. The answer is no. Remember that the striking player are part of a Union. One of the agreements to them coming back is usually that no replacement players be signed because they wouldn't be accepted. That actually happened in 1987. The only players who were welcomed back were the Pro players who chose not to go on strike and played anyway. GREAT REACTION!
This was one of the most fun reactions you've done so far. You put so much heart and warmth and work into this, that you deserve every bit of success you can wring from it. Also loved your tryout on instagram. For those that don't follow her on IG, you're missing out.
Cliché 90's / early 2000's sports movies are my guilty pleasure. Brings me back to that era and the nostalgia hits! So cool to see someone else enjoy them too.
We can never forget Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints who kicked a 63 yard field goal in 1970 with a club foot. He was born with no toes on his kicking foot and wore an Orthopedic shoe while playing, along with a pronounced limp. He held the longest field goal record of 63 yards for 43 years until his record was passed by Matt Prater of the Broncos in 2013.
It is a real shame the real Washington NFL team didn't go with The Sentinels in honor of this movie. It was the clear fan favorite and the film owners were willing to wave the rights.
It's a shame they changed it to begin with because Native Americans overwhelmingly didn't care. I've actually met a lot more of them that were pissed off because of the change.
😂movies got you shook. You where beaming the whole time. Your authenticity and editor makes this the best reaction channel I've ever seen. Can't wait for you to watch so much more!
Fun fact: The scene where Keanu is playing catch with Gene Hackman's character was one Keanu's birthday. He didn't tell anyone, and when they asked why he worked on his birthday, he did it because he wanted to play catch with Gene Hackman.
As a former college athlete (baseball) this movie hits hard. We all dream of that second chance to be great on the field. Sadly, for most of us our glory days are long past. It's an amazing feeling to come together as team and overcome all odds to become legends worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as your heroes. This movie brings out many emotions in me and while some hurt, I wouldn't change the past. We were heroes once. Just for one day.
I was pretty much always on the Goliath (every time I hear someone flip out because that one year they "went to state" makes me laugh a bit inside because I can't relate), but personally we all have to put the work in. So is it a dream or nightmare those three nights a year when you're asleep and finding out that you actually have a year of eligibility left?
I played football until I was a freshman in college. Quit after the 3rd game due to concussions. But I miss it all the time. What I would do to just play one more drive
@@w41duvernay Football is probably more popular than you think in Canada, their is the CFL and a lot of toronto residents root for the Bills. Its not anywhere near the U.S obviously but every highschool has a football team and a lot of people watch NFL
The NFL record is 66 yards, kicked by my teams kicker Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens,...speaking of Baltimore this movie was filmed there, and football scenes were filmed at M&T Bank Stadium where the Ravens play.
What I like about the Baltimore connection is like you said it was filmed at Ravens stadium with a quarterback named Falco and later on the Balimore Ravens had a quarterback named FLACCO.
What's funny about this in particular is that this film dropped in 2000, when the record was 63 yards and had stood for almost 30 years by that time. And then thee very next year, Jason Elam tied the record in Denver and we've gotten one that's a yard further once every five years or so since then.
I've seen this movie so many times and I was surprised to learn it was inspired by true events from the 1987 strike and that actual Washington Redskins team.
I love how much fun you had during this movie; just a fun, ridiculous, good-time sports movie. You can't not have a smile on your face at the end of it.
Had so much fun watching this with you, Cassie. It's one of the greatest feel good movies of all time, and one of my top 10. Gene Hackman is a legend. Every character is perfectly cast, but Hackman really brings it all together.
This is low key one of my favorite movies. It's just so fun and entertaining, and actually has a decent message about doing your best and people making the most of a second chance.
This is one of the funniest sports movies I've ever seen! This movie has heart with great characters. All of the cast enjoyed working on this film. Cassie, you will love this one. Happy Friday!🍿🏈❤️
Fun Fact - all of the extras and non-named football player characters were played by professional and college football players. Additionally, all the Sentinel assistant coaches and opposing coaches were played by professional coaches - most of which were used to train the actors to better play football players! When they made this film, they made good use of the available resources!
Omg!! This is one of the funniest sports movies I’ve ever seen! Random quotes still pop into my head now and then. And it’s got such heart too. Definitely looking forward to this!
I'd much rather have seen the movie Keanu actually signed on to do. It wasn't... this. And it certainly wasn't a celebration of scabs crossing picket lines.
"What does read blitz mean?" Blitz is when the defenders rush the QB to try to sack him or make him rush his throw. A quick outlet pass to a RB can be effective against the blitz. Falco said he "read blitz" so he didn't do the play that Gene Hackman had called, but tossed it to a runner.
