The Steelers became my favorite team for two reasons: They had, what I thought were, the coolest uniforms in the NFL (this was 1971 and I was eight years old). They also drafted a Black quarterback in 1972, which, back then, was a _HUGE_ deal and not just to me. As a fan of the Dallas Cowboys since 1970, I was a little kid just starting to understand the game. The Pittsburgh Steelers of the 70s were a slow rise then all of a sudden Pittsburgh came from nowhere, led by its defense. You did not want to get 2nd or 3rd in long on the early 1970s Pittsburgh Steelers. Not to mention that there wasn't really the passing game like we have now. The first team to win 4 Super Bowls, nobody thought anyone would pass Pittsburgh. I may not be a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, but I'm a football fan first. And there comes a time when you have to recognize greatness. For anyone who plays, even if they didn't play for your team.
