- Yes, I do have a Facebook account, but I only post my videos. I stopped using Twitter about eight years ago, I rarely these days post to Instant gram and Tick Tock is the sound a grandfather clock makes in my world. Why do people use these modern evils?

Great show this morning Richard regarding social media etc it brings to mind an old saying that reads true [Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see]
Right on Richard Vobes....me...not on social media of any sort....much to the AMAZEMENT of my friends...and because I am 74 years old their conclusion is that I am 'past it'....on the contrary....I am more 'with it' than most of 'em. I lead a very active and self-fullfilling life and like you and fortunately, I enjoy my own company....(and 'Netflix' now and then, lol)...much love and hugs to you from Nova Scotia, Canada. By the way, I was brought up in Brighton and left for Canada when I was 30....many happy memories of cycling around the South Downs and dropping in to pubs for 'half a cider' and a packet of crisps (with the blue salt sashet). Seems that there is WAY too much traffic there now, but I am so glad I enjoyed it in those good old days!
“Electronic slabs of doom” - classic, love it. 😊. Agreed, not enough laughter out there. Not a fan of social media here, have never used it, never will (perhaps I should state that I do not believe my use of RUclips is technically social media, more of a replacement for TV). If that puts me in the Stone Age…so be it! I’ll be in good company. Cheers!

I use instagram but only to follow certain people I never post anything.As I don’t have Tv I watch RUclips as it has a wide variety of content such as travel,news etc.I don’t use Facebook either as I’m in constant contact with all my friends anyway if I had friends or family abroad then I probably would.I would much rather speak to friends & family directly.Great topic Richard 😀

I have to agree, I have FB and instagram but I don’t see most of my friends anymore everyone is online!
It drains your time and I no longer can read a book as my attention span has changed.
I watch You tube mainly now and try to stay away from any drama online.
Spot on about attention span. Made me realise I'm now the same. I'll have to try and correct my behaviour! I must get back into actually reading a book 😊

In regards to social media, I dropped Facebook years ago, it was so draining. But now I'm on Instagram, I've followed stuff on there like old pics of Marilyn Monroe and classic stars, a few bands that I like. But mostly, everything I like is long departed from the earth.
I agree about being physically with people, trouble is nowadays, I can't find many people I can relate to. People seem to be a bit beige...
I spend far too much time on RUclips, it can be addictive. Much better to get out and go walking in nature, I ought to join walking groups, but sometimes when you see them advertised, they are wearing masks, and so you know straight away you will have nothing in common with them, if you get my drift...
So true Richard alway like the video's I watch but the comments I don't bother with...

I only do facebook to keep in touch with some relatives who mostly post dogs past and present YARN. And of course many Railway mad bods. We have 2 friends met many times in real life who use it superbly at the moment. Chris is in America taking film of steam locomotives and his Girlfriend 3rd man on the footplate. Lovely couple. David and Lily.

Where do I begin. Instagram is a vanity platform. Facebook - you’ll have 200 maybe 300 ‘friends’ yet no one asks you how you are, pass them in street they look the other way. The only thing FB is good for is groups, events. Other than that it’s rubbish. I agree with you though Richard.
Social media ( twitter in the main )is to keep people arguing along the lines of left vs right , a construct to avoid the notion , it might be about top vs bottom

I could not agree more. I love RUclips and Whatsaapp, which allows worldwide free phone calls, documents, photos, texts etc. I believe these social media
Not only soap operas, Richard - I caught some Zoe Ball on Radio 2 recently - her innane commentary between the music was hugely peppered with woke propaganda.
Her dad got fired from the BBC for disagreeing with the new Messiah Attenborough on climate change, along with Dr David Bellamy, obviously she is keen to keep her job.
Can’t listen to her inane babble!!
I only use You Tube. Never been on any other social media. I find vlogs like yourself educational, and enjoyable. I don’t need Face Book or Twitter.
Richard, I began using social media a few years ago when Covid started and we were forced to stay at home. I came across your channel while trawling through you tube to find something interesting to watch. I also found various groups set up by old school friends and people with similar interest to mine.
Many of these groups seem to relatively inactive these days. I certainly have no interest in seeing photographs of what someone's wife has cooked for his dinner.
Your own channel has changed a lot. No longer the short 10 minute video of some local walk. The border walk is no more. Your video's are now longer. I used to log on each morning, read my emails & check bank statements etc and watch your short video. If time is pressing I sometimes just skim through the longer video's. I never watched the old Vobes show although I have watched a few of your Chin Wags. Again rather too long sometimes to watch in full.
Sorry that I have not been on any of your recent walks. Always seem to clash with something. If you plan to continue them through the winter months may catch up with you and Julia again.

Do you believe Coronavirus is deadly? You seem to suggest it's not. If you have a RUclips channel then you should accept that people will disagree with your opinion.
Respectfully, Richard has said several times that he does understand and appreciate others have opinions different from his. I think most of us wish that we could discuss different opinions calmly and rationally rather than in a cloud of hate that seems so prevalent in our societies these days. I hope you have a fantastic day.
We have certainly been conditioned to admire Obama and hate Trump yet if you compare what they did Trump was the better President.
I don't blame you, Twitter is really toxic!! RUclips is relatively safe to use, I feel better for it not using it myself, I suspect you will too.
.... followers are basically pretty LONELY people.