To be super specific a blitz is when a defensive back rushes the QB rather than going into coverage. It has gone a bit out of fashion as it is very risky for the defense. In the 00s Ronde Barber and Darren Woodsen excelled at disguising their intent and got a few sacks every year.
While the characters were "mostly" fictional, the background story of the players going on strike was based on the true story of the NFL lockout when the owners really did use replacement players. The Washington Redskins story from the lockout is similar to the story in this movie. And they actually did bring a player out of prison in real life for the Redskins, that's where the "mostly" part comes from.
Former Ohio State QB Shane Falco had a slightly better career than former Ohio State QB Johnny Utah. In my fictional Ohio State QB headcannon, they roomed together.
I absolutely enjoy watching your movie reactions. You get so invested into it and it makes it so much more entertaining. Hands down the best reactor on RUclips.
I had the biggest smile on my face when I saw this in my recommended videos section. So glad you and anyone for that matter is sharing their first time reaction to THIS movie. Thank you!
This has been one of my comfort movies for awhile. When I went through a separation with my ex wife I watched this movie, Friends and Office Space on repeat. Those three helped me through, this movie will always have a place in my heart.
Loved your reaction to this. You were really having fun watching the movie. I rewatched this movie the other day to get ready for your reaction 😀. Two other movies that come to mind are Necessary Roughness (football) and Major League (baseball). They are both sports comedy movies.
I was just thinking the same thing. They had to use students from the university. Quite a few that aren’t exactly jocks. With Scott Bakula, Sinbad, Kathy Ireland, Robert Loggia, Hector Elizondo.
This has got to be my favorite reaction to a movie. You killed it, my hat off to you for such a great and great job. Your reaction was just as good as the movie
I have to say that this has to be the most fun reaction I've seen you do. I swear you laughed more than half of the movie. It was so much fun! Keep up the great reactions!
Thank you so much for this reaction. This is one of my top 4 movies of all time. My only regret was I could never watch for a first time again. But you just gave me that. Watching your reaction was just like watching it all over again. This movie is awesome. It truly does have everything. I think it's a very underrate movie. Gene Hackman may be one of the best actors of all time. Jack Warden who played the owner was in so many movies and TV show including the original 12 Angry Men with Henry Fonda. And Keanu Reeves and many others in this cast are very good. ANd yes tat was the real John Madden and Pat Summerall who did games together for decades. Not sure if anyone else said it but this is loosely based on the Washington (redskins at the time) during the strike shortened season. In 1987 the players walked out and the owners locked them out. They cancelled week 3 and used replacement players for weeks 4 5 and 6. Joe Gibbs and Bobby Beathard had put together a list of players they wanted in case that happened. They assembled the team and won all three replacement games including the last one against dallas who had almost the entire team cross the picket line. So the replacements did play mostly starters and won 13-7. They ended the season 11-4 and won the Super Bowl with Doug Williams, the first black QB to start in a SB. The real story is as compelling as the movie one.
Cassie always has a certain wholesomeness to her videos, but 13:09 had to be the cutest thing I've ever seen from this channel. Much love from Washington State.
Love that you've seen We Are Marshall... I moved to Huntington in 1990 and started working at Marshall in 1997. Still work there. Watched the movie being made. You cannot imagine the impact that film had on this town. It was like permission was finally given to deal with the trauma out in the open. And trust me, there was/is so much trauma, even now. It's not the best movie ever made but in my book it's one of the most important ever made.
As an Oklahoma State fan, I know exactly what that's like. We lost 10 staff/players from the men's basketball program in 2001, and 4 coaches/donors from the women's basketball team in 2011. Those plane crashes may have happened a decade(s) ago, but in a tight-knit community, you run into their widows around town, their children, their parents. You meet people who knew them and tell stories about them like they just hung out with them the previous week. You see tributes to them to keep their memories alive. The saying, "Time heals all wounds," is accurate to a degree. As time has passed, people focus much more on the happy memories and celebrate their lives more than they mourn their deaths. But at the same time, you can still feel how much they wish they were still here with them. No amount of time will ever change that.
the replacements has always been such a fun watch. i think the line that cracked me up the most the first time i saw it was the "oh, then it looks exactly how it feels" lol
My absolute favourite Keanu flick. THANKS! The range he shows has always spoiled me for the rest of the movies he would do. I love Wick and Neo and also Lake house onwards... but man, he is great and such a natural as Falco, what can I say, his smile is awesome. Such a gem; the camaraderie is so good. I think when I first came across your channel, I recommended this and Bull Durham for YOU specifically, so happy you liked this :D
I love the Lake House, it's my pretend sequel to Speed for Keanu and Sandra. They're my favorite couples in movies after Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks and Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.

