Safely navigating the marsh and locating biting fish in the first place are the two most important things I have to teach you. Learn them both and more inside Inshore Fishing 101: www.lafishblog.com/if101/

Really enjoy the process you’re showing of trying to find fish. I would much rather do that with no one around then sit crammed up next to 100 boats catching!! Good one man!!

Early 2000's, Before Katrina We Caught "Huge" Specks From Boh Brothers All The Way Into The Industrial Canal, Especially By The Bulk Plant. Live Shrimp Or Croakers With a 1/8 Weight Or Free Lined And They Hit You Like a Freight Train, Treble Hook Was The Ticket 💪 With The Wall In Place, I Wish They'd Remove The Rock Damn And Let It Like It Was, Salted-Up...Thanks For Sharing Your Knowledge With Us 🎣👍😎

Those were the good ol' days. But I think they could come back. I'll explain:
The closing of the MRGO simultaneously happened with record flooding from the Mississippi River. In all actuality, you should consider *thanking* the Rock Dam because during the Freshening it kept all that river water from coming up the MRGO and ruining the great fishing we had left at The Wall, rocks, Martello Castle, Doulut's, Jahncke's Ditch and many other fishing spots. The Rock Dam did not affect salinity nearly as much as 10 years of record flooding across the North American continent, but the Rock Dam gets the blame for what happened to the great fishing.
If you want more information, I wrote an entire article about it here: www.lafishblog.com/freshening/
After that, I think the fishing could come back because the River is behaving itself. We have entered what I call a "Saltening". More about that here: www.lafishblog.com/saltening/
I believe that the fact of the matter is that during those "good ol' days" in the 1990s and 2000s we were in the midst of a Saltening. That was when we saw state records hitting the dock and much more. The article I wrote linked above explains more.
*Thank you* for sharing your experiences! I always love hearing how things used to be (because they were better, but I do think the fishing is turning around for the better). Also, thank you for watching!

@@LAFishBlog I use to tear up the trout at night back then on rattle traps even the hole in the wall at the flood gates after Katrina When the mosquitos got to bad we would fish the lights outside the Energy plant But i loved the flood gates at night

@@LAFishBlogI think you are spot on. I also think these natural phenomenon also pushed WLF to improperly alter creel and size limits along with imposing a moratorium on flounder. Seems like by the time all their changes were enacted, the system was already in full recovery. Anyway, we still have a great fishery and we still can fill the freezer better than any other state. I just can't wait to see double digit size trout being caught again some day. Those were some exciting times.

13:43 that’s why I leave my PFD on. Even if it looks dumb, and a little more inconvenient. At least it will give you a little more time to get back to boat or shore

Devin i like your thoughts about falling in and having to make a Long run back in cold temps, i have never heard anyone else mention that, I have considered that in the past and think i will start bringing some dry clothes just in case, a small dry bag wud work great.
I like the new vids, but you dont seem as jovial as in the past, i hope you still enjoy fishing.

Yeah, you should definitely be prepared on the water. Great call, John. Thank you.
After that, I cannot even begin to imagine how you can watch my content and come to the conclusion "wow, he must not like fishing". I own a trademarked company called "Louisiana Fishing Blog". c'mon guy
Yeah, the reason woke up at 2am to go fish Venice all day in the rain, film it, then sit in traffic for 3.5 hours on the way home is because I hate fishing. Or that other time I drove to the Capitol to fight for water access, or for conservation, without getting paid a single penny. Yeah, that was because I hate fishing.
Or like last week when I drove to Dularge to go fish speckled trout, went home to Slidell, recocked the cameras and did it again in Venice, yeah that's because I hate fishing. The whole time I was like "CATCHING ALL THOSE SPECKLED TROUT WAS NOT WORTH IT AT ALL!! I HATE FISHING!!!"
What egg nog are you drinking lol

Whatever microphone you're using to be able to be heard so clearly while running 40mph is impressive.

I'm sitting down behind a console with a heavy jacket on. That mic would not sound that good in a bay boat.

Before Katrina, we used to fish right inside the locks and catch all kinds of different species drum plenty of white trout flounder. That was the good old days not sure how it is now.

I remember those reports from the RodnReel days.
I think the Freshening had something to do with that. I detailed what happened here: www.lafishblog.com/freshening/
But the Saltening could bring it back! I explain what that is here: www.lafishblog.com/saltening/
      Thank you for watching!

Just wondering I bought a new tracker 195 Twx, what speed are you getting out of your boat?

    • @LAFishBlog
      @LAFishBlog  10 дней назад +1

Depends. 55mph. Fastest was 62. I suggest going to Bass Boat Central if you're looking for more information.
