Solo Hiking One of Tasmania's Best Hiking Trails - Walls of Jerusalem

- In late February I solo hiked what is considered one of Tasmania's best hiking trails. The Walls of Jerusalem is a multi day hiking trail which is generally advised to be completed over three or more days. I completed the trail over the course of two days and stayed at Dixon's Kingdom Campground for the night.
On the first day I left the Walls of Jerusalem carpark before sunrise and made my way along the trail. I summited The Temple, King Solomon's Throne & David's Peak before making my way to Dixon's. The following morning I summited Mount Jerusalem and went on to complete the circuit section. In total the hike was 37.7km 1484m in elevation gain.

Hope you all enjoyed this one, still pinching myself that I was fortunate enough to see a platypus up that close! As I pointed out in the end of the vid this was actually one of two hikes that I did during this trip to Tassie. Next upload should be in 1-2 weeks where I hike the Freycinet Circuit - My expectations weren't too high for this but boy was I wrong. This one was easily right up there with some of the best hiking I've done, so I can't wait to show it off and start the edit. Thanks again to all of you for watching
Nice one Josh, I did an overnighter into WoJ March 2021. Arrived WILD DOG Camp bout 6pm Twas near full on platforms, ( some designated for Tours groups ) Some Possums Savaged several of us campers thru the night. Clawed & ripped my tent wall obviously smelling food. Beaten back with my shoe to curtail his persistence, Even someone’s food bag dangling off a tree branch. Pesky Lil creatures. Highly Recommend this hike !

Couldn’t believe it myself and still can’t. I didn’t expect to ever see one in the wild, let alone one that close. Maybe one day you’ll get the stroke of luck that I did!
Did that hike back around 6/7 years ago, still rank it as the no 1 hike I have ever done. Next time I am in Tassie will be hopefully doing it again.

I absolutely loved this one. Brought back so many memories of February 2020 when we did 5 nights at the Walls and surrounds. You video was quiet, respectful of the bush and it was just a delight to go with you. What a tremendous find - a platypus. So special.

I enjoyed your video Josh and also agree with your comments at the end. I love the Walls of Jerusalem and usually walk in from Lake Ada via Lake Fanny as it is a lot closer to Hobart.

Take you to solitary hut and some of the other huts that not even other locals know about .....I have a mate in pws who sent me updated hut and track notes in 2020 there's another 3 special huts in that area....trapper hut was the one at the start everyone knows that one lol great video as always

I agree with you that hiking in overgrown bush is a hassle... must be full of spider webs too...
The amount of spider webs nearly drove me insane!
Mate, I love lapping up any content about my own backyard, but your stuff absolutely tops it and captures the feeling of Waldeinsamkeit and the Tassie wilderness. Keep it up. Gotta recommend Maria Island (at least 4-5 days) as well. Easier than many of the Tassie hikes you've done but breathtaking nonetheless.

Didn't know about a platypus at Dixons. Lucky you to get so close. Such a narrow creek for it. I was lucky to spot one at Mole Creek before heading into WoJ.
I was under the assumption that they were found in much larger bodies of water so I could hardly believe it. Tassie must be the place for it!
Another excellent video, that circuit section did not look like fun.
Definitely wasn’t one of the highlights. Perhaps it wouldn’t have been so bad though if I wasn’t racing the clock to make it to the next trail head in time
Great video, I've been in Tassy for 16 years now, still love the forests. One thing about Tassy, always be prepared for the cold. Weather can and does change very quickly. It is not unusual to get snow mid summer in the high lands. I all works on wind direction and speed. If you get a southerly it will be cold regardless.
Absolutely, I always pack warm clothing with me when I head to Tassie! Kind of glad I’ve snagged decent weather each time I’ve been but also not. I’ve only seen snow once before so would be a ripper experience if it were to happen, albeit a cold one.
@@JoshCarrHikes yeah snow is a hard one to predict, lots of variables. Wind direction, wind speed, moisture content etc. And it will also snow on some mountains and not others. Cradle mountain is a top spot to be when its snowing, unless you are in a tent. But you also get times when you can't get in or out, unless you have a 4wd with chains.
Oh brother get the Nemo airpins lol there best oh and a Nemo airpad no blowing into pad lol and the curriwongs sound fkn great love em we have same idea pack the pluggers boys trust us lol

Great work matey. Heading there in April for the Autumn colour. Was going to do the loop but after seeing your vid will just do a day walk to balls lake hut and back to Dixon. Going to spend 4 days in there as we want sunrise and Astro shots and may not get the conditions over a shorter stay.
Get yourself into the Western Arthurs, now there is a challenge.
That’ll be awesome, enjoy it mate! Yeah I personally wouldn’t go any further than Lake Ball Hut, there’s really not much to see after that. I’d originally planned to set up camp there but so glad I didn’t.
Western Arthur’s is on the list but might be a while until I get to that one. I rekon I’ll drag a mate along for that one too as I’ve heard it can be pretty sketchy
Josh where do you source your music from? I notice it is about the only thing you don’t list. I understand if you don’t wish to reveal as finding the right tune is challenging and a lot of work.

you should figure what the name of the at plateau looking mountain is at 407 the long skinny looking stump in the background looks like its higher than anything around it

Haha sounds like we’re in a similar boat. No idea to be honest, I’ve ripped all the tags off so can’t tell what it is anymore. It was one that has a removable zipper jumper in it if that helps?

Absolutely loved them hey, will definitely be getting more! Tried a couple different ones on the Freycinet hike but Pesto topped it for me
@@JoshCarrHikes yuppo, creamy vegetable pasta and vegetable laksa are the surpringly awesome ones, then chilli beef as well. Great portion size as well, feels like two extra mouthfuls than a regular freeze-dried.
About to fly down to do this walk and encouraged to go solo, where did you camp at freycinetNP?

Hey Josh I’m about to do this hike tomorrow. I’m a bit shocked at the national park entry pass being $80. For me that’s 3 days worth of hiking which is very steep. Is there any way around this ?
It is steep if you’re only going for a short period. Personally I did the 2 year pass for unlimited access to any National park in Tas for $115. You can choose individual national parks though, which just having a look now, would set you back $46. Might be the cheapest option for you if you’re just doing the WOJ?

Cheers Craig. I was actually just filling my water bladder up and filtering it through the Katadyn. Took me a while because the filter needed cleaning so I was sitting there pretty quietly for 5-10 minutes. Heard this splash and then sure enough a platypus popped out!
