Wow I was not expecting Alice Longyu Gao to show up in this list. I've been following Alice for about 2 years her music is breath of fresh air creatively. I'm happy to see her get recognition like this
Saw maruja live, it was in a tiny venue but that just made it more chaotic! They played some new songs - and I can’t understate how big of a treat we are in for when they drop their album!
Even though Scaring the Hoes is an AOTY contender I'd have the DLC pack at #2 behind the absolutely mind blowing EP by Maruja. Can't wait for their debut.
maruja is the easy #1 for me, scaring the hoes dlc pack didnt do that much for me, especially compared to the album - kinda glad they were left off the final record. i agree with hemlocke springs in #2, just think 1 and 3 should be switched. all three are fantastic though
Literally so excited about that Alice Longyu Gao placement, that's definitely one of my favourite projects of the year as well. It's so chaotic and fun I can't imagine not loving it
I have had that Hemlocke Springs EP on REPEAT since it came out. Im so excited for more from her. Also, i think it's personally my favourite cover of the year.
I wouldn't say she's 'underground', just from a market that he doesn't really explore much (at least, in terms of making videos). Most people who are into the Korean music scene, including those who are just into kpop, know of her.
It is quite interesting that the Alice's Ep (one of my favorites of the year) has been shown as a "LP" and today I realized that it was an EP, either way, amazing work, she made an incredible EP and people must listen to it
honestly surprised you didn’t put heady metal by divorce on here. your giving them a shout on a track reviews video last year put me onto them and they’ve quickly become my favorite new indie band. their EP this year was amazing and my personal EP of the year. not sure if you’ve kept up with them since last year but you definitely should!
Nice! A bunch of EPs I'm not familiar with so I will have to go check them out. Here are my 15 favorite EPs of 2023. 1. Spiritbox - The Fear of Fear (post-metalcore/alternative metal) 2. Magdalena Bay - mini mix vol. 3 (synth-pop/indie psych) 3. Carathis - The Moonstone Temple (melodic black metal) 4. Dream Unending/Worm - Starpath (atmospheric death-doom/blackened death-doom) 5. The Callous Daoboys - God Smiles Upon The Callous Daoboys (mathcore/post-hardcore/pop punk/electronic) 6. Guitar Fight from Fooly Cooly - drought (emo/post-hardcore/noise rock) 7. Scowl - Psychic Dance Routine (hardcore punk/alternative rock) 8. TEETH - A Biblical Worship of Violence (metallic hardcore/grindcore/crust punk) 9. Woods Witch - Warmth and Comfort (atmospheric black metal/doom metal) 10. Hyperdontia - Deranged (death metal) 11. Karmanjakah - Ancient Skills (progressive metal/post-rock) 12. Better Lovers - God Made Me an Animal (metalcore/post-hardcore) 13. Beach House - Become (dream pop) 14. Carathis - The Haunting of Sablewood (melodic black metal) 15. Proper. - Part-Timer (emo/alternative rock/indie rock)
Anthony, my toddler is running around my house yelling “Fantano EPs” and demanding to rewatch the first 30 seconds or so of this video because the “widdle baby waybeeeee” bit is the funniest thing in the world to her. Anthony, I’m in a “widdle baby waybeeee” hell rn.
Melon talks about Dnb making a comeback with that Nia Archives' Ep and Pinkpantheress and I feel like he would've enjoyed NewJeans' Get Up EP, or maybe I'm wrong. Just wanna hear his thoughts considering how much praise it got this year.
Mettenarrative by Mette deserves a place here! Superb EP! I saw her open for Jessie Ware in London and I was instantly captivated by her commanding stage presence.
I expected but still am glad Alice Longyu Gao made it to #1. She reminds me of how Sawayama mixes metal into pop except in a hyperpop context along with punk and bubblegum pop.
Just listened to melons #1 EP and it’s insane. Not something I’d listen to, but the talent and skill that went into it is clearly shown. Actually a wild listen
I’m surprised “jazz is for ordinary people” by Berlioz isn’t on here. Also Today I Laid Down by bl4ck m4rket c4rt is a remarkable and incredibly sad EP that is a must listen for this year
The artist said it was an album it was only listen as a ep because of it being short. It was moved to an album on rym and wouldn't be surprised to see Anthony put it on his albums of the year.
Do it mate. She is sick. I personally like her hard jungle stuff the most, songs like off wit ya headz, baiana, 18 & over, and her burn dem bridges remix. Check her out! She is also a great singer and sings while she dj's @@sammo2560
Cool list - my #1 is Adjy who followed up their 90-minute concept album The Idyll Opus with a much more accessible EP, June Songs Vol. 1. Passionately performed midwest emo mixed with delicate indie-folk and Americana. It's a love-it-or-hate-it proposition, but I'm in the former camp!