66 yard FG is the record. It was just broken this past season by Kicker Justin Tucker from the Baltimore Ravens. The previous record was 63 yards, held by Jason Elam when he played for the Denver Broncos.

It called the Electric Slide. Pre dates line dancing. More flavor. The moves and transitions are fluid not choppy steps like line dancing. Like the difference between Chinese Martial Art and it's a Japanese derivative. Closest analogy. Small things lost in translation. Electric Slide happens at major gatherings for U.S. black folks: weddings, cookouts, reunions, etc It usually breaks out when the old school R&B and disco gets played. Its a dance everyone can do, regardless of age, size, gender or how much you had to drink...up to a point. Lol

Fun fact: Gene Hackman was already an iconic actor by the time this movie came out and Keanu Reeves always wanted to work with him so he took a paycut in order to work alongside Gene Hackman.
Keanu Reeves will always be Shane Falco. One of my favorite all time movies.
Johnny Utah for me. "Utah. Gimme TWO!"
I believe he took a pay cut so they could afford to get Gene Hackman. Have heard a few stories like this about Keanu that makes him stand out from many other A listers.
One of the only normal people/ classy actors left in Hollywood
Keanu Reeves is one of my favorites; Hackman is near the top of that list. :-)
Gene Hackman is the actor you identified as the unhinged character in "Unforgiven". He has a very long career with many roles played. I liked his character in "Enemy of the State".
One of my favorite roles he did (even though I know it wasn’t really him) was his appearance in South Park as “Hack Man”
He's my favorite Lex Luthor
Excellent in Crimson Tide, my fave of his.
He was fantastic in "Enemy of the State."
Gene Hackman never put in a bad performance.
The Replacements is such an underrated classic. I caught it randomly playing on TBS one night and now I try to watch it any time I see it on.
Same here 🏈 one of my favorites with Keanu reeves
I love Brian winning the game and firing up the crowd. I can only imagine the vibrations a deaf person feels in a loud stadium.
I never thought about that. Great comment! 🥲

Excellent actor.
A Bridge Too Far.
The French Connection should have been in the Detective Poll...
The Package, Get Shorty,
Yes!!! Uncommon Valor A great film that not too many people know about. I've liked it since I was A kid

Greatest sports movie ever. I've also never seen someone hate Martell THIS much. Like, murderous rage whenever he was on screen it was impressive.

WILD CATS! Beautiful movie with the amazing Goldie Hawn!
The way you reacted to this is exactly how I’ve always felt about this movie. It has no business being this good!

