      @@FuzzyOnTheDetails I've already shared your videos with people today. It's impressive how well Forbeck and company captured Marvel as a TTRPG. It's easy to recommend the game itself. Resources like yours are equally easy to recommend to bring in the uninitiated.

    Yeah after making a few characters it makes so much more sense to do abilities last, I wonder why they went the route they did?

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  6 месяцев назад

      If I had to guess, I'd say they went that way as a default because Ability Scores tend to be done before Feats/Skills in D&D, and there was a conscious decision during the design process to make the game comfortable for those coming from D&D (happened to just re-listen to an old interview with Matt Forbeck where he mentioned this). Can't argue with that approach! Whatever helps the game catch on so we can have new supplements and adventures for years to come :-).
      Thanks for the comment!

    I like the Rank system in this game the players can take the character how they are or rank down or up character to . Nightcrawler ishould have Wallcrawling , Teleporting other i think it was i forget the 3rd one . I think wallcrawling should be a everybody power night just spider Man crawls on walls . When the X Men book comes out Juliblee is on the cover she should be in the book you could see how close you are to her profile . In the old Faserip game some of the players i played with would make new characters before they was added to the game system 2 players in the group was Bishop fans . The one player made him to Op the other person made him more like his comic book this was before the cartoon came out .

      They at least gave Nightcrawler the "sneaky" trait for his ability to blend into shadows, but they didn't give him ANY martial ability at all, despite all the swordplay. I mean, the guy idolizes Errol Flynn - let him use a sword! :-)

    Fuzzy, have you considered putting your game online amen and if you do it in this setting?

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  6 месяцев назад +3

      Hey, Joseph! That's a great question - I have definitely considered it, and I even recorded one session as a test run, but it was a bit of an editing nightmare since I didn't have a way to record everyone's voices on a separate channel (I know that's possible with, say, a paid Zoom account, but that's an extra expense and the channel is a long way from being monetized :-). I've never run or been involved in an actual play before, and none of my players have either, so I'm sure there will be a learning curve.
      I'm also not sure what the overall interest level would be - I think you're the first I can recall bringing it up. Anyone else interested? Leave a thumbs up on this comment if you are!
      If I did do one, it would definitely be with my own spin on it. I'd have to have a section at the end, or in between sessions, where I dig into the decision making or the behind the screens stuff that's going on (not spoiling anything in the future of course). I tend to do that with some of my players anyway, and they're usually fun conversations.

      @@FuzzyOnTheDetails what VTT platform are you using at the moment?
      And what software are you editing with?

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  6 месяцев назад

      @@josephmoon6261 I record with OBS and edit with DaVinci. We use discord for video/voice and use foundry for a VTT. We've all got Demiplane up when we play, too.
      We tried roll20 for our first game but did not have a good experience. So many technical issues. I had left roll20 for Foundry years ago for my Pathfinder campaign, so I'm familiar with Foundry and its already paid for. I love it for playing Marvel. Wish the deal with Roll20 wasn't exclusive.

    I've started poking around at this... my character concept is a Damage Control agent who's secretly a Skrull reporting to SHIELD. The only thing keeping me from making a Rank 2 Alien: Skrull is that the Shape-shift power requires Rank 3. What would be a suitable tweak for a Rank 2 Skrull?

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  4 месяца назад

      Fear not, this is actually pretty easy to do by the books! If you have Demiplane, it really helps guide you, because it tracks the powers you must take to "unlock" the Skrull origin.
      At Rank 2, you can take Slip Free, Disguise, Extended Reach 1 and Flexible Bones 1 without any issue. These are 4 of the 5 mandatory powers (listed at the end of the "Alien: Skrull" Origin).
      To get Shapeshift, use one of your Traits to take Surprising Power, and grab Shapeshift with that.
      I'd use the second trait to take the extra Occupation that the Skrull in the book has (so you could take Military and Outsider, or if you're secretly reporting into SHIELD, Spy and Outsider), and for the 4 extra powers, I might sink 2 into ability scores and 2 into the Ranged Weapons, as there would likely be an expectation a Damage Control agent would have firearms skills. But no reason you couldn't just put them all into extra powers and just play the character a younger/smaller/weaker than average Skrull.
      That means you wouldn't have the Extended Reach 2, Flexible Bones 2, Flexible Fingers, Reverse Punch, Rubberneck or Stilt Steps powers that the Skrull in the CRB has, but honestly, the MCU Skrulls don't have a lot of those Mr. Fantastic level of Plasticity Powers anyway.
      This sounds like a great concept, I hope you have fun with it!

