@kenfo0 Firstly I'd like to thank you for spending your time reading the comments that have been posted . To help you understand Why I put extra wheels on the front, It's because ,I can ,,,,,,,,I've always wanted too,,,,,,, and it's what they did during the war for soft or muddy ground conditions ..... Hope this answers your questions!!!!!!
Here in Detroit, Michigan I had family members working on production lines building these trucks. My Grandfather drove them and was part of the "Red Ball Express" He drove a truck in 5 theaters of war, including the battle of the bulge.
Now that is a piece of history and also I like it when people keep them running and fully functional for everyday use. Also i like how the front looks probably used for extra traction in the mud or very loose sand. Bet you guys get looked at all the time driving down the road. Hope to find my own military play toy and rebuild it for a true piece of history.
I think it looks pretty cool. Might be better with narrower axles, or wider fenders. But I remember seeing photos of military trucks at Aberdeen proving grounds, with dual front wheels. Also different traction devices for the rears, for mobility testing. The width would be illegal on the highways here.
@nicholassmth1 Thanks for the comments,I've got 3 GMC's and they are all great piece's of History It was just nice to put the extra front wheels on and take it for a spin...Very different from the normal drive!!!
@@GH-oi2jf we have one at the sail plane flight club, we use it to carry the winch to get the sail planes airborne ... it's all original except for a red paint ( on top of the original US army green) ... it used to be a fire truck conversion at some point ... being a jeep addict, I used to crawl under it and enjoy those beefy Rockwell axles ... I always wondered why the front axle has the same width like the rear ones ... now I know why
Oh boy, did these trucks have power steering ? If not, driving with duals on the front is just dangerous ! We have front axle duals on our tractor, which makes it a bitch to steer on the pavement despite the power steering !
They put dual front wheels on this trucks in WW2. I have seen them on U-Tube. I think the G.I's put duels on this trucks for traction on muddy roads. I actually think they look pretty cool. I made a Tamiya model like this and put dual wheels on it.
@kenfo0 Your comments about the "truck look half retarded" might have fueled my comments, if you were to have read the other comment that people have posted you might have realised what the wheels were used for !!!
My favorite war music. Love it!!!.. And the GMC U.S truck with the dual front wheels.
front axle with four wheels.
Fantastic!

the Great Escape theme ! nice touch

Great.. now you made me want to watch The Great Escape.
looks great !must be hell to turn
This option was used to drive thru sand or snow. Very effective in spite of a lot of strain on steering wheel and axle.
the theme from my favorite movie :) thank you!

i like how that beast literally takes up half the street
Back when we made things right. Beautiful!
love the truck

The theme from The Great Escape. Steve McQueen all the way!
@SFINX01 Thanks for the comment, "Extreme " If you've ever driven one on the road with twins on the front you'll understand !!!
@kenfo0
Thanks for the comments ,they obviously reflect your lack of understanding on WWII US Military Vehicles..........
Very cool, just like the original!
All the wheels are interchangeable, so I just used 2 spare wheels I had and they bolted straight on.

Now I m not sure if it not from The Longest Day , they sound so simular
It is from the Longest Day.
Everything is original on the GMC apart from the paint ,canvas and Oils!!
i would, but it's a 1/2 ton suspension and they don't make 5x5.5 bolt pattern.
Ur driving in the wrong side of the road. That's very dangerous! (LOL) Nice truck!!
How is the steering..with duals fitted up front?
once you get moving, it's not bad to drive without it. i have a truck with 295/50's and i can move them sitting still.
6.50-16 duals with a 3 inch space inbetween is another 4 to 5 inch wider than a 295 tire...
That thing is sick! I assume it runs the old 302?
overall yes, but the surface in contact with the ground is the same.
отличная техника!
I want to see it off-roading !
if your in england because thats the only place that drives on the left but why do you have a us truck with us markings?
Why not , they are paying tribute to it's history
I think you should try swapping your 295's for duals first... ;-)
Thanks for the kind words,I love all the Military music ,checkout the "T55 Motorway"
Regards :)
was it ever built? I mean with the twin front wheel ?
Any of these trucks can be fitted with front duals. It is unusual to configure it that way for highway use.

what's the first song?
what size of PTO winch is that up front?
Its a ten thousand pound rated winch by Gar wood or Heil
hey this is music from "Stripes"
@thefarmfred1 5 tonne winch ...........

@@refealibazeta7886 just hit a berm along the road, and it slams the steering wheel out of your hand.
@stevechaplin and no power steering......
I swear to god I've seen this on the CCKW website.
You know, in all honesty, for this truck it makes sense... It just looks ridiculous.
During WW2 they put dual front wheels on this trucks. They show pics of them on muddy roads like the red ball express.
enter it in a monster truck rally
demain ,la grande évasion voila pourquoi nous creusont
