- The fabulous Planxty were an Irish folk music band formed in 1972. A multi -talented, multi -instrumental quartet they blazed a trail for Irish folk music,popularizing and transforming this genre across the world. This fabulous recording of 1980 is especially appealing as it is a cowboy song....a real rarity for Irish folk bands. What a terrific performance from the living legend that is the great Christy Moore. This video performance is for educational purposes and social commentary only. I lived in Dublin most of the 70’s, I got to see all the greats of Irish music.
Love that song ...Christy & Planxty were a brilliant band.

The song was actually written by an American, Norman Blake, but Planxty absolutely make it sound Irish with this arrangement. Planxty were a fantastic group that never made a bad record. Check them all out!

I've heard plenty of 'Country and Irish' songs in the Showband style that are just bloody awful - this is an absolute treasure from Planxty. Cowboy ballads and irish trad can work together if their played right!