If you're on a quest for more Gene Hackman movies, Hoosiers is a must. Enemy of the State is a ton of fun too.
Hoosiers. Agree 100%
She'd lose her mind over Hoosiers
Indeed. Outstanding film.
He may have a short appearance, but Gene Hackman was also great in Young Frankenstein. She'd get a kick out of that.
Enemy of the state had no business being that good of a movie god that one aged well..
Cliché 90's / early 2000's sports movies are my guilty pleasure. Brings me back to that era and the nostalgia hits! So cool to see someone else enjoy them too.
One of my favorites. It's the best, goofiest, rollercoaster, "everyman" movie ever made.
Thanks!
If you liked this, Cool Runnings next is a must!! John Candy is awesome in it!!

Yes!
Oh, definitely! How do we make that happen? 😅
The NFL record for longest field goal is 66 yards, set just this season by Justin Tucker (Ravens).
Nice pull👍
We can never forget Tom Dempsey of the New Orleans Saints who kicked a 63 yard field goal in 1970 with a club foot. He was born with no toes on his kicking foot and wore an Orthopedic shoe while playing, along with a pronounced limp. He held the longest field goal record of 63 yards for 43 years until his record was passed by Matt Prater of the Broncos in 2013.
At the point this was made the record was 63, and I think only two people had done it.
novak still the best
@@Penitent_Intent i would argue for adam vinatieri.
If you wanna see an even younger Keanu then watch Point Break. He plays an ex college quarterback turned FBI agent. Movie also stars Patrick Swayze.
Or, the original title, "Fast & Furious 0.5." :)
Actually, my favorite two tOSU quarterbacks are Shane Falco and Johnny Utah.
Good call.
Watched Point Break again recently...wasn’t as good as I remembered, sadly...pretty thin on character development etc. Loved it as a kid, mind!
Go younger! Try the 1986 remake of Babes in Toyland!
Also, pretty sure this is DC not state.

This is one of my, "I want to watch a movie but I don't know what to watch" choices. I love it.
Do beer leagues count? Or is that part of the glory days?
@@prollins6443 they absolutely count! 😎 but most of us ballers play better hungover lol

@@w41duvernay Football is probably more popular than you think in Canada, their is the CFL and a lot of toronto residents root for the Bills. Its not anywhere near the U.S obviously but every highschool has a football team and a lot of people watch NFL
The NFL record is 66 yards, kicked by my teams kicker Justin Tucker of the Baltimore Ravens,...speaking of Baltimore this movie was filmed there, and football scenes were filmed at M&T Bank Stadium where the Ravens play.
but when this was filmed the 65 yarder wouldve been the record.
@@markmac2206 you do understand it's fictional right.
What I like about the Baltimore connection is like you said it was filmed at Ravens stadium with a quarterback named Falco and later on the Balimore Ravens had a quarterback named FLACCO.
@@brettharlow7010 obviously i do.
😲
That's awesome!
It was actually the QB they got out of prison, he had been the starter at Tennessee.

If you like this, you'll like Major League. Kind of the same thing, but Baseball.

I'd much rather have seen the movie Keanu actually signed on to do. It wasn't... this. And it certainly wasn't a celebration of scabs crossing picket lines.
This one is one of my favorites. I also really liked Necessary Roughness.
You said you might watch "Glory" this month?? if you do, I hope it's with your sister as well. You guys will love this movie👍👍👍
It's incredible when you stop and realize how many movies Gene Hackman has been in. The guy can play just about any role. Legend.
"What does read blitz mean?"
Blitz is when the defenders rush the QB to try to sack him or make him rush his throw.
I dig how you do the titles in the styles of the movies you're about to watch. That's pretty cool.
Shout-out to Cassie's editor, @PiB_Mike who is a talented genius. -Jon

So much fun. Fun movie, fun reaction.
By the way, the record field goal at the time was 63 yards, but now it's 66 (happened this season actually).
Lets not forget Jack Warden. His career spanned 50 years - this was his last movie I believe.
Cassie saw Jack Warden before in "12 Angry Men" - the juror who wanted to wrap things up quickly to get to thy e ballgame.

Its a dance everyone can do, regardless of age, size, gender or how much you had to drink...up to a point. Lol
