    what could go wrong with the expansion valve. Seems pretty mechanical like not many moving parts. Can it not be cleaned? and what were the symptoms? I think mine is the control valve

      expansion valves vary refrigerant flow based on suction line temperature. Usually a pressure sensitive gas causes the valve to operate. The gas can leak out and the metering valve can get stuck

    I installed my expansion valve today and followed the video exactly how you did it. I have a leak from the small hose! Changed the o rings and still nothing! Idk what it could be

      you can make up a good leak check solution by mixing some dishwashing soup and water together and spraying it on the leak to see where it is coming from.

    I have a 2016 Nissan Altima base model and the air is barely blowing cool just enough and it’s been real hot lately where I’m at and it’s starting to blow warmer when idle but it seems like when the temp isn’t that high it can blow colder for some reason, added a can of Freon and the gage still is in the red. My question is should I replace this part and see if it works?

      If you have automatic A/C then you may have a compressor control valve, if so I would replace that first or even replace both the CCV and the expansion valve. I have a video on the compressor control valve that will help you figure out if you have one.

      @@737mechanic Hi, I have the SR model and I have the same issue. I came to find out that the SR model does not have a compressor control valve. Will changing the expansion valve fix it ? or if the SR model does not have the compressor control valve what part can I change to fix it?

      @@oscarleyva5921 First you need to make sure the compressor clutch is coming on and staying engaged. if it is then the expansion valve may fix it. If it isn't coming on then the problem is not the expansion valve.

      Guys, Nissan Sentra 2014 here, and I’m having the same exact issue. My car’s AC could blow mildly cold if it’s cooler outside like in mid 70’s, once the weather gets past 79F, the AC can’t blow cold, and it blows hot when idling. However, if I start driving fast, it could start blowing cool-ish. I brought it to the dealership and they recharged the AC, and did other stuff but couldn’t fix the problem and charged me $900
      In the winter, it does the same - can’t blow hot air.

    The rubber sleeve/enclosure that the valve sits in is giving me fits. How critical is it?
    And where would one get the universal lubricant for AC applcation?

      Just try to push the rubber out of the way, that is what seals off the inside of the car from the outside. You can use some PAG oil for the compressor if you don't want to buy the universal lubricant.

    Why one is more likely to fail first? The TXV or the Compressor?

      The #1 item is the Control valve which is on some compressors, then the expansion valve. The compressors themselves are usually fine.

    My ac pressures indicate 70psi cold side and 200 psi high side. The ac does not blow as cold….

      70 is way too high. If you have a compressor control valve I would change that first then the expansion valve second.

    The problem with do-it-yourself people if you're not a mechanic you don't have access to a good set of gauges and an AC reclaimer to suck the freon out if you're using one of those cans with the low side gauge from let's say Advance Auto Parts you cannot properly diagnosed without a high side reading

      Those cans cause more problems than they fix. R-134a systems should be charged by weight, not pressure.

      @@adambarney1137 like I said, those cans cause more problems than they fix. R-134a systems are much more sensitive to pressure variations than the old R-12 systems. Any AC guy will tell you not to try to charge by pressure because you'll never get it right. Newer systems aren't meant to be topped off. The only way to get an accurate charge is to use a scale and measure by weight into an empty and vacuumed system. You can try it with the cans by using a refrigerant scale, but it's better to use a tank because it would be hard to keep a little can steady on a scale with a hose attached to it. There's no way to calculate how much you have put in with the little cans using those cheap kits or even with a manifold guage set. If you're going to work on your AC then get your Section 609 certification so you can buy 30lb tanks of refrigerant, get a refrigerant scale, and do it properly so you don't cause more damage to your system.

      The can has the net wt on it., get a smaller scale an do the math....
      The real issue is you should pull a vacuum before adding refrigerant to remove moisture

      Some sentras you get from underneath the passenger side of the dash. Not sure about that one.

    Hello, thank you for your time and video. I'm stu.ped on a situation I'd love to hear your opinion on please. I have a 2016 Nissan Altima with 60k. Its blowing cool but not cold. With 80 degree weather my low side is 55 psi and my high side is 150 psi. I'd like to think it was the compressor but with just 60k I'm stumped. Would you please give me your recommendation or what you might do in this situation? Thank you again so much!

      Your compressor is fine. I'm a little perplexed at while he's replacing this particular valve. The valve that usually goes bad is the AC electronic control valve which is located in the compressor itself. You can get the part for anywhere from $50 to $100 depending where you get it from. Just have someone evacuate your system, pop that new valve in after they remove the old one on the compressor and you should have good, cold air conditioning again

      I also have a 2016 altima same exact issue as Edward Thayer. The compressor on My car does not have the control valve on the compressor that I have seen to be the issue on all the other videos. I ha e been instructed to replace the expansion valve will. E doing that soon

      You pull a vacuum on the system so there is no air or moisture in it. Then you charge it with refridgerant.

    I put the o rings but the line keeps snapping off when I try to fill it with refrigerant

      @@737mechanic I ended up replacing that expansion valve. For a minute it was blowing cold air only on the passenger side. Then it went back to blowing warm air. I replace the cabin air filter but still the same. Any tips?

      @@oliverperez3 Believe it or not most the time when it blows cold only on one side it is simply low on refrigerant, make sure the refrigerant is right.

      @@737mechanic yes the meter on the ac pro pointed on green later on it was on yellow. I took some out and added it until it hit green again

    how did you know the valve was bad? guess? or did you check the pressures?

      The high side pressure wouldn't come up but the low side looked ok. I figured as cheap as the expansion valve is and it being a high failure item it was worth a try.

      You use a set of gauges and a recovery machine.
