The Andante Placido movement makes me weep by how beautiful and picturesque it is

It’s so interesting to see how much more effective Liszt’s pianism became over the years, and in fact after he retired as a concert pianist. And yet, still every account of his playing from that era was that it was absolutely electrifying. Just imagine what his audiences must have thought if they heard him play his later versions of his pieces!

it does make me wonder whether he was really able to render these earlier pieces to a level that others never have been able to..

I like the Napoli chord(Dflat majorc minor)that forshadows the 2nd movement of Eine Faustsymphonie and Tasso.

11:13 that 10th with the B and the D# with the trill inside it seems completely evil at first glance... but can be done with the thumb on the C#. So typical Liszt.. games of chess with fingering...

The First one could easily be one of Brahms hungarian folk dances

I think the last piece of this version is more difficult than Tarantella..

quite a few of his earlier versions were more difficult than the later so it does seem quite likely.

    What a hideous, vulgar piece

He thought so too, his s162 revised version was much better

Tcha! It was very probably not so under Liszt's hands.