    • @niikokun5326
      @niikokun5326 4 месяца назад +1

      @@FuzzyOnTheDetails The Surprising Power Trait I'll have to look at, but it sounds perfect if you can ignore Rank requirements! As for the extra occupation, I was actually thinking Engineer to couple with Outsider. I don't feel Spy is necessary, since my natural Skrull abilities give me a talent for it already, and Engineer'd give me a suitable skill set as a Damage Control plant.
      I'm sure I'll have fun, thanks for the help!

    One question I have: Does taking a lower rank power to reach a higher rank of that same power still take up a power point? For example, Mighty 1 to Mighty 2 uses 2 power points, or does it refund a power point when you go from 1 to 2, as if you selected only 1 power?

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  5 месяцев назад +1

      It takes an additional power slot. So if you took Mighty 1 at Rank 1 and then leveled up to to Rank 2, you wouldn’t automatically get Mighty 2, you’d have to make an investment to get stronger.

    • @EmeraldTG
      @EmeraldTG 5 месяцев назад +1

      @FuzzyOnTheDetails so if I'm building a Rank 5 character, and I wanted Mighty 4, I'd have to spend 4 of my 25 power points on Mighty 1-4? Sorry I'm new to character building.
      For context: I'm building Johnny Blaze Ghost Rider using Robbie Reyes as a template.

    its really annoying that you need to buy digital versions of the books just to use the character creator, especially if you already have hardback editions.

    • @FuzzyOnTheDetails
      @FuzzyOnTheDetails  15 дней назад

      I answered this on the Getting Schooled comment, but wanted to repeat it here for visibility!
      I've given this some thought, but I don't see how it is feasible.
      Demiplane is a separate company. If people who bought the hardcover could register it to avoid "rebuying" it on Demiplane, that means no revenue going into the company, and no way to pay the devs, and, ultimately, no character creator anymore. Even if it was a discount, why would one company give a discount for money given to a different company? I don't think I've ever seen that model work before, with two companies involved. If I'm missing something, I'd be really interested in hearing about it!!
      I know there's a perception that buying the product on Demiplane is like buying the book twice, but, to me, it doesn't feel that way at all.
      1) With Demiplane, I can share the content with several groups of people I play with. Sometimes gaming groups share the costs, so instead of 1 person buying a 50 dollar book, 5 people chip in 10 bucks, and they can all access the book at the same time. That obviously can't be done with a hardcover.
      I can't stress this enough - In my experience, the ability to do this absolutely turns people who are casually interested in the game into fans. It is so easy to get started playing, and SO easy for me to run games using it. That's why I put this as my #1.
      2) Demiplane takes a compendium approach, meaning all the books are cross-referenced with hyperlinks, easy searchable, and of course, instantly updated not only with errata but with any free content they can get their hands on.
      3) Obviously, the character builder, which is extremely high quality. I use it as much as a toy as a game aid. I'm a little... uh... fanatic about this game, sure, but it is legit fun jto me ust making characters with that tool.
      Now, for ME (and obviously this is only a personal opinion, and not one I would ever try to force on anyone), all of the above is worth the purchase price.
      But I can definitely empathize with those who feel differently.
      I'm not exactly sure what the future holds with Roll20 and Demiplane merging, but I have to imagine that those two companies coming together will mean they can offer the VTT experience PLUS the character creation and compendium approach all together at a much reduced price. And that might make it more palatable for some. We'll see!