Not having Hania Rani anywhere in top albums is an absolute shame for Melon
So fucking happy to see Alice here. I’ve been addicted to this EP all year.
I just listened for the first time and it is one of a kind. It's so so so good.
I tried it doesn’t seem to be for me but glad others enjoy it
That Alice EP has been on my constant rotation since you spoke about it earlier this year, so insanely good!
Magdalena Bay's Mini Mix Vol 3 deserves to be here
FR!! It was banger after banger!
Thanks for putting me on Maruja, absolutely quality stuff. Been bumping the ep since this video came out
NO MAG BAY :( actual snub. Super catchy pop bangers for those who haven't heard but a great list overall Fantwan!
Wow I was not expecting Alice Longyu Gao to show up in this list. I've been following Alice for about 2 years her music is breath of fresh air creatively. I'm happy to see her get recognition like this

So glad Maruja are mentioned!!! Definitely deserved!
they’re amazing!
Even though Scaring the Hoes is an AOTY contender I'd have the DLC pack at #2 behind the absolutely mind blowing EP by Maruja. Can't wait for their debut.
Maruja are so impressive. I hope their debut is just as good because that would be AOTY material
maruja is the easy #1 for me, scaring the hoes dlc pack didnt do that much for me, especially compared to the album - kinda glad they were left off the final record. i agree with hemlocke springs in #2, just think 1 and 3 should be switched. all three are fantastic though

Yukika's cover of Remember Summer Days is pure bliss
Mini Mix Vol. 3 by Magdalena Bay deserves a mention IMO. Great summery vibes throughout with great catchy melodies to boot !
Glad to see Maruja get some love. Had that ep on repeat all year
0:25 finally, someone who can explain what an EP is without diving into advanced music theory
Alice Longyu Gao is phenomenal, glad to see her at #1
EZ #1 for this year tbh
She’s easily the most inventive person working in pop rn. Been eating up everything she’s released since I first heard “She Abunai”
AND SHE'S AMAZING LIVE AS WELL!!!!!
@@brocli_supreme Her performance in Milwaukee was one of the best shows I've ever been to
hemlocke springs is so damn good let's go
Great EP list! Well deserved no.1 for ALG! Can't wait for the rest of list week!!
Haru Nemuri's INSAINT is absolutely my EP of the year and I'm really glad you included it :)
Maruja is incredible. This EP made it on my favorite list over some LPs.
i've been in love with the hemlocke springs ep ever since i heard it. so happy to see it getting some love.
enny's "we go again" was definitely a highlight ep for me. She shows so much amazing potential for her future projects.
Was looking for this comment
I have had that Hemlocke Springs EP on REPEAT since it came out. Im so excited for more from her.
Also, i think it's personally my favourite cover of the year.
ALG is amazing! Saw her in KC this year and she owned the stage despite being the only one up there.
YESSS THE MARUJA APPRECIATION! They’re amazing!
Great varied list. You're always delivering Anthony😊
MARUJA MENTIONED📣📣📣🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Cant wait for your favourite natural disasters list from this year
I’m so surprised Yukika made it on here LOL I thought she was so underground that even Anthony wouldn’t know her
Timeabout was on his fav EP list of 2021 I think
I wouldn't say she's 'underground', just from a market that he doesn't really explore much (at least, in terms of making videos). Most people who are into the Korean music scene, including those who are just into kpop, know of her.
I first discovered here through Fantano lol

yeah i agree! i think on spotify it's even listed as an LP
So hyped for the best albums of the year!
Spiritbox's EP was amazing:D
He doesn't like their sound
I didn't find it to be that remarkable, however the EP absolutely sees the band at their most confident with their sound, which is cool
surprised the dev lemons EP didn’t make it on here, that was so good
Just posted the same thing. This was my favorite. Dizzy vision is one of my songs of the year. Also my favorite album cover
Missing this is a crime, the EP is magical. I’m also upset he’s never said anything about Queef Jerky. They genuinely have AOTY for me, it was so good
I don’t respect her for being friends with that POS Nickisnotgreen
Spirit of the beehive! ❤
Anthony, BL4CK M4RKET C4RT not being on here is such a crime. I urge people to go listen to that album
today i laid down is stale and derivative ngl

Yesssss Maruja! Loved the ep, can’t wait for the eventual album.
Melon, how do you keep fumbling Fellow Traveler every single year? It would be kind of impressive if it weren't so sad.

Maruja deserves all the hype and more. Knocknerea is some of the most genre bending stuff I've heard all year, seriously sick.
I did not listen to a lot of music this year , Now that the lists are out I will surely try all of these
